VALLEJO WATERWISE You may have heard that we are headed into another drought summer. While Vallejo anticipates having adequate water supplies this year, it’s important to remember to use water efficiently—especially outdoors where most household water use occurs. Here’s an easy tip to get you started: Remember to water your yard early in the morning to reduce evaporation. Find more tips and information about water-wise rebates here.

TUOLUMNE AND SERENO TRAFFIC SIGNAL UPDATE In early May, a vehicle accident damaged a traffic signal at the intersection of Tuolumne Street and Sereno Drive. Due to the severity of the damage, the traffic signal required a total replacement, so the exisiting signals were placed in “red flashing mode” until the pole replacement could be completed. The signal pole was an older Caltrans model pole and the supplier was unable to fulfill the replacement order immediately due to disruptions to the supply chain and labor market caused by the pandemic. The pole is expected to arrive in Vallejo next week, and will be installed and reactivated within a few days of receipt. Until then, please continue to use caution when driving through the intersection and please make a complete stop at the flashing red intersection.

VALLEJO ADOPT-A-BLOCK PROGRAM 2021 IS GROWING Be it a block, a street, a park, or a bridge, the Vallejo Adopt-A-Block program is covering a lot of ground. In January 2021, the City of Vallejo launched the newly updated Adopt-A-Block program, and participation has been growing ever since. As of July 31, 33 dedicated groups are helping to “Give Litter the Boot” located in all four corners of the city. The latest to join the volunteer effort is the Fast Forward Track Club. They have taken up the challenge by becoming an Adopt-A-Block member to maintain the pedestrian bridge between Webb and Chesley. We are happy to report that thanks to the track club’s efforts, the students and families of Steffan Manor Elementary will have a clean and blight-free walk to school! The mission of the Adopt-A-Block program is to minimize the amount of waste in our community. Through public education about the proper disposal of garbage and recyclables and the removal of graffiti, we work to maintain a litter-free Vallejo with the help of many dedicated partners and volunteers. To learn more about how you can get involved, please contact Community & Volunteer Coordinator, Shelee. Loughmiller@cityofvallejo.net, or call 707-648-8616.
