What is the Friendly Visitor Program?

The Friendly Visitor Program connects homebound or isolated older adults with compassionate volunteers to provide needed support and encouragement, through friendly home visits or participation in social activities.

Reading / Writing Crafts / Art / Sewing / Quilting Cards, Board Games, Puzzles Outdoor Activities, Gardening Exercise, Sports Cooking Music

Benefits of the Friendly Visitor Program For the program recipient  Adds an essential component to healthy aging –social connection! Provides a link to the community.

Who do Friendly Visitors visit? Friendly Visitors are matched with older adults who receive case management services through the Stoughton Area Senior Center. Recipients are homebound or isolated individuals 55 years of age or older, who still live independently in their home.

For the Stoughton Area Senior Center  Enhances the Case Manager’s ability to provide _direct assistance to isolated community members.  Expands the awareness of community needs. For the Friendly Visitor Volunteer  Provides local connections, with flexible hours.  An opportunity to share your skills and interests.  Provides a rewarding experience.  Initial training and on-going professional support.

Want to become a Friendly Visitor? Volunteers receive initial training and ongoing support from Stoughton Area Senior Center staff so they may provide positive, increased social support to the older adults with whom they are matched. Volunteer matches are based on shared interests, personality, geography and volunteer availability.
