INTRODUCTION
Let’s LiveFit Together! With the start of the New Year many of us make resolutions we hope to achieve each year. A good one is to get up and be active. I can’t think of a better way to get fit than with our eight-week LiveFit Southlake Wellness Challenge. This challenge not only helps you achieve a healthier lifestyle, but it’s also a great opportunity to get involved in your community. Here are just some of the many reasons why I love this challenge: 1.
2. 3. 4.
5.
6.
Participation is done completely at your own pace whether it’s done on your own or with family and friends. Throughout the weeks we will have a wide variety of exciting events that are scheduled to not only help you physically, but also make sure that you are knowledgeable about a healthy lifestyle. We kick start this journey with a Walk With The Mayor, and together we will get to know this beautiful town one step at a time. We are bringing back the points and prizes! Be sure to track all of your activities and points for all of the work you put in daily. Over the course of the eight weeks the wellness challenge offers lectures on a wide variety of topics, health screenings, and even CPR certification classes. These are great opportunities to help you learn more about a healthier lifestyle. Don’t forget about our LiveFit Pass! During the challenge the monthly fitness pass will be discounted for all wellness challenge participants. The LiveFit Pass is a great way to get active and a good way to earn points for the challenge. The 5K and Fun Run will be back once again! Don’t forget if you participate in the wellness challenge you can run for FREE. This is our way of thanking you for all the hard work and dedication that you took in becoming a better you.
I’ve been looking forward to joining this year’s challenge and am excited that it is once again upon us. Best of luck to you on your way to finding a way to LiveFit!

GREEN INITIATIVES Keep Southlake Beautiful Keep Southlake Beautiful is a City of Southlake volunteer program dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for Southlake residents through green initiatives and beautification projects. The City relies on our strong volunteer base in order to make these programs a success. For more information on and to find out how you can get involved, visit our website at CityofSouthlake.com/ksb or contact the Community Services Department at (817) 748-8019.
participate in southlake’s
Fall Green Initiatives OCTOBER 1 – DECEMBER 31 Applications are available at CityofSouthlake.com/ksb Street Tree Program. The City of Southlake encourages its residents to Keep Southlake Beautiful by participating in the annual Street Tree Program. Through the Street Tree Program, residents are able to purchase a tree for half price, with the City covering the other half of the cost. The following four (4) varieties of trees are available for purchase through the program: Chinese Pistache, Lacebark Elm, Live Oak and Shumard Oak. Trees will be planted in City right-of-ways in late winter/early spring. The benefits of participating in a Street Tree program are many. Trees enhance the beauty of our community, but they also play a vital role in the health of our environment. Trees improve air quality by filtering out harmful pollutants, provide the oxygen we need to breath, reduce the amount of storm water runoff and provide a natural habitat for many species of wildlife.
NOVEMBER – JANUARY Curbside Leaf Recycling — November 23, December 7, December 21 and January 11. The City of Southlake, in partnership with Republic Services, is pleased to offer another round of curbside leaf recycling this winter. The Leaf Recycling Program gives citizens the opportunity to place their bagged leaves on the curb and have them picked up for recycling rather than ending up in the landfill. During the last Leaf Recycling Program, Southlake residents put green in their routine, and Southlake residents bagged and recycled over 305 tons of leaves! It is important to participate in this program because the tree leaves that accumulate in and around a landscape represent a valuable natural resource that can be used to provide landscaped areas with a good source of organic matter and nutrients.
DECEMBER – JANUARY Christmas Tree Recycling — December 17–January 13. Mulch pickup — January 14–January 20. What should you
YEAR ROUND
do with your Christmas tree after Christmas? Recycle it! By recycling your tree, you save valuable landfill space. Real Christmas trees are biodegradable, which means they can be easily reused or recycled for mulch and other purposes. Through the City of Southlake’s Christmas Tree Recycling Program, residents can drop off their bare trees at Bicentennial Park and the City will turn the trees into wood chips. The environmentally friendly wood chips are made available to residents and can be used as mulch that can be placed in and around flower beds and gardens. During the 2015 program, approximately 652 trees were recycled through the Christmas Tree Recycling Program!
cartridges may be dropped off at the Southlake Public Library, Teen Court Office at DPS Central and the Community Services office in Town Hall.
