About our Schools Inclusion programs and support for students with disability
Kalgoorlie-Boulder provides an inclusive, supportive environment for all children to grow, learn and develop. The City also has two schools to support students with additional needs: • O’Connor Education Support Centre • Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre GIFSA (Goldfields Individual and Family Support Association) also supports people with disabilities and their families throughout the Goldfields-Esperance region.

Supporting Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Students to Shine Kalgoorlie Girls Academy
Kalgoorlie Girls Academy (KGA) aims to improve the life skills and self-esteem of both Indigenous and nonIndigenous girls who are selected for the program. Working with students at Eastern Goldfields College and Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School, the program overseen by Role Models WA.
Clontarf Boys Academy
The Goldfields Clontarf Academy was established in 2002 and is run from Kalgoorlie-Boulder Community High School and Eastern Goldfields College, catering for students in Years 8 to 12. Academy members participate in activities throughout their schooling that build life skills, self-esteem and discipline, as well as improving education, leadership qualities and employment prospects. The Academy celebrates the work environment by exposing the boys to local employers through site visits and employment forums.
East Kalgoorlie-Primary School
East Kalgoorlie Primary has been recognised for their outstanding contribution to Aboriginal Education in Kalgoorlie-Boulder at a local, State and national level. East Kalgoorlie Primary School (EKPS) is located on the periphery of the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder. Originally servicing the Williamstown and Ninga Mia community to the east, the school has evolved over time. At present, EKPS remains a local intake school that educates students from the entire City with an average enrolment of 150 students, 99 percent of whom are Aboriginal. EKPS is committed to ensuring that students have access to every learning opportunity, providing a ‘level playing field’ for all students. Our school culture of ‘high performance – high care’ ensures that disadvantage does not define one’s destiny, nor is it an excuse for poor academic results. We create a caring and supportive environment that develops the academic, physical and social support for children with disabilities in Kalgoorlie-Boulder, Kambalda and Coolgardie. Our special needs trained teachers and education assistants create individual programs designed to suit the student, with input from parents and the child’s therapists. Each classroom has a teacher and several education assistants, ensuring students receive the attention and support they need. We have many links with the wider community and the disability sector in Kalgoorlie and our School Council also has community and disability sector representatives.

1. St Joseph’s School was established 120 years ago by the Sisters of St Joseph. 2. All classes have at least one education assistant, or extra teacher, to assist during literacy time. 3. Our students have weekly sport, health, science, dance and library lessons with specialist teachers.

1. Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre grew from the Lorna Mitchell School established in 1951. 2. Each student works towards goals set in a personalised learning program, based on the WA Curriculum. 3. EGESC students participate in lessons with their mainstream peers at our co-located schools, KalgoorlieBoulder Community High School and Eastern Goldfields College.
Eastern Goldfields Education Support Centre (EGESC) provides educational programs to high school aged students with special education needs, including intellectual disabilities and Autism with associated high needs. Our students receive a quality education, with a strong emphasis on ensuring students are ‘Ready for Life’. Highly skilled and passionate educators work together to support students to develop their knowledge and understanding in key areas of literacy, numeracy, digital technologies, social and self-management skills. Hannans North Tourist Mine Take your time to explore above ground at Hannans North Tourist Mine and discover the secrets of gold rush history and modern day mining in the Goldfields. Listen to Paddy Hannan tell his tale of discovery, find your fortune panning for gold, and try your hand at the legendary game of ‘Two-Up’. Hannans North also allows you to experience modern day mining. Climb aboard a giant 793C haul truck, stand in the shovel of a 994F loader, and go inside a modern underground refuge chamber where up to twelve people can survive for seventy-two hours.
Goldfields Oasis Get active while having a great time at the Goldfields Oasis.
