Within these pages you will be introduced to the many City owned athletic facilities located in Lynchburg, Virginia. Lynchburg, Virginia is nestled at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountain range along the historic James River. A city of 50 square miles, it is located near the geographic center of the state and is a vibrant central city with a strong sense of community and economic opportunity. The City’s lodging, dining entertainment amenities, and athletic facilities, coupled with the state of the art athletic facilities at many of our local colleges and universities, make us an ideal venue for many sporting events. Your event attendees will be able to discover celebrated historic places, diverse local cuisine, and unique shops as Lynchburg is the perfect place to stay while exploring nearby attractions such as the Lynchburg Museum, the National D-Day Memorial, Thomas Jefferson’s Poplar Forest, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Appomattox Court House National Historical Park, American Civil War Museum, and the award winning Amazement Square Hands-On Museum. From hiking and biking trails, to snowboarding, to arts and architecture, from history to gardens, there is so much to experience and savor during your visit with us. The Lynchburg City Stadium complex is a wonderful venue for businesses, sports teams and event planners looking for a centrally located, large space. The Complex hosts a baseball and football field with bleachers seating audiences of up to 9,000. The facility includes two press boxes as well as scoreboard, natural turf grass field and gravel track. With lots of parking and attractive, newly renovated facilities the Lynchburg City Stadium Complex is a great place for team practices and games, large company picnics and other events. In addition, the Stadium lawn can be used as an event space for up to 5,000 people.

Peaks View Park is the second largest park in Lynchburg, and offers both passive and active recreation. The park has four lighted tennis courts, seven multi-purpose fields for soccer, football, softball, baseball and Ultimate Frisbee, as well as a basketball court, mountain bike trails and a disc golf course.

Miller Park has almost 30 acres and includes two picnic shelters, as well as the historic Aviary, which can be used for weddings, parties, and other events. The grounds hold a baseball/softball field, basketball court and horseshoe pit. The Miller Park Pool is an eight lane outdoor pool available for swim meets.

The Blackwater Creek Trail is one of the most popular trails in the City of Lynchburg. Following the winding Blackwater Creek and built on an abandoned railway bed, this 3-mile paved trail is perfect for jogging, walking, and biking and connects to the entire Jefferson Heritage Trail system which snakes throughout the city.


This park has a little bit of everything, including Phase I of the only off-leash dog area in Lynchburg! The park also includes a connection to the Creekside Trail, which leads to the Blackwater Creek Natural Area, restrooms, and a multi-purpose lighted field that accommodates football, lacrosse, rugby or soccer.

Ivy Creek Park is a green oasis that includes the six-acre Clemmons Lake, multi-use trails, picnic and play areas, as well as an auxiliary site for the naturalists of the Nature Zone and some of their aquatically-inclined reptiles and amphibians. Canoe or kayak on the lake or take in some fishing while enjoying the serene surroundings.

The second oldest park in Lynchburg, Riverside Park has over 49 acres of rolling parkland with lovely stands of trees and walking trails that provide views of the wooded hillsides and the river beyond. The park has wonderful views of the James River from the Overlook and along the Alpine Trail, which was the first dedicated hiking trail in Lynchburg. Active recreation opportunities include tennis and basketball, with extensive playground equipment for younger children located in the front of the park. The park also includes the sprayground, open seasonally.

Located above the Lynchburg Community Market, the Lynchburg City Armory is used by Lynchburg Parks and Recreation for court sports, including basketball and dodgeball. It is also used as a special event venue.


With over 21 acres of scenic parkland, Sandusky offers athletic fields, picnic area, and paved trail along the Blackwater Creek. The park features an eighteen hole disc golf course and fields for football, lacrosse, rugby and soccer.

Riverfront Park is located along the James River in downtown Lynchburg and includes a large open field suitable for festivals and other special events of up to 4,000 people. The zero depth aquatic area is a great place to play and cool down. The park is convenient to restaurants, Jefferson Heritage Trail system and other attractions.
