SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT
MESSAGE TO PASTORS As a pastor, you know the healing power of hope. You also know the countless stories of people in your community who are struggling to find hope. Maybe they’ve lost a loved one. Maybe they’ve been hurt, tossed-aside, beaten, or broken. Maybe they’ve been battling a sickness or watching a loved one lose a fight to illness. All of these people are looking for hope, but in its absence, they may begin to believe it’s too late, nobody can relate, or they’ll never get through this season of struggle. We know Jesus is the hope they’re looking for, but words often fall short when we try to explain the true difference Jesus can make. They need to experience Jesus in their hearts. Stories can do that. Jesus spoke parables throughout the Gospel because stories are able cut through the lies in a way that no well-reasoned argument could. Story is the language of our heart. I Can Only Imagine tells the story that many have needed to hear for a long time. The film is based on the true events that inspired the best-selling MercyMe song, which became the most-played contemporary Christian song of all time. However, the real focus of the film is the journey of MercyMe’s lead singer Bart Millard and his relationship with his father.

Bart’s father was a man so lost in pride, regret, and bitterness that he couldn’t forgive himself and in his pain, he almost destroyed everything. This man is forgiven by the child he beat and by the God he scorned. It wasn’t too late for him. Bart was a young man so haunted by his past that he lived behind a façade. In his inauthenticity, he struggled to create anything of real worth or value. This young man learned to forgive, live genuinely, and embrace God’s purpose. He wasn’t too broken. Throughout the movie, many of the same lies that your community struggle with are addressed. Can you image the hope that could be awakened? • If it wasn’t too late for him, maybe it’s not too late for me. • If he could overcome that, maybe I can overcome my past too. • If they could find purpose in their pain, maybe God has a purpose for mine as well.
ARE YOU READY TO BREATHE FRESH HOPE INTO YOUR COMMUNITY? The most important part of any church campaign is a clear vision, which can only come from prayer. Ask God to cast a
5
vision for how your church can best use the I Can Only Imagine resources. We’ve praying ourselves and here are some of the things we’ve learned: > We want to equip local churches with a Hollywood-quality, highly-engaging film that church members will be excited to invite their neighbors, friends, coworkers, and family to see. > We want to create engaging resources that can continue the film’s momentum through sermons, small group/Sunday school meetings, and in youth and children’s ministry. > We want to open new opportunities for dialogue that will deepen the sense of fellowship within the church body and the entire community. > Through all of this, we want to see communities and churches changed and revitalized as people find new life in Christ. This guide and its resources are not meant to cast a new vision – they are a tool to help fulfill the vision you’re already living. Your elders, staff, and volunteers will be excited to be a part of this campaign and put their time and energy behind bringing this vision to life. Thousands of prayers have been cast over this film. We hope you will be part of seeing how far God can take the message of this film and its resources to spread the hope of the gospel across the earth.

INTRODUCTION TO ALL RESOURCES Now that we presented the vision of hope which I Can Only Imagine can awaken in your community, we would love to introduce you to the materials included here in your I Can Only Imagine Church Campaign Kit. The following are explanations of what exactly you have received inside this kit and how it all works together to help you get your community excited and engaged in the message. After reviewing the following details, check out the suggested timeline that we have created for you, so you can fit all these pieces together for a successful I Can Only Imagine church campaign!
7
PASTOR'S KIT The Pastor’s Kit was created specifically to make your life as pastor easier. The local church has been charged with the mission of sharing the hope of the gospel, but it can be challenging in a relentlessly broken world. As a leader, you’ve seen Christians and communities falter in the face of the unexpected. How can you restore hope when someone feels rejected, guilty, or broken? These resources were designed so you can guide your community to recall their past wounds, reorient their present identity, and reimagine their future. The data disc included in this Pastor’s Kit is especially designed to help you use the content of I Can Only Imagine to bring hope to your communities.

THE I CAN ONLY IMAGINE SERMON SERIES
This series contains four sermons manuscripts titled “Imagine a Loving Father”, “Imagine Forgiveness”, “Imagine Redemption”, and “Imagine Going Home”. For the first time we've included access to an additional two-week introduction series titled “Grace Comes First”. This bonus two-week series on evangelism and hospitality will help to provide a buildup to the topics covered in the I Can Only Imagine sermons. During this series, you can focus on equipping your congregation to invite those who may be far from God, or haven't stepped inside a church for a long time. We understand that every church and community is different, so as you prepare for these sermons, reflect upon where your congregation flourishes, so you might encourage them. Also reflect upon where your congregation needs to grow so you might give pointed and particular application. We pray the sermons outlines will fuel your thoughts and imagination to bring the word of God to the people of your church in a faithful and fresh way. We encourage you to make these sermons personal to the congregation God has called you to by adding specific and particular encouragements and exhortations.
CHILDREN’S CURRICULUM
We want the message of I Can Only Imagine to encourage everyone in your congregation, no matter their age. So, for the first time, we have included children’s curriculum as part of the Pastor’s Kit. Mirroring the sermon series, there are 4 weeks of children’s lessons with an additional 2 weeks of introductory
9
lessons if you choose to use them. These children’s lessons include a Bible story, a memory verse, and discussion questions for the teacher to present to the children based on the Bible story. These lessons have been created for children in kindergarten through 5th grade; we have included multiple activity choices to account for the age disparity with some activities suited for younger children and others suited for older children. As with the sermons, make these lessons and activities your own based on what is the best fit for the children’s ministry at your church. Please note that these have 2 copies of the curriculum per page, so you may cut the page in half to give to your teachers.
VIDEO CLIPS
These video clips are taken directly from the I Can Only Imagine Video Series. You may use these to refer to Bart's story in your sermon or use these clips as teasers for small groups/Sunday school groups. These clips are an excellent way to get people excited about the video content contained in the Small Group Kit.
SERMON BUMPER VIDEOS
Many churches find these videos helpful to use as a transition piece before the sermon. The visuals are consistent each week, to remind your congregation of the series you are in. Each video ends with the title of that week's sermon. Please note there are 4 of these, once for each of the sermons in the I Can Only Imagine sermon series.

ART FILES
We have included many artwork files in hopes of suiting your needs as best we can. There are 8 art files containing original movie artwork to help in your creation of bulletin inserts and posters. We have also created 7 slides to use in your sermons and in promotion of small groups. We have made sure the titles of the sermons match the titles of the week’s small group lesson to create as much symmetry as possible.
SOCIAL MEDIA FILES
We recognize that social media plays an integral part in the lives of many people in your community, so we wanted to make sure it was as simple as possible to get the word out about your I Can Only Imagine campaign. We have designed beautiful and poignant graphics and memes for you to post on your personal or church’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, website, or whatever platform works best for you. In addition to the files, we have created an easy- to-follow 6-week social media plan for you to incorporate these files. You can find this plan within this booklet on page 28.
11
SMALL GROUP KIT As a pastor, you realize a message from the pulpit can only go so far in changing the hearts of the people in your church. Small groups are often where the real transformation occurs. We were created for community, made in the image of a relational God. As relational beings, we find our deepest life satisfaction, grow into the likeness of Christ, experience frequent spiritual growth, and demonstrate the marks of spiritual maturity in community together. Our diverse communities demonstrate God’s grace in way that nothing else could. We want to make small groups as easy as possible for both you and your leaders, so we have created our Small Group Kit to have everything a small group leader would need so that you can simply hand it over when it’s time for small groups to start!

SERIES This 4-episode Video Series features Bart Millard, lead singer of MercyMe. 13
JOURNAL This Small Group Kit contains one copy of the Journal, but after looking through it we are hopeful that you will want all your small group members to have their own copy. This beautifully designed 28-day study of Jesus’s life and ministry is can serve as a participant’s guide for the I Can Only Imagine Video Series. Each day include scripture, reflective questions, and prayer—all working together to reveal God’s incredible heart for his children. For the best experience for your small group, we recommend that each person in the group uses their own copy of the Journal, leading them on a redemptive journey to recall their past wounds, reorient their present identity, and reimagine their future. This product can also serve as a standalone product to use as a devotional too.
14
LEADER’S GUIDE You are receiving one copy of the Leader’s Guide inside this kit. Many small group leaders feel ill-equipped to create a natural conversation that leads to a meaningful experience for their group members. This I Can Only Imagine Leader’s Guide works in conjunction with the Video Series to equip group leaders with helpful tips on leading a group, thoughtful discussion questions for each week, and suggested scripture to read. This guide helps to create a directed, safe, and open environment to lead the small group through a redemptive transformation. Each small group leader should have a copy to help to facilitate meaningful discussion by providing carefully crafted questions and guidance to compliment the videos.

4 STEPS TO GETTING STARTED We hope we have provided you with a good understanding of all the different resources contained inside of the I Can Only Imagine Church Campaign Kit. We don’t want you to feel overwhelmed which is why we wanted to provide you with 4 simple tips to develop a strong and directed start to your church campaign.
Step 1
DEVELOP A CORE GROUP TO HELP BRING YOUR VISION TO LIFE Implementing a church campaign alone would be a miserable and nearly impossible task, so that is why creating a core group early-on is so important to the success of your campaign. This group should be made up of trusted leaders, key staff with varying unique skill sets to contribute, and/or highly-engaged volunteers. As you prepare for your first meeting, embrace the fact that this core group you are forming is not simply a group of volunteers, but rather an extension of yourself and they have something to contribute. Treat them as leaders and empower them to make decisions under your guidance.
20
|
Step 2
ASSIGN EACH LEADER AN AREA TO OVERSEE You can’t oversee every area of this campaign and here is when it’s time to delegate to your core group. They should be able to make varying levels of decisions based on regular touchpoint meetings with you that we’ll cover later in this guide. Here are some suggested areas you may want to think about assigning someone to oversee (this list isn't exhaustive, but rather a starting point):
HOSPITALITY PROMOTIONAL PLANS TECHNOLOGY/AV WOMEN'S MINISTRY MEN'S MINISTRY YOUTH/CHILDREN'S MINISTRY MOVIE EVENT LEAD PARTNERSHIPS WITH THE COMMUNITY
21
Step 3
HAVE YOUR FIRST MEETING! Here's a few tips for your first meeting: > Prayer is probably the single best way to unify the church, so that means praying over all of your efforts. Take the opportunity model honesty and transparency when gathering and asking for prayer. > Make it fun and make it memorable. Snacks, drinks, special treats, etc. are key to making this more than just another meeting. > Identify a key note taker for all of your meetings. One thorough set of well-rounded notes for everyone to work from are truly invaluable and need to be shared within a day of the meeting to ensure everyone continues to move together. These can be added to personal notes that add further context for the team notes.
Here are some discussion topics for your first meeting: > Cast your vision while explaining the “why for the campaign > Share your intended goal for the church and your ministry > Explain your current challenges or concerns
22
|
> Address each person and explain why you chose them and how they can help > Determine your overall goals for this campaign
Step 4
FOLLOW-UP REGULARLY WITH YOUR LEADERS Keep the lines of communication open. Send a follow up email. Make a phone call to check in. Make a point to seek them out and create opportunities for them to share their thoughts. On the rare occasion that they won’t have anything to share they will still be grateful that you made time for them.
23
HOSTING A MOVIE NIGHT Story is the language of our hearts and film remains one of the most powerful ways to tell those stories. Statistics show that over 71% of people in the United States go to the movies on a regular basis and movies continue to be one of the most preferred activities for family outings. Movies allow us to engage in a message on a different level and create thought-provoking conversations. Hosting a movie event provides your congregation with the opportunity to invite people in their lives, who would not normally come to church, to a no-pressure environment. As an outreach event, a movie night allows those in your community to get to know you and allows you to expel some possible preconceived ideas about Christians and the church. Movie events can certainly feel intimidating at first. But that’s why we are here to assist with some helpful tips and suggestions! Throughout the planning process and event, remember the most important thing you can do, as a leader and a church, is to be hospitable to those coming in your church and loving the people who walk through your doors.
ACQUIRE A LICENSE
First, we want to make sure you are licensed to show this movie (and we are sure you do too), so we have created our I Can Only Imagine movie event kits. Any time the film is being shown outside of a home, a license is legally required. Our movie event kits contain the license you need and are sold at 3 different price
24
|
tiers which are based on your average church attendance, not the attendance on the night of the event. This purchase grants you a license and makes you legally compliant for unlimited showings of the film for a full year from the date of purchase! It is important to note this license does not allow use clips from the film to be shown during your service or on your website, however you can show the trailer to promote your upcoming event.
PLANNING YOUR EVENT
Once you’ve acquired your license, you will want to outline the event. There are many different aspects which can occupy your time, which is why a clear and detailed outline is important as the first step in your process. Think through challenges you’ve faced with previous events, but also think about the event through the eyes of the guests attending. Do not be discouraged by a limited budget or space, but rather view this as an opportunity to be creative! Make this event your own based on the needs of your church and community. Integrating volunteers from your community is very important to the success of your movie night. Casting a vision and recruiting volunteers early in the process of planning can be extremely beneficial. Your volunteers can be your greatest event advocates and enthusiasts if confusion or questions set in within the church. Equip them with the information to be able to speak accurately about the event to others when questions arise. Some churches have found a kick-off meeting to cast vision and pray
25
for event to be a great way start things off on the right foot. Don’t forget to thank them at the end of your event! It can also a good idea to ask for their feedback as they often have great insights from the event.
PROMOTING YOUR EVENT
When promoting your movie night, it is not the case of more is more. It is about being smart and knowing your church family. This is a fantastic time to get creative! Physical resources such as flyers, postcards, banners, and newsletters are staples of promotion and often are very effective. But do not forget to also embrace online resources as well, such as social media posts, website pages, videos, and emails. Many of the art files that are included on your Pastor’s Kit disc are perfect to use for promotion of a movie event so that you and your staff are not having to create new material.
RUNNING YOUR EVENT
Do not treat a movie night as simply a “push play” event. It can be helpful to have a host up front to greet the guests, cast vision for the night, and pray before starting the movie. You can even announce or show a brief video about upcoming opportunities relating to the event, such as small groups. It is important to make these announcements before the film begins as most guests will want to leave after watching a full-length film and you will have missed your opportunity. Your hope for those attending would be that they make their way
26
|
back into your church to become more involved in other programs you have. For instance, movie events are great occasions to promote small group sign-ups. Encourage those attending to sign-up together and ensure the signup process is quick and painless. Once you have these signups, it will be easy to follow up in order to get them plugged into a group or other events at your church!
27
SOCIAL MEDIA ENGAGEMENT There’s no denying the power and influence that social media has these days. Many churches who have embraced the use of social media as a means of sharing their vision and their programs have reaped great benefits. In light of this, we wanted to give your church some easy-to-use resources to implement on your church’s social media platforms to help you get the word out about your I Can Only Imagine campaign! In the following pages, you will find a 6-week outline of our recommended social media posts, which is meant to begin the Monday after the first sermon of the “Grace Comes First” series. Each week will have 3 to 5 days listed; each of which will contain a suggested post with an image, meme, or video to go along with the post. Best part is these images, videos, and memes have already been created for you and can be found on your Pastor’s Kit data disc, and are labeled exactly how they appear in the following plan. The posts are merely suggestions and we invite you to make them to personal to your community. Feel free to use as many or few of our suggestions as you wish. We hope you will use this outline and the suggestions to stir your own imagination for how your church can best utilize social media. There are countless creative and strategic ways in which you can use social media. Stay faithful to some strategies that have successful for your church before, but also don’t be afraid to
28
|
try out some new and imaginative ways to use social media as a method to engage others! Our hope is this social media plan helps you and your congregation to spread your vision to the unreached friends, neighbors, coworkers, or family members in your community!
