Fundamental sport skills are jumping, running, catching, throwing, kicking, swinging, hitting, etc. Learning these skills allow children to play multiple sports with ease. Not learning these skills can lead to a lifelong disconnect to sports and recreation. Once the fundamental sport skills are developed, then children may move on to sport specific skill. An example of a sport specific skill would be learning how to do a backhand in tennis. Research shows that learning a sport specific skill before a fundamental movement skill actually hurts performance ability later. Stages 1, 2, and 3 of LTAD develop physical literacy before puberty so children have the basic skills to be active for life.

Youth Golf Programs

FUNdamentals, Learning to Train

High School Golf team coach Dave Taebel will be providing golf instruction this summer at their annual golf clinic. There is also an option to improve your golf game with beginner playing lessons, the intermediate playing league, and the new advanced league. Accommodations can be made for families with multiple golfers so that their lessons will be at the same time. Players are encouraged to bring their own clubs for all of the programs except SNAG. There’s a limited amount of clubs at Coachman’s to rent.

Our tennis lessons program is intended to develop a love of tennis in your child while working on the FUNdamentals. Young Rembrandts: The Power of Drawing

Active Start, FUNdamentals

At Young Rembrandts we teach drawing, the fundamental skill of all visual arts. We believe that drawing is a skill that can - and should - be learned by all children. While Young Rembrandts classes are structured and educational, children learn best when they are entertained and engaged. Young Rembrandts combines the best of both worlds - foundational art skills in a fun, nurturing environment - that gives your child the academic advantage. New class material each week and each session. All classes will be held at the Stoughton Youth Center. For more information call James at: 608-444-3213 or visit us online: www.youngrembrandts.com

This is a great way for your child to learn stick technique, teamwork, and stay in shape. This is a program to put your child in if they’re in soccer, lacrosse, and baseball as it will help them with spatial awareness (spacing) and hand-eye coordination that will carry over to those sports. Teams will be formed and games will be played each week. This program will also be a great introduction to the fun sport of hockey. Adult Sport & Fitness Classes Zumba Active for Life

Our Zumba classes are taught by certified instructors through Fit Pro Services. Fit Pro Services teach Zumba and other fitness classes in many different locations in Rock and Dane Counties and will be bringing tremendous fitness class experience to Stoughton. It takes the Zumba formula and modifies the moves and pacing to suit the needs of the active older participant, as well as those just starting their journey to a fit and healthy lifestyle. What stays the same are all the elements the Zumba Fitness-Party is known for: the zesty Latin music, like salsa, merengue, cumbia and reggaeton; the exhilarating, easy-to-follow moves; and the invigorating, party-like atmosphere.
