Joslin Street Kotara Local Centre

Objectives When Talking to Local Traders

Local firm Terras Landscape Architects has been commissioned by the City of Newcastle to undertake the development of the urban design aspects of the Kotara Neighbourhood Centre Upgrade. On Tuesday, 21 January 2020, between 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m., Phil Williams and Alana Peddie, will be visiting the centre to inspect the site and to interview local traders. Below is an overview of the project to explain what is happening

Kotara was originally established to create a ‘garden suburb’ with high quality housing. The area developed slowly until 1947, but grew rapidly after this time. There is a suburban atmosphere in Kotara today and the neighbourhood remains consistent with a significant proportion of people living in the same house for more than five years. Joslin Street shops is appreciated by the local community for its convenience and neighbourhood atmosphere. The concept plan (see below) has been developed for the revitalisation of this space. Through further community engagement and Placemaking* we wish to engage your assistance to help deliver a detailed design beneficial to the community and your local businesses.
