IT’S FINALLY HERE. After years in the making, we are officially opening Grand Park this month. It’s been a long road, but we did it. We’ve already had games at Grand Park, including youth tournaments, college games with Notre Dame and Butler, and almost 200,000 visits since play began in March. It has been phenomenal to see the amount of people who visit the park and our city every week. Nothing that we accomplish in life is ever done alone. Grand Park is the result of years of hard work by too many people to list by name. Because of their hard work, our community is becoming a destination for the youth sports industry nationwide. But the grand opening that will occur this month is not just for City Council President Jim Ake and athletes. Our grand opening is going to be a fun event designed for the entire Mayor Andy Cook Westfield community. The weekend of June 20, 21 and 22nd will feature food, games, live music, a 5K run/walk, a Ferris wheel and a grand fireworks display. We’ll even have one of the largest ribbon-cuttings in Indiana on Saturday at 2:00pm. You will not want to miss out. I hope you can make it to our celebration. I also hope the experience doesn’t end there – be sure to visit the park often to enjoy the largest, and the best, youth sports campus in the country, right here in the best city in Indiana.
ABOUT GRAND PARK Grand Park started out as a plan to create a facility for our local youth athletes. While researching potential locations for local sports fields, Mayor Cook became aware that the youth sports industry amounts to $5 billion in annual revenue. He worked closely with the Westfield Sports Commission and Hamilton County Tourism to develop a plan to build a facility that would serve local youth athletes, attract (Clockwise from top left) Grand Park groundbreaking ceremony, the brick backtournaments from across the country, and make hospitality stops getting started, sod being installed on the soccer fields, WYSI Opening Day Westfield’s industry. Building a sports facility of this caliber was a large undertaking. Grand Park celebrated its groundbreaking in November 2011 and after over two years of construction, the first games took place this March. Since then, Grand Park has already experienced over 200,000 visits and the City has already received commitments from several restaurants to locate in the vicinity of the park as well as a mixed-use building in the Grand Park Village development.

Performances The Wright Brothers Band Saturday, June 21, 7pm The Wright Brothers’ 38 years of making music together is testimony to their ability to bring a smile to every member of their audience. This incredibly versatile group can change gears like no other group as they play a 40’s big band song then switch to a 50’s - 90’s rock ‘n roll for an entire evening of dancing, then turn around and perform a George Jones country classic or a bluegrass number. The glue that holds it all together is that unmistakable Wright Brothers sound; those heavenly harmonies that make you hold your breath, and the instruments that sizzle or soothe. Whatever the genre the Wright Brothers are visiting at the moment, it’s bound to be marked by this versatile group’s signature sounds: rich, intertwining harmonies backed by virtuoso instrumentals.
Dave & Rae Friday, June 20, 6pm One of the most well-known cover bands in Indianapolis, Dave & Rae has entertained crowds with their high-energy shows since 1995. Their wide song selection includes everything from folk to funk, pop, rock, sing-a-alongs, dance and country—all performed with their awesome sound. The band loves what they do and it shows. Dave & Rae is comprised of the duo Dave Edmonds and Lisa Rae along with Adam White on drums and Matt Wilson on bass.
Circle City Royals Saturday, June 21, 3:30pm The Circle City Royals is an established event band and plays at all of Indianapolis’ top venues. As the name denotes, the Circle City Royals is a collection of Indianapolis’ finest musicians. At its core, the Circle City Royals is a four-piece Classic Rock band containing members who have toured the world with The Lemonheads and Joe Bonamossa. However, on any given night, giants from the genres of bluegrass, jazz and rock-n-roll will grace the stage. You might see a seven-piece acoustic show one night and an electric performance with a horn section the next. There are no boundaries when it comes to the versatility of these musicians.
