WATER BILLING UPDATE Did you receive a 10-day water disconnect notice? Due to an error with our water billing vendor, some Vallejo Water Department customers have received a 10-day disconnection notice accidentally. We realize that this may have come as a shock to some of our water customers, and we apologize for the error. We want to assure our community that we are currently NOT disconnecting water service, and customers with past due amounts are NOT being charged a penalty OR interest. The City continues to work with customers affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, and will continue to make arrangements with customers to assist in getting their bills caught up. VOLUNTEERS HAPPY TO “GIVE GRAFFITI THE BOOT” In 2008 the Times Herald featured a story about an allvolunteer group, organized by Tony Pearsall, who aimed to remove all the graffiti in town. Their efforts were the inspiration behind a conversation during the 2021 Garden Tour when Wendell Quigley mentioned that residents of Mare Island were interested in helping remove graffiti from several buildings that belong to the Navy. Fast forward to June 26, 2021, and the first “Give Graffiti the Boot” event was hosted on the North End of Mare Island. The City of Vallejo Public Works brought in 100 gallons of paint, Southern Land Company graciously hosted a team of 25 volunteers, supplying new brushes, rollers, and a hospitality table stocked with refreshments. In under three hours, all six buildings, formerly covered in graffiti, were given a fresh new look. Thank you to all the resident volunteers, Brian Nagy and Tania Brown from Southern Land Company and our Public Works team, for making this a productive day in service to the community! The following “Give Graffiti the Boot” event will be Saturday, July 24. Volunteers will be able to register on Eventbrite soon. To find out where the next event is, please visit the Community Calendar. If your organization or club would like to host, please contact shelee.loughmiller@cityofvallejo.net or call 707-648-8616 13

VALLEJO FIRE DEPARTMENT SAVES KITTENS Vallejo Firefighters were dispatched to a small vegetation fire in South Vallejo on Sunday evening. Upon arrival, the fire had been controlled mainly by residents. Nevertheless, firefighters went to work, ensuring that the blaze was completely extinguished. While mopping up the fire, first-year firefighter Scott Barger’s keen-ear picked up on the sound of two whimpering kittens. Firefighters searched for the source and were able to locate a pair of young felines singed by the fire. Fire Engine 22’s crew cleaned up the cats, provided them with water, and kept them comfortable until Solano County Sheriff Animal Control arrived to take over care. The story doesn’t end there- Firefighter Barger has been in contact with Animal Control with a plan to adopt the kittens once they are ready to be homed.
