VISION
LAKELAND
–a vibrant, innovative, culturally-inclusive, world-class community.
• MISSION A community working together to achieve an exceptional quality of life.
CITIZENS OF LAKELAND:
This time of year
signifies new beginnings and also marks a time of change. Many of us make New Year’s resolutions and set goals as we reflect on improvements whether it is at home, the workplace or for physical/ health reasons. As I look toward the upcoming year, I believe the City of Lakeland has great reasons to be excited about our future! We have recently completed a number of major initiatives and we have many exciting new projects you will see develop in the very near future. The City of Lakeland offers a wide array of municipal services which touch the lives of our citizens each and every day. The City covers an area of almost 75 square miles with a population exceeding 98,200 residents. As a municipality, we are proud that Lakeland continues to be one of the lowest cost providers of services in the state when comparing total annual service costs, including taxes and utility charges. This has been accomplished through a variety of operational efficiencies which has allowed us to continue to provide quality services at historical levels with fewer personnel given a phased reduction of almost 160 Full Time Equivalents (FTE’s) since 2007.

We hope that you enjoy the data compiled in this special edition of Access Lakeland. It is difficult to present a comprehensive overview of all that we do within a newsletter, but we believe the infographic layout will provide highlights of the services we deliver with pride for our community each and every day. I invite you to stay informed and get connected with your City by downloading our new Link2Lakeland mobile app available on all smart phone platforms. One of the City’s goals includes developing an informed and engaged community, so please consider downloading the mobile app, visiting our website, following us on Facebook, attending a City Commission or Citizen Board meeting and viewing some of our programming on the Lakeland Government Network. I wish you a Happy New Year and on behalf of the entire municipal organization, we consider it an honor to serve our community and working with you to achieve an exceptional quality of life for Lakeland!
