BEGINNING BELLY DANCE Try it, you’ll like it! Looking for a low impact, feelgood way to move your body? Belly dance uses feminine movements to improve muscle tone, flexibility, coordination and core strength. This dance has it all: mind (cognitive exercise), body (head, hips, hands, arms & ribcage movement), spirit (express your feminine, sensual side). No need to show your belly. Wear comfortable clothing that allows ease of movement.

BALLROOM DANCE: Country Two-Step/Country Waltz Learn the basics and beyond of two popular country dances. The first four weeks will feature Country Two-Step, and the second four weeks will feature Country Waltz. Both longtime favorites move in ballroom fashion around the dance floor with fun and easy turns for both partners. Important basics of lead, follow and connection with our partner are covered. VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT Gail Boex In the ‘80s, I learned about Japanese Bunka embroidery from my mother. She loved using a special needle to punch gorgeous unique rayon thread into cloth stretched over a wood frame. She wanted me to learn how to do it, but I was too busy with my private practice, my ministry and being a married mother of two boys! In 2002, I was scanning through a catalog from Clements Community Center. I saw a class offered for Japanese Bunka embroidery. The first day of class, I met Mary and Peggy, who were also new students, and together, we stitched and studied with Merna until she passed away in 2013. Mary would become our next instructor and continued until 2018. Recently, I decided to step up into the volunteer leadership role. With 18 years of Bunka under my belt, the supportive Bunka group and the mastery expertise of our group member Kathy, we are happy. We now call ourselves The Bunka Babes, and this past year we enjoyed a holiday gift exchange and a lunch outing together. Our goals are to keep the class going, learn new techniques, enjoy our wonderful friendships and welcome new students to the group! PS: Men are welcome!

Turn to page 10 for details on the Bunka embroidery class.
