VALLEJO FIRE DEPARTMENT SENDS CREW TO ASSIST WITH THE DIXIE FIRE On August 6, the Vallejo Fire Department deployed a team of four firefighters to the state’s largest burning wildfire. The crew assembled with firefighters from the Salinas Fire Department, Crockett Fire Protection District, Albany Fire Department, and Milpitas Fire Department to battle the Dixie Fire, which has scorched nearly 500,000 acres and leveled over 600 homes. The fire began in Plumas County but has grown to impact Butte, Lassen, and Tehama counties. Since the start of 2021, California has experienced over 6,000 wildfires that have burned over 1,260 square miles. According to Cal Fire, this is roughly three times the amount of wildfire loss experienced for the same period in 2020. Each fire season, Vallejo Fire Department deploys firefighters to assist with large wildfires across the state of California as part of the state’s master mutual aid system. Vallejo residents can all do their part in reducing our wildfire risk by minimizing dead and dry vegetation on your property and ensuring a safe clearance zone exists between your home and the surrounding vegetation. More can be learned by visiting the Vallejo Fire Prevention Website. 19
