Keep up with the latest color trends to optimize your spaces
As the weather and months change, so do trends in colors for styling a home. Accordingly, each month, Sherwin-Williams’ color team comes together to select a color that will optimize your space.
To determine the best color for the month, the team considers what the color should evoke. July’s Color of the Month, for example, was chartreuse, a subdued yellow-green. According to Sherwin-Williams’ color and DIY blog, Tinted, vibrant colors can make any space happier.
“Chartreuse’s vivid hue creates a positive vibe,” Tinted reads, “so your happy place is the brightest it can be.”
Similarly, softer tones better complement the faded hues of winter. February’s Color of the Month was Aleutian, a foggy blue. Per Tinted, the cool blue brings calm and quiet to your space and blends well with any design style.
“It’s the ultimate sense of cozy you can only find at home,” reads the blog.
Each of Tinted’s Color of the Month posts includes multiple ideas to integrate the colors into your own space. Aleutian, for example, is shown in homes with Bohemian, Nordic and Farmhouse Eclectic styles. The posts also include suggestions of complementary colors to complete a space.
Colors of the Year
Most major paint suppliers curate colors of the year that are versatile enough to fit any season and expected to have steady and lasting popularity.
Nine months into 2022, suppliers have seen their colors of the year in houses throughout the country, on HGTV and even in New York Fashion Week.
Sherwin-Williams’ 2022 Color of the Year is Evergreen Fog, a neutral green. Evergreen Fog’s gentle, organic hue creates a calming and grounding space, according to Tinted.
For its 2022 Color of the Year, Pantone made history by creating an entirely new hue: Very Peri. A pigmented blue-purple, Very Peri is calming yet invigorating, subdued yet energetic. In February, the periwinkle derivative took further strides and became a star on the runway in New York Fashion Week.

Valspar released multiple colors of the year, each nature-inspired and striving to bring a comforting presence into homes. The colors range from Blanched Thyme, an organic green, to Fired Earth, a dark hue that can add sophistication and warmth to a space.
Color Forecast
Though colors can be hard to predict, Sherwin-Williams’ Color Forecast team offers a comprehensive look at the top color trends for each year.

“We chose the name MODE because we’re paving the way for a future where we get to redefine the way we’re expressing and experiencing the world around campaign. us,” writes Sue Wadden, director of color marketing at Sherwin-Williams, in a post introducing MODE. The colors the team selected are meant to bring levity into homes following the isolation of recent years. “There’s just a joyfulness in color,” Wadden writes. “It’s the perfect time to balance all that gray with accent colors that lift your spirits at the end of the day.” Similarly, Creative Paints, the central Ohio retailer of Benjamin Moore & Co., offered its own color trends palette for the year with 14 hues that work together to create a diverse, yet coherent space.
Within the palette is Creative Paints’ 2022 Color of the Year, October Mist. The silver-green, inspired by the stem of a flower, strives to create a canvas for other colors to easily complement. Its neutral shade allows for your creativity and imagination to blossom.
Creative Paints also recently launched its 3,500 Colors of the Midwest
