Wednesday 9 March 2016, 7.30pm Southwark Cathedral, London Bridge, London, SE1 9DA City of London Sinfonia Roderick Williams baritone Journey through England’s Elizabethan age and the Shropshire countryside as baritone, Roderick Williams joins City of London Sinfonia for a celebration of English song from the early 20th century. English composers including Vaughan Williams, Finzi and Butterworth set about creating a new language of English song, re-imagining earlier times of pastoral idyll as the First World War and clamour of industry continued to destroy their lives and the cities around them. A pre-concert talk by British folk singer and traditional music specialist, Sam Lee and baritone, Roderick Williams sets the scene as they discuss what defines Englishness in music. This concert forms part of CLS’s RE:Imagine series exploring re-imagined works, musical experiences and new interpretations
