Important Info! First-Come, First-Paid: Space is limited for most of the programs we offer, and registration is accepted on a first-come, first-paid basis. In some instances, a waiting list may be available. MPRD Scholarship Policy: Some of our programs qualify for scholarships. You must show proof of participation in the USD Free/Reduced Lunch program or qualification under Federal Income Availability Guidelines. Camp Refund Policy: Please see page 12 for specific details. Refund Policy for Activities Requiring Registration: Registrants will receive a full refund if we cancel the program, or we may be able to transfer you to another class. A full refund is granted if request to withdraw is received 1 week (7 days) before the class or event start date. A partial refund is issued when requested between 1 week and at least 48 hours before the start date. No refunds will be granted if the request is less than 48 hours in advance or if the participant fails to show. Participant withdrawals must be received during business hours. For specific policies, visit each program’s website. Please note: Some programs have age restrictions and birth dates are required for each participant. Phone numbers are required for staff to access your account and for emergency purposes. Can You Survive? Coming January 25 In 1607, settlers landed in America not knowing the challenges they would face as they built their new home. Take on the life of a colonist in this interactive exhibit by winding your way through a 2,500 square foot maze. The choices you make will determine your fate and if you’re lucky, you just might survive the year. This engaging, hands-on educational adventure is designed for children, families and school groups. It features a zip line, rock climbing wall and more!

Manhattan Parks & Recreation welcomes Derek Ziegenhirt as the new Recreation Coordinator – Youth Sports. Derek, a Council Grove native, most recently worked in minor league baseball for the Chicago Dogs and the Oklahoma City Dodgers. Derek graduated from Wichita State with a bachelors degree in Sport Management in 2015 after playing baseball at both Butler County Community College and Emporia State. YOUTH ADVENTURE CAMPS

K-6TH GRADE

FLINT HILLS DISCOVERY CENTER & SUNSET ZOO ADVENTURE CAMPS School-aged youth (K-6) can join us for a unique day camp offered when USD 383 is not in session. Campers will learn about the plants and animals from their own backyard to around the world while traveling back in time to explore the history, geology, and fossils that make their home unique. Many programs focus on STEM - Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics - as they apply to the Flint Hills. Two grade-specific camps are offered in full and half-day sessions. Class size is limited and enrollment will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Full-day registrants must bring a sack lunch; snacks are provided. Many of our offerings require registration at least one week prior to a class.

REFUND POLICY FOR CLASSES REQUIRING REGISTRATION: Please note the refund policy that is specific to EACH PROGRAM at the time of registration. Preregistration is required, class size is limited, and enrollment is on a first-come, first- served basis. A full refund is granted if cancellation is received one week (seven days) prior to class; partial refund with notification of at least 48 hours before, and no refund if less than 48 hours in advance. Youth may be transferred to different session dates in the event a class is canceled; contact staff to help with this. PERMISSION FORMS: Many of our programs, particularly for youth, require a set of current permission forms to be on file with the facility’s main office. JUNIOR ZOOKEEPER SUMMER PROGRAM

Help care for the zoo’s education animal ambassadors while exploring a whole new career path! Team members will learn respect for animals, life and work skills, while contributing to their community. This volunteer after-school program runs 3:155:15pm Monday through Friday, February 10 through May 1; optional transportation from school to the zoo provided by Z.O.O. Crew Supervisors. Parents can pick up their child at the zoo’s ticket booth no later than 5:30pm. No participation fee; however, a nominal fee applies to students needing transportation from school to the zoo. ZOO TEENS

Upon successful completion of training in the spring, Junior Zookeepers have the opportunity to do regular zookeeper chores in multiple areas of the zoo’s exhibit animal collection and the education animal ambassadors. Multiple training classes will occur in the spring prior to volunteer service. JZKs volunteer two shifts a week in the summer beginning Tuesday, May 26. A $100 registration fee for new JZKs applies. To learn more, attend the JZK Orientation on Saturday, February 1st from 10-11:00am inside Sunset Zoo’s Nature Exploration Center. Parent/guardian and youth must both attend. 14 - 17 yrs Overnight Training: May 2 - 3 12:00pm - 12:00pm Volunteer as a Zoo Teen and get hands-on experience at your community’s zoo. These trained volunteers help educate about animals and conservation, while working with zoo animals. Zoo Teens assist with all aspects of Sunset Zoo’s operations: shadowing staff, animal demonstrations, zoo keeping chores, conservation projects, photography, and much more! You choose the activities that interest you! A $65 registration fee applies and is due on/before the training date. Zoo Teens (new and returning) must attend the scheduled overnight teen training session on May 2-3. Registration is accepted annually until the spring training date. AGES 10-18 JUNIOR INTERNSHIP PROGRAM | 13 - 16 yrs | FREE Junior Interns will be asked to participate in a minimum of five special events - two at Flint Hills Discovery Center (FHDC) and three with Parks & Recreation, as well as join a book club facilitated by staff. Each participant will create interactive youth content for FHDC events and create a program vlog of their experiences. This is a great opportunity for teens to gain experience through volunteering!
