PB Cycle 9 Idea Collection is Open!
How would you make Vallejo an even better place?
Could we improve a park? Is there a local non-profit that could use some funding to support an extraordinary program? Do you have a beautification project in mind?
What about an after-school project? As a resident of Vallejo, you are a local expert, and the Participatory Budgeting (PB) process wants to hear your ideas for potential projects. The ideas you submit today could be considered and developed into proposals for the May/June 2024 PB ballot.
Cycle 9 of the Participatory Budgeting process will fund up to $500,000 worth of projects. Capital infrastructure projects must be implemented on City of Vallejo property and have a max budget request of $150,000. Program and service projects are usually implemented by local non-profits and partner agencies like the Vallejo City Unified School District or Greater Vallejo Recreation District. Program and service projects can request up to $37,500.
Community members and non-profit organizations can submit ideas and their complete proposals online at myvallejo.com/pb9. Non-profit 501(c)3 organizations interested in being an implementing partner must complete a prequalification application online by Sunday, October 22 at 11:59 p.m. You can submit your application in-person at City Hall.
In Cycle 9, community members also have the opportunity to assist with the PB process as an outreach volunteer or a budget delegate, by filling out a volunteer form online.
What projects won last cycle? – Visit the MyVallejo website for details on the Cycle 8 winning projects.

HUMANE SOCIETY PETs OF THE WEEK
LOUISE
American Pit Bull Terrier, female, 4 years old
This pretty girl is Louise! She is a medium-sized dog with a gorgeous brown coat and hazel eyes. A natural people-lover, Louise has become our temporary office dog, living 24/7 in the Shelter Director’s office. She enjoys meeting all the folks who drop by — and she (usually) doesn’t interrupt Zoom calls with requests for attention. Louise is a delightfully potty-trained overnight guest who doesn’t tear anything up and has never had an accident in the office. She also LOVES to play with toys and is treat-motivated. Louise is friendly with our other office foster dog and absolutely loves running around and playing with her. In the beginning, she didn’t understand the concept of sharing, but with some gentle correction, Louise has become great at playing together when toys are present. She’s still a bit of a food hog, so separate feeding areas are a good idea. She’d probably do great in a home with a canine friend her size. If you are interested in meeting the lovely Louise, go to HSNB.org to fill out our dog adoption interest application.
For a list of our available cats and dogs, go to HSNB.org and click on the Adoptions tab. We welcome potential adopters to browse available animals on our website and if interested, download an application. Email cat applications to catadoptions@hsnb.org and dog applications to adoptions@hsnb.org. Pets are available at time of article submission. We cannot guarantee they will be available upon publication. Humane Society of the North Bay is a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization. We are located at 1121 Sonoma Blvd., Vallejo. We are open by appointment, from 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. daily, with up to two Open Shelter Saturdays per month. We are actively seeking fosters for our pets in need, and we are always seeking donations to help us do the life-saving work we do.

Meet Iris! She is a sweet, silly, athletic 5-month-old kitten who can’t wait to find her forever home. Iris is currently being fostered at a loving temporary home along with her littermates. Iris and her equally adorable siblings were rescued at a delicate age from beneath a wood pile. They are now romping, hopping, purring, happy little cats who love to run and play! If you’d like to meet Iris or her equally adorable siblings, , go to HSNB.org to fill out our cat adoption interest application.

CALLING ALL FERRY RIDERS – WE NEED YOUR INPUT!
The operators of the San Francisco Bay Ferry are working on a project to reconfigure the existing Vallejo Ferry Terminal. The project will reduce annual maintenance costs and impacts on the environment, increase operational safety, and improve the overall rider experience.
An environmental study is underway, and we’re asking for feedback on three alternatives, each with different access points around the perimeter of the basin (see figure on the back):
Alternative 1 and 2 propose access from outside of the basin (southwest and northwest corners respectively) with a “dog-leg” design providing pedestrian access to the ferry.
• Alternative 3 proposes extended pedestrian access from the existing ferry terminal access point.
• Each option will provide more passenger queuing area, improve operational safety, and reduce commute times.
Sign up for the upcoming virtual public meeting or share your input by scanning the QR code. For more information, visit www.weta.sanfranciscobayferry.com/current-projects/vallejo-ferry-terminal-reconfiguration-project

The City of Vallejo is excited to announce the beginning of the Bay Trail/Vine Trail Construction Project which will help close the 5-mile trail gap that now exists through Vallejo up to American Canyon. The project will build sections of Class I multi-use trail and sections of Class II and IV bike lanes along sections of Wilson Ave., Sacramento Street, Enterprise Drive, Lewis Brown Drive, Broadway Street, Sonoma Blvd., Meadows Drive, and Catalina Way. The project includes trail enhancements such as wayfinding signage, counters, a rest shelter, interpretive panel, and mileposts. The project addresses accessibility along all of the segments and will produce a safe and inviting facility for bike and pedestrian travel in northern Vallejo. Vallejo will serve as the trailhead and gateway to reach the larger Bay Area!

To construct the project as safely as possible, the public should expect project area closures of the existing trail between White Slough and Highway 37 between Sacramento Street and Enterprise Drive through early 2024.
