THE CITY OF VALLEJO BROADBAND SERVICE VALLEJONET IS NOW VIP FIBER
The City of Vallejo is excited to announce that its municipal broadband service, formerly known as "VallejoNet," has been rebranded as "VIP Fiber."
This rebranding initiative is part of the City's ongoing efforts to position Vallejo as a hub for technological innovation and to reflect its commitment to providing high-quality, reliable internet service to its residents and businesses. With VIP Fiber, Vallejo will continue providing customers with the same fast and affordable internet service they have known and loved, backed by great local customer support and technical expertise.
The new name, VIP Fiber, better reflects the premium level of service and cutting-edge fiber optic technology that Vallejo's community can expect from this broadband service. Additionally, please sign up for a service quote today and get added to the alerts and updates for when VIP Fiber service is available in your area of Vallejo.
Customers who are Onnet and currently serviceable by the existing fiber network can expect to see up to a 30% saving on their services compared to their current provider. Customers that are Offnet and not currently serviceable will soon be able to access VIP Fiber's fast and reliable internet service as the City continues its investment in expanding the fiber optic network. Offnet customers who are on our pre-registration list will be notified as soon as VIP Fiber service is available in their area and receive a special introductory offer.

The Urban Strategies Council’s Elevate Youth California program supports youth leadership development in Vallejo and Oakland to reduce youth substance use disorder (SUD). Funded by the Sierra Health Foundation, this program trains young leaders (EYC Fellows) in Solano and
Alameda Counties to implement peer mentoring, youth advocacy, and outreach activities to middleand high-school students at risk of SUD.
Fellows receive training in research methods, data analysis, trauma-informed and healingcentered principles/practices, historical analysis and cultural awareness, stigma reduction, public speaking/writing skills, facilitation skills, social media, communications strategy and policy analysis. Fellows’ SUD training includes education on various drugs, their harms and prevention and treatment options available in their communities; healing-informed practices; and tools/language for reducing the stigma associated with opioid use disorder/mental health services.
The Fellows also host 3T: Tuesday's Transformational Talks, a monthly virtual session that talks about various mental health topics for youth ages 16-24.

Vallejo Fire Academy Recruits
Prepare For Fire Season
The 2023-1 Vallejo Fire Academy class underwent a strenuous week of wildland fire training to end the month of June. The training consists of mobile pump operations, handline construction, and weather and fire behavior instruction.
The 2023-1 recruit will graduate on July 22nd, after which they will begin their career serving the Vallejo community.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION / IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal candidate for the Assistant Engineer will have at least one year of professional engineering experience and a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or a related field. Assistant Engineers should be able to work under a Senior Civil or Associate Civil Engineer to successfully perform work requiring analytical ability; will be a team player who likes working with a variety of City staff and the public; enjoys working in the engineering field; and possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. While not required, experience in land development, engineering and/or capital improvement projects, reviewing and/or preparing plans,
specifications, and estimate (PS&E) and processing, engineering related permits, and an Engineering in Training (EIT) Certification are highly desirable qualifications.
The ideal candidate for the Associate Civil Engineer will have at least two years of professional civil engineering experience and hold a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field and registration as a California Professional Engineering (PE) in civil engineering. Associate Civil Engineers should be detailed oriented and able to effectively manage multiple projects, ensuring quality work, while remaining conscientious of schedules and budgets, team-oriented and able to interact with people throughout the City and the public, both cooperatively and collaboratively, has engineering design experience in a municipal or county public works department or special purpose district, as well as possesses excellent oral and written communication skills. While not required, experience in pavement related projects, pavement management programs, capital improvement projects, federal aid projects, federal ADA requirements, NPDES Permit, delivery of grant funded projects, and certification in Project Management Professional (PMP) Certification are highly desirable qualifications. For the Water position, desired experience includes design in water distribution, water treatment, storage, and pump systems.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION / IDEAL CANDIDATE
This is the second trainee level classification in the Water Treatment Plant Operator series. This is an intermediate level classification, with incumbents having some directly related experience and having successfully obtained their Grade T2 Water Treatment Plant Operator certification; representing the second level of a progressive classification series designed to prepare an incumbent over the course of twenty-
four (24) months from date of advancement into this classification, to qualify as a journey-level shift operator, certified by the California State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB) as a Grade T3 Water Treatment Plant Operator. Within twentyfour (24) months of the date of advancement into this classification, incumbents are expected to have obtained the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to qualify for advancement into the classification of Water Treatment Plant Operator. Employees in this class normally have some directly related work experience and are not yet prepared to perform the full range of work assigned to the journey-level classification of Water Treatment Plant Operator. Incumbents continue to receive training and close supervision and are expected to apply acquired job skills to complete tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Judgment is exercised within defined guidelines and procedures to determine appropriate action. This classification is distinguished from the Water Treatment Plant Operator class, in that the latter is the journey level position responsible for independently performing the full range of shift operator duties and maintenance involved in the City's drinking water treatment plant, transmission, distribution systems, and appurtenances.
