Level 1 Leisure Pool

powered by Group swim lessons are for children 3 to 17 years old. Adults interested in swim lessons are invited to register for adult group, private, and semi-private lessons. All lessons are held in the Leisure Pool unless otherwise noted.

Registration Deadline Please register your children by December 27. We regret that we may be unable to adjust schedules to accommodate late registrations.

Infant Water Safety Leisure Pool The goal of this private, one-on-one lesson is to promote a positive response to the water environment and teach your 6- to 24-month old baby to float on his or her back and get a breath of air. The emphasis is on water adaptation and training children to react in a constructive manner should they find themselves in water accidentally. A coach will work with your child in the water. PLEASE NOTE: Completion of this class does not mean your child is water-safe. Adult supervision is still required whenever your child is around water. Completing this class may, however, provide you with some extra moments should an accident occur. Fee (PRE/BAS/MR/NR): $90 /$106 /$131 /$156 Please call 513.229.8555, extension 5510 to schedule your class.

Swim Tots In this parent-assisted class, your 6- to 36-month old child will become acclimated to the aquatic environment. Children in diapers must wear swim diapers or securely fitted pants. Please come prepared to accompany your child in the water.

Prerequisite: Have a Mason Swim Academy Level 5/6 certificate or be able to complete 25 yards each of freestyle with rotary breathing and backstroke. Stroke School is for swimmers who intend to learn advanced elements and stroke efficiency in all four stroke types. The stroke school includes the skills taught in Levels 7 and 8 of the Mason Swim Academy.

Prerequisite: Able to complete 25 yards each of freestyle with rotary breathing, backstroke, breast stroke, and butterfly. Mom Applauds Daughter’s Progress at Mason Community Center

After seeing the results of individual swim instruction for her daughter at Mason Community Center, a very happy mom sent her thanks. Hi Heather, I just wanted to touch base with you to let you know the progress Emily has made because of the swim lessons she had taken at the Mason Community Center. At the beginning of the summer, Emily did not understand that she needed to keep her mouth closed in the water, much less even swim. After one lesson with Glenna [SwimAmerica coach at Mason Community Center], Emily began to understand she needed to keep her mouth closed in the water. After 2 lessons, she was going under water and loving it! After 5 half-hour lessons, Emily was beginning to move herself in the water by use of her arms and legs in a swimming fashion. After 7 lessons, she was jumping off the side of the pool (without arm floaties) and able to right herself and get her face out of the water! And last week, Emily was in the water with Glenna (without arm floaties) and swam using her arms and legs with her face in the water! I cannot tell you what these lessons have done for Emily this summer! Not only is she exponentially safer in the water, and can enjoy the pool with her sister and peers, she is stronger in her legs and core, which has helped her balance and running. And since she is not able to participate in any contact sports, swimming has provided an excellent means of exercise for Emily. I originally told Heather and Glenna at Mason Community Center that my goals for Emily were that she be able to understand closing her mouth and be able to learn to get her head above water if she went under. It is really amazing what she has learned above and beyond my original goals. It seems Emily loves to be in the water and is able to learn so much!!! Should Paige’s Princess Foundation partner again with the Mason Community Center, if there is ever an opportunity for Emily to take additional lessons, please let me know. We really would love to be able to continue her safety and development in the water with swimming, and to build on what she has learned throughout the colder months. If not, thank you, thank you for providing swim lessons for Emily this summer! It has been a fantastic experience!!! I’ve included a picture of Emily getting ready for swim lessons at the center so you can put a face with a name. Best Regards,

Mason Community Center is proud to partner with Paige’s Princess Foundation to bring inclusive opportunities for all children to the center. Activity Room B Young Rembrandts focuses on teaching children to draw using demonstration and a structured step-by-step process. This method of directed drawing gives students instruction on how to draw increasingly complex images at a crucial time in their development. Through the process of weekly instruction, students are exposed to a wide variety of subject matter, artistic concept, art history, and mastery of their materials.

Pre-School Drawing Designed with the youngest learners in mind. Subjects that youngsters are familiar with, such as animals and toys, are used along with their favorite learning tools—pictures, stories, touching, and doing—to enhance social and conflict resolution skills while improving listening, fine motor skills, and staying on task. Mason’s Post Rehab Program

GOLF

Let our Certified Athletic Trainer help you transition from managed physical therapy to your own exercise program.

Winter Golf Tip Practicing your golf swing over the winter requires determination and creativity. I like to work on my strength and flexibility by losing some weight and adding muscle mass in the off season. This alone will not help your swing, but it will help you avoid injury and play better when the weather breaks.

• -week program • Certified Athletic Trainer guidance • A workout routine specific to your needs • Full membership at Mason Community Center for weeks • No enrollment fee to continue your Community Center membership

To learn more, stop in to talk to our Wellness Supervisior or call ..

Swinging a weighted club will help you maintain your flexibility and improve the strength in your wrists and arms, leading to increased club head speed. Do this in front of a mirror and check your balance at the end of your swing. Always finish with your belt buckle facing the target.

Mason Community Center Mason-Montgomery Road Mason, Ohio .. www.imaginemason.org

Try this over the winter and come springtime, you may find that ten extra yards you have been looking for. Good luck! Head Professional, Golf Center of Kings Island

BASKETBALL

Basketball Court Availability Field House availability will be restricted through mid-March due to the wonderful success of the youth basketball program, now serving around 1,400 Mason first- through twelfth-grade boys and girls. Only one court will be available for member use on days and weekends. No courts will be available on Sundays once the games start in December.

Little Hoops Stars Basketball Gymnasium Introduce your youngster to basketball in this well-organized, funoriented, age-appropriate format. Boys and girls are taught the basics of dribbling, passing, shooting, positioning, defense, and rebounding. Then they apply what they've learned in friendly games. All coaching will be conducted by Jump Start Sports staff coaches. Students will be assigned to play from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. or 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. depending on the number of participants registered and team assignments. Day Tu

Inclement Weather Policy In case of inclement weather, programs at Mason Community Center follow the Mason City School District. If Mason schools are cancelled due to weather, all daytime programming at Mason Community Center, including group exercise classes and swim lessons, are cancelled until late afternoon. At that time, a determination will be made for further cancellations based on road conditions and forecasts. No programs will be delayed or cancelled if Mason schools are on delay. A weather hotline is available at 513.229.8502, option 5, for center closures and cancellations. On weekdays, after the initial cancellation, the hotline is updated by 3 p.m. and as frequently as needed if conditions worsen for evening programs. On weekends, the hotline is updated as needed. Most programs that are cancelled due to weather will be offered a makeup class on the same day of the week and time at the end of the session. If a makeup class is not possible, a refund will be offered. Mason Community Center staff will inform participants by phone or e-mail of their scheduled makeup class. Mason Community Center will not close due to inclement weather unless absolutely necessary, though some services may be limited depending on available staff during bad weather.
