A Tribute to Bill Malone Sun. Sept. 15 • 5:30 pm
Bill Malone, host of Back to the Country on WORT 89.9 FM, is regarded as the leading historian of country music. He’s literally written the book on it (Country Music USA). Doug Moe once said that having Bill Malone volunteer as a host for a community radio station is like having Meryl Streep perform Community Theater. Bill turned 85 in August and has spent the last few years working with Ken Burns on the multi-part documentary, Country Music. He is the only historian Ken used for the series! Join us for an intimate evening with Bill and Bobbie Malone. Hear about Bill’s experience working with Ken Burns and other highlights from his life; enjoy live music from Chris Plata with Extra Hot as well as The Dirty Shirts.
Proceeds from this event benefit WORT Community Radio. Following this event, attendees can remain for a big screen showing of the first episode of the Country Music documentary. If there are seats available at that point, they will be offered for free. www.wortfm.org

Edgar Knecht Jazz Trio Tues. Sept. 17 • 7:30 pm
Edgar Knecht is a professionally studied pianist and composer. In the course of a highly successful career, this ‘piano sensation,’ who was already concertizing at the age of fourteen, arrived at a musical sujet that has developed into his own personal language. In an entirely unique manner, Knecht combined jazz and folk tunes from a variety of sources with folksongs of his native Germany. He succeeded in reviving wonderful old songs, which had been almost forgotten because of the difficult times in German history. “An essential aspect of what I do is exposing my own musical roots. Whilst this is common in other cultures, in Germany it’s not easy to use folk songs because of our special history“ the Kassel-born musician explains. Together with Rolf Denecke on upright bass and Tobias Schulte on percussion, Knecht has gained a world-wide reputation with his unique brand of music. www.edgarknecht.de
Lee Ann Womack Thur. Sept. 26 • 7:30 pm
Artists don’t really make albums like Lee Ann Womack’s The Lonely, The Lonesome, and the Gone anymore. Albums that seem to exist separate and apart from any external pressures. Albums that possess both a profound sense of history and a clear-eyed vision for the future. Albums that transcend genres while embracing their roots. Albums that evoke a sense of place and of personality so vivid they make listeners feel more like participants in the songs than simply admirers of them. The Lonely, The Lonesome & The Gone is her most personal album to date, marking the culmination of a journey that began with her 2005 CMA Album of the Year, There’s More Where That Came From, toward an authentic American music that celebrates her roots and adds to the canon. www.leeannwomack.com
“Her startling precision is matched only by her passion, a combination that lends even the slightest quaver in her voice an emotional resonance that would be lost on lesser talents.” —NPR Music
Carsie Blanton Fri. Sept. 27 • 7:30 PM
New Orleans’ genre-stretching folk-rock mischief-maker, Carsie Blanton, writes songs fraught with humor and poignancy inspired by musicians as diversly rich as Ray Charles and Joni Mitchell; The Beatles and Erykah Badu; Nick Lowe, Tom Waits, Dolly Parton and Billie Holiday. With healthy doses of moxie and spice, Blanton revs up a spirited night. www.carsieblanton.com
“Her smoky vocals recall Nina Simone and Billie Holiday, while her wit as a songwriter is in the spirit of Cole Porter.” —NPR
Shook Twins Sat. Sept. 28 • 7:30 pm
Everybody in your life will write his or her own chapter in your story. Take a step back, and you’ll see the influence of your loved ones, mentors, and friends in your decisions. Shook Twins refer to these folks in the title of their fourth album, Some Good Lives. Over the course of three full-length releases and a handful of EPs since 2008, acclaim would come to the Shook Twins by way of everyone from USA Today and Baeble Music to Langhorne Slim, The Lumineers, Mason Jennings, and iconic best-selling author Neil Gaiman who enthusiastically decreed, “They make music that twines through your soul the way vines cover an abandoned shack in the woods.” Beyond gigs with the likes of Gregory Alan Isakov and Ani DiFranco, they captivated crowds at High Sierra Music Festival, Lightning In A Bottle, Bumbershoot, Hulaween, Summer Camp Music Festival, and many more. www.shooktwins.com

A showcase of some of Madison’s finest jazz musicians featuring the Jon Hoel Trio, Barbacoa, and the Gerri DiMaggio World Jazz Unit. With genres ranging from traditional vocal swing to modern avant garde to funk, there is something for everyone to enjoy.
The Accidentals Thur. Oct. 3 • 7:30 pm
Named among Yahoo Music’s “Top 10 Bands to Watch in 2017,” The Accidentals’ adventure began in their hometown of Traverse City, MI, when Larson, a sophomore cellist, and Buist, a junior violinist, were paired for a high school orchestra event. The gifted young musicians became fast friends and before long, bandmates. Having both grown up in musical families with professional pianists for fathers and vocalists for mothers, their shared influences bounced between classical, jazz, bluegrass, country, alt-rock, and the obscure. The goal as ever is to experiment and experience, exploring new ideas and approaches while always staying true to their roots. With their third album release, Odyssey, The Accidentals have conjured a truly one of its kind sound and vision, booming with free-thinking musicality, wisdom, and an understanding that growth is a process, not something that happens overnight. The Accidentals are already moving forward on their amazing journey, rolling down the windows on an open road towards someplace that’s both true and transcendent. www.theaccidentalsmusic.com

Barbacoa is an instrumental R&B quartet featuring some of the most sought after musicians in the Madison, WI area. The band consists of Tony Barba-tenor saxophone, Mike Cammilleri-Hammond organ, Richard Hildner on electric guitar, and Chris Sandoval-drums www.barbacoaband.com Featuring Ben Ferris on bass and Kelby Kryshak on drums, the Jon Hoel Trio is one of Madison’s hardest working jazz groups. Playing originals and seldom played standards, the group focuses on exploring the jazz idiom, sometimes pushing the limits and other times staying deep in the pocket. They have performed at the Catfish River Music Festival, Orton Park Festival, and the Greater Madison Jazz Consortium’s Strollin’ series. www.jonathanhoel.com Gerri DiMaggio World Jazz Unit—With the sound of a nightclub singer right out of a 1940’s film noir, Gerri DiMaggio evokes romantic nostalgia with a modern edge. Her expressive singing, warm earthiness, and emotional insight, prove that she is a true believer in the power of storytelling. Her show is a sultry mix of songs from the American Songbook with a modern edge, to Brazilian Jazz with a seductive sound that invites the audience into her own creative and colorful world. www.gerridimaggio.com
Susan Werner Sat. Oct. 5 • 7:30 pm
After writing twelve albums of songs in styles ranging from folk/rock to Tin Pan Alley to gospel, country and chamber music, what might a woman deemed by National Public Radio as “The Empress of the Unexpected” try next? As audiences will testify, Susan Werner has been knocking it out of the park – or concert hall – all around the US for twenty years. Renowned as a charismatic performer, she’s known above all for challenging herself to conquer new styles, almost like mountaintops, every few years. “Always an impressive songHer songs have been recorded by Tom Jones and writer, Werner continues to Michael Feinstein, Broadway stars Betty Buckley and Christine Ebersole, and countless individuals compose sharp, funny, comand ensembles. But Werner says she’s just getting passionate lyrics, a gift rare started: “I just released an album of songs inspired by a trip to Cuba. And I’ve always wanted to go to enough to set her apart…” Scotland – hey, maybe I could learn the bagpipes. — The Washington Post It’s not impossible...is it?” www.susanwerner.com

Emo Philips
Guy Weatherspoon supports Thur. Oct. 10 • 7:30 pm
Described by Jay Leno as the best joke writer in America, by British comedian Gary Delaney as the best joke writer in the world, and by “Weird Al” Yankovic as one of the funniest people on the planet, Emo Philips has performed over 6000 times throughout the Englishspeaking world, including a multi-week run “He is the velociraptor of at the Playhouse Theater in London’s West End. Since starting out in Chicago in 1976 at the age comedy: smart, sneaky of twenty, Emo has had award-winning comedy and merciless.” albums, several cable specials (including an hourlong one on HBO), and many appearances on —Star Tribune network television, both in America and in the UK. He has appeared in films (most notably, as the table-saw demonstrator in UHF) and has lent his distinctive voice to animated TV shows (such as Slacker Cats, Doctor Katz, Adventure Time, and Home Movies), but his first love, stand-up, remains his true one. www.emophilips.com An eccentric turtleneck wearing keytarist, Guy Weatherspoon weaves a theatrical approach into his live performances. He combines imaginative and sometimes comedic lyrics with classic 80’s and modern synthesizers to create a variety of textures ranging from shredding leads, gentle ballads, avantgarde atmospheres, to fairytale sparkles. www.facebook.com/guyweatherspoonband/

Kaki King
Oct. 1: Avanti Piano Trio
Composed of piano, violin, and cello, the Avanti Piano Trio out of Madison are well on their way into the vast and beautiful world of piano trio repertoire.
The Neck is a Bridge to the Body Sat. Oct. 12 • 7:30 pm
Kaki King’s groundbreaking new work, “The Neck Is A Bridge To The Body”, is an innovative, immersive, multimedia production. Hailed by Rolling Stone as “a genre unto herself,” Kaki King is a true iconoclast, a visionary musician/artist whose singular work rightly stands out amongst the easily formatted. Over her decade-long career thus far, the Brooklyn-based guitarist/composer has recorded five extraordinarily diverse and distinctive LPs, performed with such icons as Foo Fighters, Timbaland, and The Mountain Goats, contributed to a variety of film and TV soundtracks, and played to ever-growing audiences on innumerable world tours. Each twist and veer marked the turning of a page, another step forward on a truly exceptional musical path. Beginning with 2002’s Everybody Loves You – to date, her only fully acoustic guitar recording – King has expanded and reconceived the role of the solo instrumental artist, constantly kicking at the boundaries of what’s expected. www.kakiking.com
“Not every musician can openly say they are carving new paths or truly doing something new... but Kaki is one of those musicians.” —Onstage Review

Anaïs Mitchell Thur. Oct. 17 • 7:30 pm
Creator of Hadestown, 2019 Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Anaïs Mitchell is a Vermont and Brooklyn-based singersongwriter who comes from the world of narrative folksong, poetry and balladry. She recorded for Ani Difranco’s Righteous Babe Records for several years before starting her own Wilderland label in 2012. Among her recorded works are six full-length albums, including 2010’s sensationally-reviewed Hadestown, a folk opera based on the Orpheus myth; 2012’s Young Man in America, which was described by the UK’s Independent as ‘an epic tale of American becoming’; and 2013’s Child Ballads, a collaboration with Jefferson Hamer, which won a BBC Radio Two Folk Award. Mitchell has headlined shows worldwide as well as supporting tours for Bon Iver, Ani Difranco, Patty Griffin, Josh Ritter and Punch Brothers. She was the winner of a Folk Alliance 2018 Spirit of Folk Award. Mitchell’s stage show of Hadestown, which was over a decade in the making, was first produced off-Broadway at New York Theatre Workshop and in Canada at Edmonton’s The Citadel, with record-breaking runs at both. In 2018 the show opened at London’s prestigious National Theatre, before transferring to Broadway at the Walter Kerr Theatre in April 2019. The musical has garnered rave reviews. The New York Times called it “inventive, beguiling and spellbinding” while Vogue announced that “Hadestown will be your new theater obsession.” If there’s a common thread in Mitchell’s work – from her earliest acoustic records to the Hadestown show – it’s that she’s as interested in the world around her as the one inside her. She has a way of tackling big themes with the same emotional intimacy most artists use to describe their inner lives. That’s perhaps why the New York Times noted that her songs “address contemporary angst with uncanny vision…a formidable songwriting talent.” www.anaismitchell.com
“Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell’s bluesy and stylish show based on a Greek myth about a smitten young man who tries to rescue his lover from hell, captured the grand prize at the Tony Awards on Sunday night, winning best musical and seven other trophies, for direction, score, lighting, sound, supporting actor, orchestrations and set design.” —Washington Post

Harry Manx
Fri. Oct. 18 • 7:30 pm Harry Manx has been called an “essential link” between the music of East and West, creating musical short stories that wed the tradition of the Blues with the depth of classical Indian ragas. He has created a unique sound that is hard to forget and deliciously addictive to listen to. Harry forged his distinctive style by studying at the feet of the masters, first as a sound man in the blues clubs of Toronto and then under a rigorous tutelage with Vishwa Mohan Bhatt in India. Bhatt is the inventor of the 20-stringed Mohan Veena, which has become Harry’s signature instrument. Harry played slide guitar for many years before meeting Bhatt in Rajasthan, in fact he had been living in another part of India for many years already, but he started at the beginning under Bhatt’s tutelage, unlearning most of what he knew about playing a slide instrument. He learned Eastern scales and eventually ragas, deceptively complex and regimented musical patterns that form the basis of Indian composition. Learning the voicings of Indian music is a subtle art that comes with time. Harry spent most of twelve years in India learning that. It was later on that Harry decided to explore the connection between Indian ragas and blues scales which eventually led to the Indo-blues hybrid that has become his style. www.harrymanx.com
“Whether performing originals or an arrangement of a Hendrix or Springsteen tune, all of the musical elements serve to support his smoky, soulful vocals, and transport the listener to the quasi-hypnotic state his fans refer to as the ‘Harry Zone.’” —Guitar Player

Sat. Oct. 19 • 7:30 pm The Trackless Woods, DeMent’s sixth studio album, is unlike anything else in her illustrious career. Beginning with her 1992 debut, Infamous Angel, which was hailed as “an essential album of the 1990’s” by Rolling Stone, DeMent released a series of stellar records that established her as “one of the finest singer-songwriters in America” according to The Guardian. The music earned her multiple Grammy nominations, as well as the respect of peers like John Prine, Steve Earle, and Emmylou Harris, who all invited her to collaborate. Merle Haggard dubbed her “the best singer I’ve ever heard” and asked her to join his touring band, and David Byrne and Natalie Merchant famously covered her “Let The Mystery Be” as a duet on MTV Unplugged. DeMent returned in 2012 with her most recent album, Sing The Delta, which prompted NPR to call her “one of the great voices in contemporary popular music” and The Boston Globe to hail the collection as “a work of rare, unvarnished grace and power.” www.irisdement.com Hailed as a “self-styled poetess, folk goddess and country waif” by the BBC, Pieta Brown first came to international attention with her 2002 self-titled debut. Pieta has since been recognized by NPR for her “moody, ethereal” songwriting, applauded by The Boston Globe for her “mercurial voice” and has continued to gain wide-spread critical attention for both her singing and songwriting with each release. Wall Street Journal, American Songwriter, and Amazon have all included her albums in year-end, ‘best-of’ picks. And along the way she has shared stages with everyone from Emmylou Harris and JJ Cale to Neko Case and Richard Thompson, in addition to performing at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Mountain Jam. But maybe even more importantly, to a fiercely independent artist like Pieta, she has received praise and support from many of her fellow artists and mentors - Justin Vernon, Iris Dement, Mark Knopfler, Amos Lee, producer Don Was, and film-maker Wim Wenders to name a few. www.pietabrown.com

Richard Thompson Solo Acoustic —TWO SHOWS! Wed. Oct. 23 & Thurs. Oct. 24 • 7:30 pm
In 2017, Ivor Novello Award-winning and Grammy Award-nominated legend Richard Thompson gave himself up to the music itself. Picking up a guitar, emotions echoed through his deft fleet-fingered fretwork, poetic songwriting, impassioned picking. Those transmissions comprise his nineteenth solo album, 13 Rivers. In many ways, his career has pointed towards such a statement. Powered by evocative songcraft, jaw-dropping guitar playing, and indefinable spirit, this venerable icon holds a coveted spot on Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time” and counts a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Americana Music Association in Nashville, and a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBC Awards among his many accolades. 2011 saw Thompson garner an OBE (Order of the British Empire) personally bestowed upon him by Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace. Moreover, Time touted his anthem, “1952 Vincent Black Lightning,” on its “100 Greatest Songs Since 1923” list. Thompson’s influence can’t be overstated. Everybody from Robert Plant, Don Henley, and Elvis Costello to REM, Sleater-Kinney and David Byrne has covered his music. www.richardthompson-music.com

Pokey LaFarge Solo Fri. Oct. 25 • 7:30 pm
Day after day, pencil in hand, always dressed in blue. Never feeling satisfied. Itchy. Incomplete. Attired halfway between a businessman and a janitor, Pokey LaFarge tries to make sense of trouble he’s seen and trouble he’s been in. This is the Great Why of his unending passion for songwriting. An unquenchable need to be heard in a world where everyone is talking and nobody is listening. The songs on Pokey’s transformative new album Manic Revelations demand your attention. Here, you get the feeling this man is constantly reshuffling the deck in favor of some outcome or other. Each chord, each riff shades the stories he sets up in his lyrics. But make no mistake – no matter how the cards lay, he is searching for the purest truth; he loves laying in the muck. Whatever it takes to serve the song. He wouldn’t know what to do if his life were any other way. www.pokeylafarge.net
A multi-ethnic Latin pop songstress, Gina Chavez is a 10-time Austin Music Award winner. Fresh off a 10-country tour as a cultural ambassador with the U.S. State Department, Chavez’s passionate collection of bilingual songs take audiences on a journey through the Americas, blending the sounds and rhythms of the region with tension and grace. Her Spanish-language anthem, “Siete-D” (Grand Prize winner of the 2014 John Lennon Songwriting Contest) recounts her experience volunteering in a gang-dominated suburb of San Salvador where she is a co-founder of The Niñas Arriba College Fund for young Latinas. www.ginachavez.com

Rhiannon Giddens with Francesco Turrisi—TWO SHOWS! Sat. Nov. 2 • 7:30 pm & Sun. Nov. 3 • 3:00 pm
Rhiannon Giddens is the co-founder of the Grammy Award-winning string band Carolina Chocolate Drops, in which she also plays banjo and fiddle. She began gaining recognition as a solo artist when she stole the show at the T Bone Burnett-produced “Another Day, Another Time” concert at New York City’s Town Hall in 2013. The elegant bearing, prodigious voice and fierce spirit that brought the audience to its feet that night is also abundantly evident on Giddens’ critically acclaimed solo debut, the Grammy-nominated album, Tomorrow Is My Turn, which masterfully blends American musical genres like gospel, jazz, blues and country, showcasing her extraordinary emotional range and dazzling vocal prowess. Giddens’ follow-up album, Freedom Highway, was released in February 2017. It includes nine original songs Giddens wrote or co-wrote along with a traditional song and two civil rights-era songs, “Birmingham Sunday” and Staple Singers’ well-known “Freedom Highway,” from which the album takes its name. www.rhiannongiddens.com Francesco Turrisi has been defined a “musical alchemist” and a “musical polyglot” by the press. He left his native Italy in 1997 to study jazz piano and early music at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, where he obtained a Bachelor and a Master’s degree. Turrisi has released four critically acclaimed albums as a leader and two as co-leader (Tarab and Zahr) on Diatribe records and on his own label Taquin records. His latest album, Grigio, features Sean Nos singer Roisin El Safty, early music singer Clara Sanabras and percussion virtuoso Zohar Fresco. The album was described as “Lyrical, sensitively assembled and beautifully sung” by John Fordham in a review for The Guardian. www.francescoturrisi.com

The fact that Texas music titans Joe Ely, Jimmie Dale Gilmore and Butch Hancock - on their first go-round as The Flatlanders in 1972 - were completely rejected by the country music establishment is surprising in retrospect but, ultimately, poetic. That each went on to have formidable solo careers is a testament to their talent and determination. Add to this their diverse yet complimentary styles - Joe the street-wise rocker, Jimmie Dale the mystic with the classic country voice and Butch the cerebral folk singer - and you’ve got the story of one of the most extraordinary kinships in American musical history. www.theflatlanders.com

Che Apalache Wed. Nov. 13 • 7:30 pm
Che Apalache is a four-man string band based in Buenos Aires with members from Argentina, Mexico and the United States. With a style that mixes South American music and Bluegrass they call Latingrass, Che Apalache’s repertoire ranges from vivid Latin rhythms to a-cappella mountain gospel songs sung in four-part harmony. The group’s founder, Joe Troop (fiddle), is a North Carolina-born multi-instrumentalist, singer-songwriter, and composer who moved to Argentina in 2010. While patiently carving out a niche in the local music scene, Joe taught bluegrass and old-time music for a living. That’s how he met Pau Barjau (banjo), Franco Martino (guitar) and Martin Bobrik (mandolin), his most dedicated students. They quickly became picking buddies and in 2013 decided to form Che Apalache and hit the stage. Che Apalache began as a bluegrass band, but eventually incorporated Latin American styles into their repertoire. Combining instrumental prowess with tight vocal harmonies, they have created an authentic blend of genres to reflect the nature of their lives. Evoking images from Appalachia to the Andes, their debut album, Latingrass, is a testament to a powerful cultural and musical exchange. www.cheapalache.com

As a singer and mandolinist, Sierra Hull boasts a resume more noteworthy than most accomplish in a lifetime. The former child prodigy signed with Rounder at 13 and has traveled around the world sharing her music, playing rooms such as the White House, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center. Berklee gave her the school’s most prestigious award, the Presidential Scholarship (a first for a bluegrass musician), and most recently she has released Weighted Mind, her long-anticipated fourth album, on which her ethereal voice and fluid playing take center stage. Though she is best known for her work as a mandolin player, in this album of loss and restoration, Hull reveals her abundant gifts as a composer and lyricist. On stage, Hull shows us how versatile the roots of Bluegrass and Americana can be. Using her increasingly iconic voice and expert mandolin playing, she and fellow musicians make contemporary music, undoubtedly rooted in traditional Bluegrass, and growing into a genre all its own. www.sierrahull.com

Over the course of 25 years and ten albums, The Subdudes have quietly become one of America’s national music treasures. The group is a living encapsulation of American music, a vibrant cauldron of sounds that stirs together meaty grooves and jazzy dynamics, soulful R&B swagger, easy vocal harmonies, cheeky rock ‘n’ roll attitude, and folky social consciousness — not to mention some of the sharpest musicianship and ensemble playing you’ll ever hear from any five musicians. Led by singer/guitarist Tommy Malone and accordionist John Magnie, the Subdudes came together in 1989 after backing artists such as Joni Mitchell and Rosanne Cash. Drawing most of their inspiration from the sounds of their native New Orleans and blending blues, gospel, funk, and R&B with their own harmony vocals, the Subdudes are also notable for the substitution of a tambourine player, Steve Amedée, for a drummer. Tim Cook rounds out the band on bass. www.subdudes.com

In addition to familiar-to-fans harmonies, The Steel Wheels ventured a little farther out of their known comfort zone for Over The Trees. “This is a bit of an experimental record at times, with new sounds and influences,” Wagler says. “We know where we come from. We are a string band from Virginia, but we are evolving with this album, and we are embracing the future.” www.thesteelwheels.com

Taj Mahal Trio Thur. Apr. 23 • 7:30 pm
In September 2014, some 50 years after moving to Los Angeles to form the band Rising Sons with fellow blues musician Ry Cooder and Jessie Lee Kincaid, Taj Mahal hightailed it to Nashville to receive an honor he called “one of the most powerful and wonderful things that could ever happen in my life.” Celebrating decades of recording and touring that have nearly singlehandedly reshaped the definition and scope of the blues via the infusion of exotic sounds from the Caribbean, Africa and South Pacific, the two-time Grammy winning singer, songwriter, film composer, guitarist and multi-instrumentalist was feted with the Lifetime Achievement for Performance Award at the 13th Annual Americana Honors and Awards. www.tajblues.com
Classics can become cliches. And cliches, like whiskey, nostalgia, and orthodoxy, will deaden the mind. We can’t learn from what we know. It doesn’t work that way. But if what we know morphs and changes, and whittles itself down to truthful essence, then we can find delight and inspiration. That’s what’s going on here, in Rodney Crowell’s most unusual of retrospectives. Grammy winner Rodney Crowell explores his Lone Star roots with songs from his August, 2019 release Texas recorded with an eclectic cast of all-star friends--Willie Nelson, Lyle Lovett, Ronnie Dunn, Billy F Gibbons, Randy Rogers, Vince Gill, Lee Ann Womack, Steve Earle, Ringo Starr and more. These are songs he wants to sing and play, performed as he wants to sing and play them. We never know which friends Crowell will bring on tour with him, but history proves that you’ll be coming away renewed in your reverence for one of Country Music’s greatest songwriters, and a new fan of any artist he brings out on stage with him. www.rodneycrowell.com

Kruger Brothers Sat. May 9 • 7:30 pm
Born and raised in Europe, brothers Jens and Uwe Kruger started singing and playing instruments at a very young age. Growing up in a family where music was an important part of life, they were exposed to a wide diversity of musical influences. The brothers were performing regularly by the time they were eleven and twelve years old, and they began their professional career in 1979. Since their formal introduction to American audiences in 1997, The Kruger Brothers’ remarkable discipline, creativity and their ability to infuse classical music into folk music has resulted in a unique sound that has made them a fixture within the world of acoustic music. In their ever-expanding body of work – Jens Kruger (banjo and vocals), Uwe Kruger (guitar and lead vocals), and Joel Landsberg (bass and vocals) – The Kruger Brothers personify the spirit of exploration and innovation that forms the core of the American musical tradition. www.krugerbrothers.com If you are looking for restaurants before or after the shows, we encourage you to visit these fine establishments who support the Stoughton Opera House by advertising in this guide!
