ANDREW'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER
Hello Vallejo,
As we celebrate National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15-October 15) in the City, please enjoy all the activities this weekend, including Fiesta Patrias and the Flights and Light Bites Festival on Saturday. You’ll find flyers for these and many other events in this edition of the Weekly.
In remembrance of 9/11, I also want to thank our first responders with the Vallejo Fire Department and Police Department for their hard work and dedication in keeping the community safe.
On Tuesday, the Vallejo Police Department gave a presentation to City Council on how it expects staffing levels to change over the coming years. The Department has reversed the trend of declining staffing and is beginning to increase staffing at a modest but steady pace. The Department is also exploring many options to supplement its own staffing, including a potential partnership with the Sheriff’s Office. If you were instead enthralled by the Presidential Debate last Tuesday and didn’t catch the presentation or Council meeting, here is a link to the video of the meeting https://vallejoca.portal.civicclerk.com/event/2772/media.
Also during Tuesday’s Council meeting, the City Council received public comment regarding the many pop-up food stands that are occurring around town. City staff will bring forward a sidewalk vending ordinance for City Council’s consideration and will also develop a multi-pronged strategy to address some of the issues created by pop-up food stands. City staff will reach out to key stakeholders to gain input while formulating the strategy.
We are aware of the many pressing issues facing the City and thank you for your patience as we work through them in a diligent, fair, and thoughtful manner.
With appreciation, Andrew Murray
Vallejo City Manager

VALLEJO FIRE DEPARTMENT FIRST TO ADMINISTER LIFE-SAVING TXA IN SOLANO COUNTY
VALLEJO, CA - The City of Vallejo and Vallejo Fire Department are proud to announce that our Firefighter Paramedics are the first medical professionals in Solano County to administer Tranexamic Acid (TXA), a groundbreaking medication used to reduce uncontrolled bleeding in trauma patients. Introduced at the end of August 2024, TXA has already been successfully administered three times, with each case yielding positive results.
TXA works by stabilizing blood clots, preventing excessive blood loss in patients with severe injuries. Its timely administration can be critical in improving patient outcomes, giving trauma victims a better chance of survival during transport to local area hospitals. The Vallejo Fire Department’s use of TXA marks a significant leap forward in emergency medical care within the region.
Fire Chief Drayton stated, “We are incredibly proud to be the first in Solano County to administer TXA. This life-saving drug enhances the advanced care our paramedics deliver to the community, ensuring the highest level of emergency response when every second counts.”
The Vallejo Fire Department remains committed to adopting leading-edge medical practices, and the introduction of TXA reflects the department’s ongoing dedication to improving patient care in the field.

PG&E Former Vallejo Manufactured Gas Plant Site
Soil Gas Sampling Starts Week of September 9, 2024
What is the work?
From 2021 to 2023, the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) provided oversight for the environmental remediation (cleanup) of the former manufactured gas plant in Vallejo, CA 94590. Remedial actions occurred at the 26-acre property located south of Curtola Parkway and Sonoma Boulevard (Site) and the adjacent property located at 1225 Sonoma Boulevard The remedy included: 1. excavation and off-site disposal of roughly 280,000 tons of soil; 2. stabilizing deeper soil in place with a cement mixture; and 3. placing three to five feet of clean soil over treated areas to restore the original grade. This work addressed soil contaminated with total petroleum hydrocarbons (TPH), volatile organic compounds (VOCs), polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), cyanide, and metals (including arsenic and lead).
The following post-remediation sampling activities are planned at the Site and the adjacent 1225 Sonoma Boulevard to evaluate soil gas conditions (air in between soil particles):
• Installing 24 soil gas probes for the Site and five probes for the 1225 Sonoma Boulevard property to a depth of up to five feet below ground using a truck mounted drill rig (see Figure 1)
• Collecting soil gas samples for laboratory analysis
When will the work take place?
• Work will begin the week of September 9, 2024 and is expected to take up to eight weeks.
• All activities will take place between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday

She’s a bundle of energy, always ready to chase after a feather toy or pounce on a stray sunbeam. Yet, she also has a softer side— she loves curling up on a cozy lap and purring contentedly as you read a book or watch TV! HONEYBEAR
American Pit Bull Terrier, Female, Adult
Honeybear is as sweet as they come! She's a friendly, super-affectionate 1-year-old girl who would love to be your snuggle buddy. (Gentle belly rubs are her favorite thing ever!) She has great leash manners and enjoys a leisurely stroll. She's happy to go for walks and adventures, but also content to lounge and relax. She is short, compact, and medium energy. Honeybear hasn't shown much interest in toys; she would rather hang out. She happily coexists with other dogs at the shelter but would also be perfectly content as an only dog. If you're looking for the sweetest best buddy ever, Honeybear could be your girl! To meet Honeybear, visit our Adoption Page at HSNB.org and fill out a Dog Adoption Interest Application.
For a list of our available cats and dogs, go to HSNB.org and click the Adoptions tab. We welcome potential adopters to browse available animals on our website and if interested, download an application. Email cat applications to catadoptions@hsnb.org and dog applications to adoptions@hsnb.org. Pets are available at the time of article submission. We cannot guarantee they will be available upon publication. Humane Society of the North Bay is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We are located at 1121 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo. We are open daily by appointment, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. We are actively seeking fosters for our pets in need, and we are always seeking donations to help us do the life-saving work we do.
