News Release: Soroptimist® Club Grants $10,000 March 15, 2021 Contact: Josette Lacey (925)818-0180 or siovjo@hotmail.com The Soroptomist Club of Vallejo is proud to announce that they have granted a total of $10,000 to four women for this year’s Live Your Dream: Education and Training Awards for Women, and including the Violet Richardson Award. The Live Your Dream Awards provide financial grants to women who have overcome obstacles and are working hard to get their lives back on track in order to build a better life for themselves and their families through education and skills training. The Violet Richardson Award honors young women in our community between the ages of 14 and 18 for volunteer action such as fighting drugs, crime and violence, cleaning up the environment and working to end discrimination and poverty.
This year’s Live Your Dream awards winners were celebrated in a Virtual Ceremony on Saturday, March 13th. Each has made the choice to to meet their goals through continued education and various degrees in Behavior Science, Radiology Sciences, and Healthcare Administration.
Each year, more than $2.5 million in education grants are awarded by Soroptomist International to nearly 1,700 women who have overcome obstacles such as poverty, violence, teen pregnancy, addiction, mental health issues, or the death of a family member. Live Your Dream Awards recipients may use the cash award to offset costs associated with their efforts to attain education, such as books, childcare, tuition and transportation.
Soroptimist is a global volunteer organization that provides women and girls with access to the education and training they need to achieve economic empowerment.
