message from mike Hello, Vallejo, As a proud U.S. Navy Veteran, I salute all those who have served our country! I wish all families a safe holiday, honoring those who sacrifice so much for our freedom.

Vallejo Weekly

On Tuesday night, you may have noticed the link on the City website was not working to virtually join the City Council meeting. Right before the Council meeting started, we realized we were partially zoom bombed by three users trying to disrupt the meeting. At next week’s City Council meeting, we will be discussing what to do with the remote option of watching/participating in the City Council meetings. Please share your thoughts on this at the Council meeting. A survey recently sent out by local agencies statewide shows an overwhelming number of agencies that have chosen to stop offering virtual participation in the meetings due to the reprehensible behavior by some participants. Your input will assist City Council in determining what happens here in Vallejo. I am also happy to report there has been positive movement forward with contract negotiations with the Vallejo Police Officers’ Association. Respectfully, Mike Malone Vallejo City Manager

LITTER PICKING – A SURPRISINGLY FUN GROUP ACTIVITY

Vallejo Weekly

Do you have a favorite project or initiative that the community could easily adopt? Something that has made a difference in your block and made things a little bit better? Here are a few groups that are making a difference in their neighborhood:

1

On October 14th the Washington Park Neighborhood Association met the Community Tool Trailer staff driver after completing their monthly Alley Clean Up. This group, led by volunteers Patrick Gaul & Sarah Kirley, have adopted each alley running through their neighborhood. In 2023 the group met the first Saturday of each month to rotate into each alley. The morning of October 21st found Solano Sunset Rotary Club meeting at the Admiral Callaghan Grocery Outlet parking lot to conduct a Quarterly Community Clean Up service project. The group has already scheduled Quarterly Clean Ups for 2024, too! Led by President Drake Rankin, the focus of the day was

the parking lot and area around our wonderful, generous community partners at Grocery Outlet, owners Rajahnique and Sababu Jones. Sunday, November 5th, neighbors from the Vallejo Heights Neighborhood Association gathered at the MIRA Theatre for an inaugural Community Clean Up organized by Luciana Guerrero-Shibatsuji, a local event planner and resident of Bay Terrace. The Community Tool Trailer is available by reservation for volunteers. Stocked with all the supplies needed to clean up litter and bulky items, the Public Works driver who brings the trailer out is happy to load up all the collected trash to dispose of at the City of Vallejo Corp yard. To reserve the Community Tool Trailer with a minimum of two weeks notice, please click here. For questions about the program please email volunteers@cityofvallejo.net

Vallejo Weekly

Introducing, Gwen! She is an approximately 3-year-old Aussie Shepherd/hound mix who is SO ready to be part of your active family! Gwen is highly affectionate with people and interacts nicely with other dogs. Gwen has plenty of energy for walks and hikes as long as she ends the day with a good long, snuggle sesh. She likes to play fetch and knows how to sit and shake — especially for a treat. (She's always up for treats!) Her affectionate, wiggly personality will make her right at home with adults and older children and up. To meet Gwen, go to HSNB.org and fill out a dog adoption interest application.

HUMANE SOCIETY PETs OF THE WEEK WINNIE American Pit Bull Terrier, Female, Senior

Vallejo Weekly

This dreamy girl is pretty in pink and even prettier in person! Winnie is a lovely 8-year-old Pit Bull mix who forms deep bonds with her favorite people. She is a highly independent, determined lady who walks nicely on leash. And when "Queen Winnie" has had enough, she will let you know by parking her cute little caboose and refusing to budge! It's not unusual to see a shelter staff member coaxing this royal cutie back to her kennel with a treat or two. To provide this queen with her very own forever castle, go to HSNB.org and fill out a dog interest application.
