Greeti ngs! As City Manager, I’m excited to share with you our latest Program Guide that showcases all of the wonderful acti viti es taking place across our City this fall and winter, courtesy of our Library, Parks & Recreati on, and Tourism Departments. The incredible programs outlined in the pages ahead remind us that it’s a great ti me to be outdoors and take in the beauti ful scenery that Suff olk has to off er. Suff olk’s four regional parks include Lone Star Lakes Park, Bennett ’s Creek Park, Sleepy Hole Park, and Lake Meade Park, and all lend themselves to outdoor fun and exhilarati ng acti viti es that include biking, canoeing, kayaking, disc golf, fi shing, hiking, skateboarding and more! The change of season also brings with it several accompanying celebrati ons and holidays. Downtown’s Taste of Suff olk Street Festi val truly provides a “fl avor” of what makes our City so special, with independent restaurants presenti ng their signature menu items in smaller porti ons at nominal prices, a Beer Garden showcasing local craft brews, eclecti c art, live music, and children’s fun area … just to name a few! Our Tour Program features a variety of guided tours, with something for history buff s, nature lovers, adventurers, and even for those folks seeking the “supernatural” side of Suff olk! You can follow a costumed guide through the shadows of historic Main Street discovering legends and “unexplained occurrences” by lantern light, or spooky thrills at Suff olk Library’s Haunti ng @ Chuckatuck: A Haunted House Adventure. Don’t miss Friday Night Frights, which provides the opportunity to see classic movies on the big screen! Experience the magic of the season at the evening Holiday Parade, or create new family traditi ons at the Festi val of Lights. And don’t forget about the many, many opportuniti es to meet with jolly ole Saint Nick! Get all your holiday shopping needs done at the Arti san Gift Fair and Farmers’ Market for special, unique gift s and items to create memorable meals including locally grown produce, baked goods, meats and eggs, jellies, jams, honey, and so much more!
For the performing arts enthusiasts, the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts is excited to host one of only twelve major U.S. performances of the world-renowned Kyiv City Ballet. Enjoy the live performances as they grace the stage at the Suff olk Center with “A Tribute to Peace:” Ukrainian Repertoire and the ti meless ballet classic, Swan Lake. And for those who want to enjoy at-home family ti me, we’ve got something for you too! Check out the many virtual acti viti es and to-go acti vity kits available for pick-up at our library locati ons.
