新年快樂,恭喜發財!
새해 복 많이 받으세요
Join in the festivities at the City of Ryde Lunar New Year Festival. There is something for all ages with cultural performances, high pole lion dance, market stalls and food trucks. There is plenty to keep the kids entertained with amusement rides, games and face painting and the top of the night a spectacular fireworks display.
Year of the Rabbit
2023 is the Year of the Rabbit – the fourth position of the 12 Chinese Zodiac Animals. Personality traits of people born in the Year of the Rabbit are silly, timid, shy, kind, responsible, curious and high spirited.
Lucky numbers for people born in the Year of the Rabbit are 3, 4 and 6. Years of the Rabbit include 1927, 1939, 1951, 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999, 2011 and 2023.
Year of the Cat
The Cat is the fourth animal symbol in the 12 year cycle of the Vietnamese zodiac, taking place of the Rabbit in the Chinese zodiac. Why Year of the Cat? The most common explanation is the word used for the “rabbit zodiac” (M.o ~ Mẹo) sounds like the Vietnamese word for “cat” (con mèo).
Welcome!
Waste Wise Lunar New Year
As part of the City of Ryde’s commitment to creating a sustainable environment, the Lunar New Year Celebration is designated as a ‘Waste Wise Event’. Council is encouraging the community to minimise waste and recycle what cannot be avoided or reused. Please remember to BYO water bottle, as no plastic water bottles will be on sale from our stallholders.
We also encourage festival goers to BYO re-usable bags and coffee cups. Together we can make a difference.
