I hope your summer is filled with opportunities to visit our many parks, trails, pools, and recreation centers. Our dedicated parks and recreation team continues to enhance our community’s quality of life by providing opportunities to improve your health both physically and mentally. We strive to serve all ages and all abilities. We look forward to seeing you out and about and as always, wish you and yours good health. Warmly, Jaime Schroeder Director of Parks and Recreation Program fees are calculated on cost recovery goals and are presented to the Reno City Council on an annual basis. Council approves the fee schedule in May of each year. The fees collected from these programs are not intended for profit. The fees cover the costs of providing necessary supplies and staff to run said programs. Fees and programs are subject to change without notice and may change after this document is published. The City of Reno Parks and Recreation Department reserves the right to make cancellations as deemed necessary and refund accordingly. Reno Parks & Recreation Commission Commission meetings are held on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 6pm. The meetings are hybrid - participants can attend virtually or in person at McKinley Arts & Culture Center. For this reason, a limited fund fee assistance program is available to those who qualify. If you have wanted to participate in our all-day camps, before-and-after school programs or qualified classes but couldn’t because of financial circumstances, we encourage you to apply. Income level, family size, and other criteria determine whether or not fee assistance is awarded. Many families that qualify for a reduced program fee are not taking advantage of the opportunity simply because they haven’t asked to be considered. New, Renovated or Expanded Parks Dick Taylor Park: Installation of a new playground structure is expected to be completed by June of 2023. Reconstruction of the tennis courts is expected to start in the fall of 2022 and is expected to be completed in the spring of 2023. One of the two tennis courts will be converted to four pickleball courts.
Downtown City Plaza and West Street Plaza both experienced renovations during the spring of 2022. Staff removed old, overgrown vegetation, installed new irrigation, and planted over 1300 native, pollinator friendly shrubs, flowers, and grasses.
