If you currently use the City’s Recreation Facilities, and want to register for classes online, grab your scan card and let’s get started. Go to www.lakelandathletics.net and select the tab for the type of programming you would like to register for. (Classes are organized by start date.) Select the name of the class to get more detailed information. Once you have chosen the class you are interested in, select “Register” at the far right of the row. If you have not used the online registration before, a user name and a password must be set up. Once that is done you can log in. On the next screen check the box to agree to the terms including the 2.8% fee. Continue to the next screen. If you have a scan card for the participant enrolling in the class/program enter the number on the back. (Note: You must use the scan card for the person participating in the class. Each individual has their own scan card; therefore, a parent cannot use their scan card to register their child for a class.) If you don’t have a scan card, you can enter your information into the yellow fields for the participant. Now, you can either proceed to checkout or add additional registrations. it’s not the Established in 1983, Kelly Recreation Complex has been providing recreation opportunities to the community of Lakeland for over 25 years. This facility houses an expansive cardio theatre, multilevel fitness area, several classrooms, as well as a 12,000 square foot gymnasium. For those seeking outdoor recreation, eight lighted tennis courts are also available. This spacious facility provides the residents of Lakeland access to a diverse selection of recreation activities. Registration at the Kelly Recreation Complex is required for all activities and classes. Due to limited enrollment, pre-registration and pre-payment is recommended and sometimes required for classes. Online registration is available for most classes check page 5 for details.

A high-impact cardio-fight fitness program. Participants can burn between 600 and 800 calories per class. It incorporates fight routines, free weights, resistance training and cardio into a high-energy motivational hour! The minimum age requirement is 15 years old. Participants 12-14 years of age may work out if accompanied by a parent or guardian, 18 years old and up. Anyone under the age of 12 cannot use the fitness rooms due to insurance requirements. All participants are encouraged to consult a physician before beginning any exercise program. Co-Ed Cardio Room: Work out in our cardio room featuring Cardio Theatre and Precor & Track Master machines such as cross trainers, upright & recumbent bikes, steppers, treadmills, rowers and more! The theatre consists of 8 flat screen televisions on different stations for your entertainment. Standard 3.5 mm headphones are required for the audio. Pre-Ballet Dance Play (Ages 3-5) Teaching creative play and socialization through dance movements, the child learns poise and balance through stretching and breathing. Dancers learn direction, grace, poise, tempo and how to work as a group. Also, they learn isolation, focusing on one part of the body. These can be simple movements to an adult, but a small child can have difficulty putting coordination, rhythm, and tempo all together. The Beerman Family Tennis Complex, located at Edgewood Park, has

The complex is open Monday through Friday, from 8:00 am to 10:00 pm. Saturday and Sunday the courts will close at the same time as Common Ground Playground. Kid's Tennis Halloween Spectacular Junior beginning players invited. This event includes tennis, games, food and fun with a Halloween theme. The Coleman-Bush Building is a recently renovated and redesigned, multi-purpose facility with attractive amenities including several rooms serving as rental space, meeting rooms, classrooms and a dance studio. This building is a fitting location for a wide range of events including weddings, receptions, reunions and many other types of gatherings. Also, many educational and recreational classes are offered and we are always looking to expand our class offerings. Crystal’s World of Dance strives to increase artistic opportunities and provide outlets for the youth within the Lakeland community.

Providing a unique

approach to dance instruction dancers receive professional training through a variety of dance techniques including Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Hip Hop, Modern, and African Dance & Drumming.

All students are introduced to the skills of

performing, stage presence and projection. All while becoming motivated to perform, and feel a need to dance! Crystal’s World of Dance offers two recitals annually, in conjunction with several community performances and competitions. It is the Mission of Crystal’s World of Dance to expose each student to the world of dance through training and performances. The Student’s participate in several community performances such as: The production of Clare and the Chocolate Nutcracker, The L.B Brown cultural festival, The Evelyn Bryant Cultural Festival, and The Black Nativity. Students take pride in traveling to participate in training classes, workshops and to perform. Dancers have visited The Debbie Allen Dance Academy in California, The Broadway Dance Center in New York City, Total Dance in Atlanta, and Joy of Motion in Washington DC to name a few. In 2013, dancers traveled to Atlanta, Ga. to compete in the National Platinum Dance Competition and won 1st place in three different categories. Elite Dancers are at the highest level class offered and has a strong focus on more complex steps and choreography. It focuses on the tools, technique, and strength needed to execute this advanced form of dance. These advanced dancers are focused on dance conditioning, advanced technique, musicality, style and execution of choreography. This level will take that technique and challenge the dancers to find their own style as well as adjust to other teaching styles of Jazz, Ballet and Tap

Jazz dance steps are the first part of exploring jazz dance, an energetic and exciting display of physical prowess. Jazz dance itself is a combination of classical ballet moves mixed with steps from American popular culture, including African and Celtic dance influences. While it has become a fine art form, originally jazz dance was designed to entertain, and even the basic steps have a showy, extreme feel to them.

Super Tots is designed for toddlers age 3 and 4 and is perfect for those entering a dance class for the first time who are eager to explore the world of dance! The dancers will have a rich experience of learning how their bodies respond to music learning skills such as locomotor (moving) and non-locomotor (staying in one place) movements in an atmosphere that is filled with imagery and self-expression. Dancers learn basic ballet and jazz skills that help strengthen their motor coordination & body awareness. Social skills are also acquired as they develop simple class tasks such as taking turns and following directions while interacting with their peers.

CWOD Fusion is for the more advanced dancer and is for those dancers who have previously focused on basic technique. This level will take that technique and challenge the dancers to find their own style as well as adjust to other teaching styles of Jazz, Ballet, and Tap. These advanced dancers are focused on dance conditioning, advanced technique, musicality, style and execution of choreography.

— BALLET & TAP Ballet is a classic art form teaches poise, strength, grace & control, proper body placement & alignment as well as discipline. This genre is the essential foundation for all other types of dance and is foremost in learning proper technique. TAP class is a form of dance wherein rhythmic sounds are created by the feet. This class teaches all the very basic through advanced skills in tap with emphasis on rhythm, and tempo, and ability to count music, with numbers and even sounds. —

JR. PRO BALLET & TAP

Jr. Pro Tap class continues the education of steps and combinations across the floor with a general focus more complex combinations, turns and historical tap combinations. Jr Pro Ballet students learn how to incorporate both slow and fast movements into their ballet repertoire. Students use their previous training and ballet alignment to train in the centre of their room for balance, travelling, jumping, and turning.

— BALLET 2 Ballet Level 2 is a class for any dancer with a beginning understanding of ballet technique. The class covers the fundamentals of ballet technique using simple combination patterns to allow students to focus on perfecting their technique and learn new steps. This class builds of skills taught in level 1.

— JAZZ 2 Jazz 2 builds on the skills and technique learned in Jazz I. Students will continue to work on jazz positions, turns, leaps and choreography. Students will be expected to continue work on strength and flexibility to enhance their skills and continue to grow as dancers.

— HIP HOP 1 Hip Hop 1 is designed for beginners who will have a blast in this fast paced, high energy dance class which introduces basic hip hop, the latest trends. All movement will be modest & age appropriate.

— Jr. Pro Jazz Jr. Pro Jazz focuses on skills in isolation, syncopation, strength, rhythm, contraction, and expansion. Influenced by African dance, jazz dance uses many of the techniques from other forms of dance allowing room for improvisation. There is a strong emphasis on proper execution of technique. Coleman-Bush Building History

Coleman-Bush Building was designed to be a multipurpose physical facility for the social, economic, health, cultural, recreational, and educational needs of the growing community. Construction began on the then-named Northwest Community Center in 1974. In October of 1980, it officially became the Coleman-Bush Building. It was named after two gentlemen who were prominent members of the community. Charles A. Coleman was a Lakeland Commissioner from 1974 until 1978. He also served as mayor pro term in 1976 and mayor in 1977. Gow M. Bush was a well known physician. They were both active and involved in the local civic affairs. This building has proven to be an important asset to the community and has continued to fulfill the objective set up all those years ago. It has provided office space for lease by nonprofit organizations and meeting space for civic groups. Social events enhance the quality of the community life, so it is only fitting that the Coleman-Bush Building, a community cornerstone, hosts these events, as well. It also provides leisure time programming for the city’s residents. City of Lakeland Neighborhood Services & Housing Division replaced the rental suites, NAACP remains in the building.

This gorgeous recreation facility features two multipurpose rooms, game room, kitchen, separate men’s and women’s weight rooms, study hall facility, computer center and a spacious gymnasium which houses two full-size basketball courts. It is equipped with great outdoor facilities as well, such as one tennis court, two basketball courts, playground and a newly renovated softball field. This indoor/outdoor facility allows the Parks and Recreation Department the opportunity to provide comprehensive recreation programming to suit the varied needs and interests of the North Lakeland Community. Instructional classes, sports leagues, recreational play, fitness and special event programming ensure constant activities.
