3.1 Vision and Objectives

The vision reflects how the City of Penticton and key stakeholders see improved food security in Penticton. It was developed based on general community engagement feedback.

Key objectives which guide the strategies and initiatives to be carried out are as follows. Strategies and initiatives are grouped in Section 3.3 according to objectives.

VISION

Penticton residents have equitable access to appropriate food that they can afford. Indigenous residents and Penticton Indian Band are supported in achieving greater Indigenous food sovereignty. Food producers and processors are supported as part of a resilient, ecologically sustainable, and economically and socially just regional food system.

Ensure Indigenous organizations, Nations, and individuals are supported in their food access priorities and in advancing Indigenous food sovereignty.

Encourage urban agriculture by making Penticton a city where there are opportunities to grow one's own food, in backyards, patios, or communal spaces.

There is a vibrant, diverse farming economy in Penticton which provides viable livelihoods for farmers and contributes to environmental sustainability

Food literacy is increased through knowledge sharing and educational opportunities. Sustainable farming knowledge contributes to more sustainable food systems.
