Registration, cancellation and ADA policies All participants need to sign a release from liability form before registering and participating in any Lenexa Parks and Recreation program. Children need to have the form signed by a parent or legal guardian prior to attending a class. All program cancellations will be determined 48 hours (2 business days) before the class is scheduled to begin. In order to prevent cancellations, all registrations are required before the 48-hour deadline. You will be notified if a program is cancelled or changed. A confirmation receipt can be mailed, upon request, for any program. If you need to cancel, call at least five business days before the program begins.
Refunds will only be made if cancellation does not affect the minimum number required. There will be a $5 processing fee. Refunds generally take three to six weeks. Some senior trips and programs require advance notice and have their own cancellation policies. Refunds are not granted after the activity starts. The City of Lenexa is committed to making reasonable accommodations for disabled persons, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act. Requests for accommodations must be made at least 10 business days prior to program or activity.

Lenexa Arts Council offers concert series, new art, more The Lenexa Arts Council is offering several exciting ways to enjoy visual and performing art this spring and summer.
Free Outdoor Concert Series
Youth summer camps offered If you are looking for summer camp opportunities for your kids this summer, check out the great options at the Lenexa Community Center. Learn more or register online. Dancing with Princesses - June 1-5, 9-11 a.m. (Ages 3-6). Learn dances with pretend princess characters. Friday includes a tea party and demo performance. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Fee - $60. LTD Basketball Camp - June 8-11, 10 a.m.-noon (Ages 9-14) and 8:30-9:30 a.m. (Ages 6-8). Livin’ The Dream presents a fun way to learn basketball by focusing on the fundamentals while helping build self confidence with skill development, games, competitions. Fee - $80 (ages 9-14) or $50 (ages 6-8). Dance Mania - June 8-12, 9-11 a.m. (Ages 7+). Learn all forms of dance - tap, jazz, acrobat, ballet, musical theater dance and pom/dance team. Friday includes demo performance to show what campers worked on throughout the week. Wear comfortable clothes and shoes. Fee - $60. Alternative Sports Camps - June 8-12, 1-4 p.m. (Ages 7-14). Bring your friends and learn non-traditional sports such as Pickleball, disc golf, ping pong, golf, bowling and more. Fee - $50. STEAM Camp - June 15-19, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. (Ages 7-12). Work with engineers and learn what it’s like. Do fun science and art activities such as learning to code video-game style; shoot paint rockets and more. Also use LEGOs to build boats, bridges, cars, skyscrapers and more with the guidance of a Play-Well instructor. Fee - $180. Pre-Engineering with LEGO - June 15-19, 9 a.m.-noon. (Ages 5-6). Explore endless possibilities of engineering with guidance from a Play-Well instructor to build bridges, cars and more. Fee - $140. Missoula Children’s Theatre - July 13-18, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. (Grades 1-12). Auditions are from 10 a.m. - noon on July 13. About 60 cast members and four directors will be selected for “Blackbeard the Pirate.” Camp includes three workshops, dress rehearsal and two performances (5:30 p.m. on July 17 and 3 p.m. on July 18). Fee - $65. Show admission - $5. Bashem Bots with LEGO - July 27-31, 1-4 p.m. (Ages 7-12). Re-engineer standard LEGO vehicles into mechanized machines, traverse challenging obstacles, battle against fellow bots and more. Prerequisite: Any Play Well class, Pre-engineering or STEAM. Fee - $140.
Enjoy free outdoor concerts on Sunday evenings in May and June. Bring your lawn chairs or blankets and picnic dinner and enjoy a variety of music including jazz, strings, mariachi, Abbey Road (Beatles tribute band) and more. Concerts begin at 6 p.m. and will be held on May 3, 17, 31 and June 7, 14, 21 and 28. Check the web for the schedule and locations.
New Public Art An exciting new bronze sculpture, “Frenzied Flight,” by Lenexa artist Robin Richerson, will be installed in one of the cascading pools at Central Green Park in May. Plans are underway for a dedication ceremony at the Lenexa Art Fair on May 9. Also, the public art sculpture, “Bull Ridge,” which was moved from its original location at K-10 Highway and I-435 due to highway construction, is being relocated this spring to Prairie Star Parkway, just west of Fire Station #5.
Latino Art Bravisimo & Art Trolley Tour Latino Art Bravisimo art show features high quality art by KC Metro artists of Latino heritage. This year’s show will be on display Jun 5-July 13. The public is invited to attend the artist reception from 6-8 p.m. on June 19 to view the art, and enjoy food and live music. The Arts Council is also partnering with the Lenexa Chamber of Commerce on June 19 to host the second Art Trolley Tour, which will include visits to various locations (including Latino Art Bravisimo) to enjoy art exhibits. Swim & dive lessons
Get your season pass online or at the Community Center Memberships may be purchased online (renewals only) or at the Community Center, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Additional hours will be offered Saturday, May 23 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., May 26-28 from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and May 29 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Proof of residency is required. All members will be required to have a membership card at time of entry. For residents, a family pass is $110, an individual pass is $60 and a senior pass is $28 for the season. Nonresident passes are $175 for a family, $95 for an individual and $35 for seniors. Single day passes for residents cost $1 for seniors, $5 at Ad Astra and Flat Rock Creek and $6 at Indian Trails. Nonresidents pay $7 at Ad Astra and Flat Rock Creek and $8 at Indian Trails.
Lenexa offers swimming and diving lessons for all skill levels to develop swimming techniques, self-esteem and positive aquatic experiences. An eight-lesson session is $40 for residents and $45 for nonresidents. Lessons last 30 minutes and are offered Monday through Thursday mornings at Indian Trails and evenings at Flat Rock Creek. Fridays are make-up/ rain days. Sessions begin June 8, June 22, July 13 and July 27. Limited weekend sessions are available starting June 6 and July 11. Private swim lessons for $15 per half hour and beginning and advanced dive lessons are also available.
Lenexa Lazers swim & dive team Kids who want to get involved with a swim or dive team can register for the Lenexa Lazers swim and dive teams for a summer of fun and recreation! The pre-competitive swim team is for kids 11 years old and younger. Competitive swim and dive teams, and combo teams are also available. One team, either swim or dive, costs $110/resident and both cost $143/ resident. Register by May 1.

Lenexa Art Fair, wine & craft beer tasting Saturday, May 9 • Central Green Park • 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. (tasting event 4-8 p.m.) Join us for the second Lenexa Art Fair, where you can shop for high quality fine art at more than 50 booths, enjoy live jazz music and food trucks and sample great local wines and craft beers in the beautiful Central Green Park at City Center (87th Street Parkway, just west of Renner Boulevard). The art fair runs from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., May 9, and the wine and beer tasting will be held from 4-8 p.m. Admission to the art fair is free. Admission to the tasting is $20 at the event. Families are welcome at the Lenexa Art Fair. Participants in the tasting event must be 21 or older; IDs will be checked at the gate. Bring the family out to Electric Park for a night full of games, live music and a family-friendly musical movie, the original “Annie.” Movie in the Park, part of our annual May is Music Month celebration, will be held on Friday, May 15. Outdoor lawn games and live music by Ego Satellites
are planned for 5:30-8:30 p.m. The movie starts at 8:30. Free popcorn and drinks will be provided by State Farm agent Greg Aldridge. The free event is sponsored in part by the Lenexa Arts Council. Get Outdoors Lenexa Fun activities for families, great new Tiny Tot Triathlon added
Summer is just around the corner, which means it’s time to smell the fresh air and enjoy one of the metro area’s most beautiful parks. Bring your family and friends to Black Hoof Park for the third annual Get Outdoors Lenexa, a family event that offers a variety of activities, on Saturday, June 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. The event and most activities are free. We’ve lined up a great morning of outdoor challenges, yoga, kickboxing and stroller strides demos, outdoor safety tips, geocaching, an obstacle course and much more. A fishing derby for kids ages 12 and under will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Preregistration is required.
Check out the Family Campout at Black Hoof Park on June 12, the night before Get Outdoors Lenexa. Details on page 13.

New this year is the Tiny Tot Triathlon, a fitness event for kids ages 3-6 that includes bicycling, running and getting wet in the sprinkler and waterslide. All participants will receive a medal. Bring a bicycle or tricycle, helmet, tennis shoes and comfortable clothes that can get wet. Adult assistance is required. Kids will bike 600 feet, run 600 feet and then get wet at the end of the route. No swimming is involved. The triathlon takes place from 10-11 a.m. Preregistration opens April 1 and closes June 9. Kids can also sign up at the event. Fee - $2 for preregistration or $5 at the event.

Fun social gathering, live music, great food at Lenexa BBQ
Join us for our largest event of the year - The Great Lenexa Barbeque Battle - where 185 barbeque teams will compete for the coveted title of Kansas State Champion. Enjoy live music featuring The Shanks, free kids’ activities and barbeque. The event is from 4:30-11 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Saturday at Sar-Ko-Par Trails Park.
Admission is $5 Friday and free Saturday. Kids 12 and under get in free both days. Contestants hold private parties on Friday night. Free samples (while they last) are available on Saturday beginning at 11:30 a.m. near the main stage. Concessions are also available.
Kick off July 4th celebrations with fun, patriotic 5K or 10k Lace up your running shoes and join us for the 37th annual Lenexa Freedom Run (5K and 10K) at 7 a.m. on Saturday, July 4 in Old Town. All levels of runners are welcome. Awards are given in age categories and are available for pickup after results are verified. Electronic chips will be used. Approximately 1600 runners participate each year. All registrants receive a souvenir T-shirt. Find route maps, road closures, packet pick-up information and registration information on the web.

Lenexa Moonlight Bike Ride is back New name, New time, New route. Same great family fun! • Saturday, July 18 at 10 p.m. starting in Old Town. Join hundreds of bicyclists for a spectacular ride on Lenexa streets at night at our 20th annual event. Now called the Moonlight Bike Ride, this family friendly event will start at 10 p.m. near Old Town just west of Pflumm on Santa Fe Trail Drive. Riders will enjoy the six-mile, closed course route down 95th Street and the return of the popular ride through the Meritex caves! The course ends back near Old Town. Following the ride, participants can stay for the pancake feed for an extra fee. The Moonlight Bike Ride, organized by Lenexa Parks and Recreation and the Lenexa Optimists Club, will be held on Saturday, July 18 at 10 p.m. Visit the city’s website for more information or to register.
Tails on the Trails dog swims, pet fun is Aug. 15
Sign up to be in the Parade
Bring your four-legged friend for a morning of fun at Lenexa’s Tails on the Trails pet festival at Ad Astra pool and park on Saturday, Aug. 15 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. At the event, you can visit with pet vendors and enjoy the pet talent show, dog swims and demonstrations. Dog swim times for large dogs (more than 30 pounds) are 9 a.m. and again at

noon. Small dogs (less than 30 pounds) are at 10 a.m. Combined swim (all sizes allowed) will be held at 11 a.m. Dog swims are $5 per dog per session when preregistered and $8 at the gate. Registration can be completed in person or online. Dog owners must show proof of current license and vaccination at the event.
Join your friends and neighbors in celebrating our rich tradition of community by entering Lenexa’s 2015 Community Days Parade, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 4 in Old Town. Entries should be family friendly, patriotic and highlight Lenexa’s community spirit. Parade participation is free; all entries must register on the city’s website by June 20.

Join your friends on a fun-filled trip to mid-Missouri. Highlights include visiting the Anheuser Busch Clydesdales at Warm Springs Ranch, Hospitality Barn for soft drinks or samples of the company’s brews, lunch at the Blufftop Bistro, just outside Boonville, MO and a visit to Russell Stover Candies on the way back to Lenexa. Fee includes motorcoach transportation, lunch (includes tax and gratuity), guided walking tour and staff escort. Chicken-N-Pickin’ - June 24 Due to overwhelming interest in our Chicken-N-Pickin’ trip, which sold out in May, we are offering an additional date. Gambling Casino Trips - July 15 and Sept. 30
Join us for a trip to Prairie Band Casino, located 30 miles north of Topeka, on July 15. The $20 fee includes 4-hour gaming session, $10 for gaming, motorcoach transportation and staff escort. Depart from the Senior Center at 8:45 a.m. and return at 4:45 p.m. Deadline is 6/25. Then make plans to join us for a trip to Downstream Casino in Quapaw, OK, located about 150 miles south of Lenexa, on Sept. 30. Art & Wine Adventure II - September 24-25 Travel by Amtrak railways to beautiful Hermann, Mo. This art adventure takes you to Bentonville, where we will tour the Crystal Bridges Museum, featuring a special exhibit of Andy Warhol’s nature paintings, The Museum of Native American History, The Peel Mansion of Historic Gardens, and finally, a step-on guided tour of Bentonville, which includes visiting various famous locations. Here is your chance to camp out in Black Hoof Park, which was named the Best Kept Secret by KC Parent Magazine. Families are invited to pitch a tent and enjoy an evening under the stars.
