On Saturday, May 21, the Vallejo Festival Orchestra will be joined by soprano Liisa Davila and tenor Alex Boyer in a spectacular evening of music by Johann Strauss and Franz Lehar at the historic and acoustically perfect Empress Theatre in Vallejo.
The "Great American Songbook" and the Broadway Musical both grew out of the Viennese operetta. Without Johann Strauss and Franz Lehar we probably wouldn't have "Hamilton," "West Side Story," or "My Fair Lady." For more information and tickets, click HERE.

The City of Vallejo Water Department is completing the design of the public water main replacement in Vallejo Plaza (formerly Larwin Plaza) and portions of Redwood Street fronting Vallejo Plaza Shopping Center. Construction activities will begin in the middle of summer 2022. The project is replacing approximately 3,000 linear feet of water mains and installing 12 new water service laterals as part of the Water Department’s Capital Improvement Project. The project will also include the replacement of ten valves and four fire hydrants. The work will increase the reliability of the water system resulting in fewer main breaks, increased water flow for fire protection, and improved water delivery and overall system reliability. These upgrades represent a significant investment in the long-term effectiveness of the water system for the community.
We understand that this work may be an inconvenience for businesses and some of our residents. Access to businesses will remain open during construction. We commit to working in partnership with you to address your concerns and mitigate all issues related to any temporary shut-off of water service, parking limitations, dust pollution, noise pollution, traffic detours, traffic safety, and any other issues you may identify as we move forward. We greatly appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to improve the City’s aging drinking water infrastructure and increase fire flow capacity for local businesses and the neighborhood. Learn more about the project (in English and Spanish) and subscribe to receive updates, at MyVallejo.com/VallejoPlaza.

Vallejo PD Introduces Report John Program to the City of Vallejo
14
The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) has partnered with the South Bay Coalition to End Human Trafficking to bring the ReportJohn.org (RJP) program to the City of Vallejo. Community members can now report incidents of suspected commercial sex and human trafficking activity by using the platform. ReportJohn.org is an online and mobile reporting system that allows community members to anonymously report vehicles
observed in soliciting sex or attempting to engage in illicit sexual activity. The purpose of the program is to reduce illegal sex demand by educating the public on the laws and dangers of human trafficking, targeting sex buyers, increasing communication with the public, and deterring buyers with the issuance of a visibility letter. “Our duty as a department is to help protect the most vulnerable members of our community,” Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “The ReportJohn.org platform allows us to focus our enforcement efforts and work with our community to remove the demand from our City.” Click or tap here to learn more.

Recently, Representative Congressman Mike Thompson (CA-05) and Representative John Garamendi (CA-03) presented a $900,000 check to the Vallejo Police Department for the development of their Mobile Community Mental Health Response Unit.

The Vallejo Police Department Community Mobile Mental Health Response Unit will provide trauma-informed mental health response and social services to reduce arrests in Vallejo and better respond to individuals experiencing crises and those with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This project was
requested by the Vallejo Police Department. “Our police department is taking a trauma informed care approach to protecting and serving those suffering from a mental health crisis and other emergencies,” Vallejo Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “This is a completely new direction for our department and represents a systemic change in VPD that will save lives and give those suffering a mental health crisis hope for a better future.” The funding comes from H.R. 2471, the government funding appropriations law, which was signed into law on March 15, 2022. VPD Seeks Community Feedback on Proposed Changes to OIS and CIRB Policies The Vallejo Police Department (VPD) is inviting Vallejo residents and stakeholders to provide public comment and feedback on proposed changes to our Officer Involved Shooting (OIS) and Critical Incident Review Board policies through May 31, 2022. As part of our three-year collaborative reform agreement with the California Department of Justice, and in response to a third-party assessment with 45 recommendations completed by the OIR Group in 2019, the VPD is restructuring a series of policies to build upon 21st Century policing practices in Vallejo. “We have a deep necessity to explore the intricacies of our policies, procedures, training, and professionalism to bring about the best in our officers, staff and community,” Vallejo Chief of Police Shawny K. Williams stated. “We are in a unique position to impact change together, and I hope that our residents and community members will continue to join us in that effort.”

Community Heroes Honored At Council Meeting
20
The Vallejo Fire Department had the privilege of honoring a pair of community heroes at this week’s Vallejo City Council Meeting for their life-saving actions on March 10, 2022. On that date, William Ose was shopping at our Vallejo Costco store, where he suffered a sudden cardiac emergency. Fortunately, an off-duty nurse, Rhona ManaloVillanueva, and a Costco employee, John Seymour, witnessed the event and sprung into action!
Rhona began cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) while John grabbed the store's automated external defibrillator (AED). Together, the pair successfully restarted Mr. Ose's heart prior to the arrival of Fire Department and Medic Ambulance paramedics! William has been recovering since this eventful day, but he was able to reunite with his heroes at this week’s city council meeting where a mayoral proclamation was presented along with a series of well-deserved awards! Join us in thanking Rhona and John! And celebrating William's story!
