The City of Jonesboro Main Street Advisory Board is excited to announce our 7th Annual Downtown Street Festival. As with years past, the festival will feature a wide array of different food truck options, street vendors, kids play areas and of course, “LIVE MUSIC!” This year we are excited to announce a special tribute to Earth, Wind & Fire. This is an event you do not want to miss. For entrance to the festival, there is a minimum charge of $5 in advance and $10 on the day of the event. CITY ANGELS: Saving the day for Jonesboro Seniors The Jonesboro City Angels were featured in an article written by Joy Hutcherson of the Atlanta Regional Commission. Derry Walker, Chief Code Enforcement Officer, formed this community service group to help with exterior maintenance for its senior residents. At the Jonesboro City Council Regular Meeting held on Monday, August 8, 2022, Mayor Day announced her official resignation effective Tuesday, August 16, 2022. At the Council meeting, Mayor Day who was first elected in 1996, made the following statement: “The City of Jonesboro has been a positive force in my life: thank you for the work, the opportunity, the chance to be creative and to feel a sense of accomplishment, not to mention the tears and the laughter along the way. Effective, Tuesday, August 16, 2022, at the close of business, I will resign as Mayor of Jonesboro, Georgia. I do this with a heavy heart and mixed feelings, but a surety that it is the best decision for my loved ones and for me, as I relocate to be nearer to my son and his family. Goodnight, City of Jonesboro, from your biggest fan!” During her tenure, Mayor Day has stayed active in the Georgia Municipal Association and participated in a GMA Roundtable concerning the need for increased interaction between municipalities and boards of education in Georgia. She has served as District Vice President and President for the Georgia Municipal Association. Mayor Day has been recognized by the Georgia Municipal Association with the Certificate of Achievement, the Certificate of Excellence, and the Certificate of Distinction. She served five terms as President of the Clayton County Municipal Association. Mayor Day has received many community accolades including Clayton County Chamber of Commerce Business Woman of the Year, Battalion Chief, State Fire Marshal Corps, Divine Faith Ministries Commitment to Excellence Award, Woodman of the World Community Service Award, and Grassroots Leadership Institute 2018 Inspiration Award. She was named a Living Legend by We Are Clayton Magazine in 2016. Under Mayor Day’s leadership, the City of Jonesboro was awarded the 2016 Development of Excellence, LCI Achievement Award from the Atlanta Regional Commission. Further, under her leadership, she has been a catalyst for the revitalization efforts of Jonesboro. As part of the celebratory events, Mayor Day was presented with the prestigious “key to the city!” Mayor Day, best wishes to you in your future endeavors. You served us well!

JONESBORO BEGINS FY’ 23 BUDGET
City Staff is gearing up to begin preparation for the FY’ 23 Budget. This year, City Staff is looking to hear from the community relative to budget priorities. It is important that citizens have confidence in our financial health and practices and be provided full access to all financial data. City staff will be host a budget process meeting on September 15th at the Police Department at 6pm.

The contest is open to all, businesses, families, clubs and organizations doing business in and around Clayton County. Contestants are encouraged to assist setting up their displays in downtown Jonesboro, to decorate downtown for the approaching Fall Season. Jesse Fuller Jesse Fuller was born in Jonesboro in 1895. He went on to be a homegrown blues legend and known for being a “One Man Band!” Go downtown to capture a picture in front of his mural on the side of Lister & Holt Offices.
