Inclusion story time

Monday 2 December – Saturday 7 December 10am

To tie in with International Day of People with Disability on Tuesday 3 December, City of Joondalup Libraries will be running story time sessions that celebrate and support people with disability. Join Inclusion story time at the libraries, featuring books that teach children about differences in a positive way.

International Volunteer Day

Thursday 5 December

There are millions of volunteers in Australia and the contributions they make to communities around the country are enormous. At Joondalup Libraries we have a wonderful network of volunteers and facilitators. We thank them for their valuable contributions in helping our community to keep learning and stay connected. If you would like to meet new people, make a difference in your community, or share your skills, then volunteering may be for you. Discovery Outbound offers a variety of fun activities and outings for people aged 50 years and older, who enjoy being active, creative, entertained or learning new things. Upcoming events include an outdoor movie, drumming workshop, museum and gallery visits and a cave tour.

The library paparazzi (or rather, library staff with a camera!) will visit all Joondalup Libraries leading up to Christmas to take family Christmas photos next to our special library decorations. Put on your best Christmas outfit and come along for a free family photo. No cost. No bookings.

Discovery session – Furoshiki gift wrapping

Joondalup Library

Join Japanese artist Nami Osaki to learn the sustainable art of furoshiki gift wrapping. Furoshiki is a Japanese traditional wrapping cloth that is eco-friendly and mostly used for wrapping gifts and carrying goods. Learn to wrap gifts of different sizes and shapes with cloth you probably already have at home.

Discovery session – Start stitching

Join the Embroiderers’ Guild of WA as they share their tips and tricks with you while you create your own Christmas stitching project. This workshop is suitable for beginners, and you will be provided with everything you need to complete the project.

Discovery session – Merry Christmas Jazz Show

Whitford Library

The Melody Masters Jazz Trio presents an evening of well-known Christmas tunes along with some contemporary gems. Your feet will be tapping, and you may even find yourself merrily singing along. Christmas attire is welcomed. Cost $5. Book and pay online.

Becky Buckaroo’s Christmas Bonanza

Join Becky Buckaroo for a festive show filled with singing, dancing and lots of Christmas Cooooeeees! Becky will take children on an amazing storytelling journey, featuring all her favourite Aussie bush animal friends, including the Little Lost Quokka. It will be a Christmas extravaganza of Aussie fun.

Discovery session – Serenades of the season

Back by popular demand! Tenor Jay Weston will ring in the festive season with a light-hearted performance of Christmas songs interspersed with some of his personal favourites.

International Year of Quantum Science and Technology

The UN has named 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology. The year 2025 was chosen to recognise 100 years of quantum mechanics.

Discovery session – Tai chi and tea

Have you ever wondered how your life could improve by practicing Tai chi? Tai chi is an ancient art that people are continually gravitating towards to support longevity and self-improvement. Come and try a Tai chi session followed by some refreshing tea.

Writing your family history

Join us for an informative session on how to make a start at writing your family’s history. Find out how to turn facts and memories into a story that relatives can treasure for generations. Join Liana Fitzpatrick, founder of the Family History WA Writers’ Group, who will introduce you to several writing styles to use when turning your research into writing.

Discovery session – Amphibious Jeep adventure

Wednesday 22 January, 6pm Whitford Library

In 1948, West Australian Ben Carlin set out on an epic adventure to circumnavigate the globe in an amphibious jeep. Ten years and 50,000 miles later he completed his journey over land and sea setting a world record that has stood for over 60 years. Join us as Ben’s only daughter, Deirdre Carlin, shares a rare movie directed by and featuring Ben from the 1950’s, It’s a Small World. This is a movie not to be missed.

Discovery session – Happy cats and wildlife

Hear from renowned cat behaviour expert, Dr Heather Crawford, on how to embrace responsible cat ownership, keeping your beloved feline safe and protecting our native wildlife. Explore the options from simple fence toppers to more tailored ‘catio’ containment solutions to create a safe and stimulating environment at home for your moggy.

Community discovery – Living well with arthritis

Arthritis & Osteoporosis WA presents Living well with arthritis.

People dealing with arthritis and/or osteoporosis can live well with the conditions. However, the abundance of information and treatment options available can make it challenging to choose the right path. Join us for help mapping out the right path for you.

Discovery session - Basic French

Monday, 3 February-30 June, 5pm-6pm

Semester 1 2025, 20 weeks

This basic 20-week introduction to the French language begins with “bonjour” and will give you some basic vocabulary and rules to start you on your journey towards learning this beautiful language. Booking is for 20 weeks.

Discovery session – Hiking the Cape to Cape

Thursday 6 February, 6pm

Tess Moone takes us on the road to one of Western Australia’s premier hiking experiences - the 130-kilometre Cape to Cape trail. Gain practical tips and guidance for planning your own adventure on this stunning trail and learn more about what’s required for beginners to embark on overnight camping hikes.

Library Lovers’ Day

Valentine’s Day is a special day where we celebrate love, but it is also Library Lovers’ Day, dedicated to library lovers everywhere.

To celebrate all that we love about libraries, look out for the special Library Lovers’ bookmarks for your chance to win a lovely prize.

Parenting workshop – Packed with goodness

Join us for a free nutrition session for parents presented by a qualified nutritionist. Pick up new ideas for packing balanced lunchboxes and get tips on how to build healthy habits in the home. Topics covered include healthy snacks, label reading and fussy eating.

This is a free service to the community and no appointment is necessary. If you need certified copies of documents, bring the original and the copies to be signed. Some documents require a second witness so please bring someone with you if this is the case.
