Message from Enrique Ybarra / President & CEO City Sightseeing Worldwide

Resume Seville, Spain. The home of the first ever City Sightseeing operation which started on the 31 March 1999

Dear friends, The year 2016 goes by with the City Sightseeing brand present in more cities than ever. In the last months, destinations such as Kiel in Germany, Corfu in Greece and San Juan in Puerto Rico have joined the City Sightseeing family, among other destinations of great interest and those that are about to join to our international network, together with new services like boat tours in Palma, Malaga and Amsterdam. With these additions, our next corporate conference in Amsterdam in March 2017 promises to be the largest we’ve ever held. The strength of our brand, the size and interest of our portfolio and the excellent work being done by our partners from City Sightseeing Amsterdam – our latest City Sightseeing Operator of the Year – ensure a new success in the Netherlands. I am looking forward to seeing you at the conference to let you all know the work we have done to make the City Sightseeing brand more recognizable, to reach strategic commercial agreements with the main agents of the travel industry and other new and exciting projects that we are developing at this time. You will find an insight in this issue of Top Deck, in which I also do not want to miss the opportunity to thank you for all the great work you have done in 2016 and wish you all the best for 2017, where we will follow building this great family that is City Sightseeing.

Tourism / Outbound Markets – the UNWTO review

Most tourists visit destinations within their own region. The Republic of Korea enters the Top 10 source markets. These and other interesting conclusions have been released by the UNWTO about outbound markets in the world. Would you like to know your potential customers?

The large majority of international travel takes place within travellers’ own regions, with about four out of five arrivals worldwide originating in the same region. Source markets for international tourism have traditionally been concentrated largely in the advanced economies of Europe, the Americas and Asia and the Pacific. However, with rising levels of disposable income many emerging economies have also shown fast growth over recent years, especially in the markets of Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Latin America. Europe is currently still the world’s largest source region, generating half of the world’s international arrivals, followed by Asia and the Pacific (24%), the Americas (17%), the Middle East (3%) and Africa (3%). China, the United States and the United Kingdom led outbound tourism in their respective regions in 2015, fuelled by strong currencies and economies. China continues to lead global 06

outbound travel, after registering doubledigit growth in tourism expenditure every year since 2004, benefitting Asian destinations such as Japan and Thailand as well as the United States and various European destinations. Spending by Chinese travellers increased by 26% in 2015 to reach US$ 292 billion, as the total number of outbound travellers rose by 10% to 128 million. Tourism expenditure from the world’s second largest source market, the United States, increased to US$ 113 billion in 2015, while the number of outbound travellers grew to 73 million. The United Kingdom, the fourth largest source market, led growth in outbound demand in Europe, supported by a strong British pound in relation to the euro. UK residents’ visits abroad were up by 5 million to 64 million in 2015, with US$ 63 billion spent in international tourism. Demand from other major markets was more subdued, partly due to weaker currencies. Germany remained the third

largest source market with a slight decrease in expenditure last year to US$ 78 billion. France (US$ 38 billion) also reported a decline, but still moved up one place in the ranking to 5th position. The Russian Federation (US$ 35 billion) moved down one place to 6th position despite a 10% increase in expenditure in 2015. Canada remained in 7th place with US$ 29 billion in expenditure. The Republic of Korea reported a robust increase in spending to US$ 25 billion, and moved up six places to enter the Top 10 in 8th place. As a consequence, Italy (US$ 24 billion) and Australia (US$ 23 billion) both moved down one place in the ranking to 9th and 10th position respectively. Other source markets in addition to the Top 10 which showed double-digit growth in expenditure last year were: Spain, Sweden, Taiwan (pr. of China), Kuwait, the Philippines, Thailand, Argentina, the Czech Republic, Israel, Egypt, and South Africa.

Tourism / Everybody wants the Millennials

Talking about outbound markets it is mandatory to dedicate a separate chapter to know in depth a type of customer that everyone wants in the travel industry – the Millennials. They are the future, but the future is now.

The Millennials are the largest generation to date, 1 in 4 people in the world is from 16 to 36 years old (born between 1980 to 2000). They are estimated in 79 million in the US alone. Apart from a matter of quantity, it is a generation used to the technology, interested in culture and grown in a society where travelling is not a luxury item but a need. According to a report published by Expedia, we are available to know more about the Millennials, the customer that everybody wants in the travel industry. As a traveller, 86% of the Millennials travel to experience a new culture, 82% consider online travel reviews important, 84% reported user-generated content has more influence on what they purchase than adverts and 76% decided on a travel location based on recommendations from friends. What about their habits? The Millennials use their mobile devices for everything: 49% book travel on their 08

phones and tablets. They rely on online feedbacks: 74% search for travel related information on mobile devices, want to stay connected throughout their journey: 60% pay for in-flight WiFi, and 94% use Facebook. As a natural consequence, they want to share their experiences with friends, resulting in 66% posting updates at least once a day. Rewards Another interesting feature is that, although Millennials check multiple travel sites to make sure they get the best deal, most of them join a loyalty program (41%) and 68% are loyal to the program where they have the most rewards accumulated such as cash/ freebies, discounts, VIP upgrades or extra amenities. So, if you want to reach the Millennials focus on mobile developments, offer them experiential travels and be prepared to explore new ways to take advance of Millennials’ spontaneity.

HOW WE HAVE CHANGED! Not so long ago Time magazine took the Millennials to its cover by calling them “lazy, entitled narcissists who still life with their parents”. It is true that they also told us how they are going to “save us all”. “Suddenly, as you may have noticed, millennials are everywhere” said The New York Times in 2014. The prestigious newspaper has praised them and today nobody in the consumer industry, nor of course in the travel industry, denies the tremendous public that young people born between 1980 and 2000. El Pais, in Spain, also published a fiery article in defense of this generation – “Do not ask forgiveness for being a Millennial” was the headline. There is no doubt, everybody loves the Millennials.

Tourism / Taleb Rifai, SecretaryGeneral of the UNWTO, gives his final farewell

Taleb Rifai says goodbye to UNWTO after a bright stage at the head of the United Nations organization for the travel industry. “Tourism is a sector of hope” says Mr Rifai in his final reflections on the tourism activity, focused on the Year 2017.

Dear friends, I write to you as I begin my final year as UNWTO Secretary-General, a position I have been privileged to hold for almost seven years at an Agency I have been proud to serve for the past decade. During this time I have seen tourism become one of the world’s most important and impactful socioeconomic sectors of our times. I have seen its growing relevance to the lives of millions around the world, to the preservation of our common values and to greater understanding among people of all walks of life. I have seen increasing commitment from the international 08

community, with many countries realizing the potential for tourism to become a pillar of their development. This commitment is attested to by the inclusion of tourism in the universal 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) agreed upon by 193 nations in 2015. And now I am very privileged and grateful to be celebrating 2017 as the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development. The UN General Assembly’s decision to dedicate 2017 to tourism’s contribution to sustainable and inclusive growth was no coincidence. Tourism is increasingly and rightly being recognized as a sector that can help usher in a better world. 2017 is a unique opportunity for us to promote the contribution of tourism to achieving the future we want – and also to determine, together, the exact role we will have tourism play in the sustainable development agenda, to and beyond 2030. Of course, many challenges

remain before our sector. Yet if there is one thing I will always remember from my time in this captivating and rewarding sector, it is that tourism is a sector of hope. Not only is it one of the most resilient economic sectors, but it also unites people across backgrounds, cultures and continents every day. Through travel, we gain understanding, tolerance, and empathy for our fellow man – essential in the globalization era, where our global village can only prosper through harmonious living. The tremendous hope that our sector provides should inspire us all to act for the good of people and planet. Together we can be the change we want to see. Let us all remember that whatever we do in life; our core business is to make this world a better place. I wish you a very happy International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development 2017. Taleb Rifai Secretary-General, UNWTO

2016 City Sightseeing New Destinations / We Show You The World!

The City Sightseeing Family is bigger than ever. The global brand is present in five continents with many of the most exciting destinations in the travel industry, even more with the additions of 2016 to our international network. City Sightseeing was already the most widespread multinational operator of city tours and in 2016 has extended this condition. Present in more than 100 cities across five continents, in recent months new and exciting destinations in Europe and America have been added to the international network of the company. Discover some of the exciting new tours operating under the global brand as from the year 2016: Kiel – Germany. The capital and most populous city in the northern German state of Schleswig-Holstein is one of the major maritime centres of Germany, located in the shore of the Baltic Sea. The maritime atmosphere is reflected in a view of the Kiel line and the Port of Kiel to the many sailboats, ferries and freighters in the Kiel Fjord. The comfortable sightseeing buses and their informative and 12

live audio commentary provide the travellers information about Kiel’s history and monuments as well as interesting facts about this vibrant city. The customers are able to create their own itinerary and take advantage of the Hop-On, Hop-Off stops Corfu – Greece. One of the most exciting islands in the Mediterranean sea. The sights to be seen in Corfu include the Old Town, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Venetian mansions and the water coloured buildings with the characteristic Corfiot ochre color. See more in pages 16/17. San Juan – Puerto Rico. One of the busiest cruise ports of the Caribbean, a colonial gem and a vibrant city. In his words / Fernando Martin – City Sightseeing San Juan San Juan

Fernando Martin Operations Manager CS San Juan

City Sightseeing had already been operating in 46 top cruise destinations when in September San Juan de Puerto Rico joined the family. As one of the busiest ports of the Caribbean, San Juan is now one of the outstanding destinations for City Sightseeing passengers.

1

The route “City Sightseeing San Juan connects the main attractions of the capital of Puerto Rico, including attractions such as El Morro, Fort San Cristobal, the Cathedral and Plaza Colon” The operation “We started with six sightseeing buses that we are extending to ten before 2017. In addition we will generate over the next two years 45 new direct jobs, plus an additional number of indirect jobs” 14

San Juan has been a destination long pursued by City Sightseeing to be incorporated into its portfolio, how has it been finally launched? Indeed, we have worked for years to get San Juan de Puerto Rico, one of the Caribbean’s most active cruise ports, to join the global brand. It is a strategic destination within this sector and also in the region, so we are very pleased to have made it possible. It is difficult to launch a new operation from scratch, because it is not just about designing the tour, creating alliances with other companies in the city, buying the buses and recruiting the team, it is much more: it is about bringing a city to a new service with a new philosophy as the Hop On Hop Off. We are all learning a lot and I am sure that soon San Juan will be one

of the most attractive destinations of City Sightseeing, which is what it is called to be. How do you see City Sightseeing contributing to San Juan? The economic situation here is complicated, but the potential of San Juan is very important and we are sure that with our service and creating synergies with other companies will be able to generate more jobs and more wealth in the country. What would you highlight about San Juan? This is a wonderful destination, everyone should know it. For its history, its beaches, its countless things to see and do. From here I encourage all operators of City Sightseeing and all readers of Top Deck to discover this authentic pearl of the Caribbean.

/ SAN JUAN PUERTO RICO HISTORY & FUN IN THE CARIBBEAN

/ Destination San Juan de Puerto Rico was founded in 1521, it is the oldest European-founded settlement in the Americas under United States jurisdiction. Indeed, Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the US – and this is one of the reasons why San Juan is so popular between the Americans. However, there are much more than open doors in this Caribbean destination, as you can enjoy through the two City Sightseeing loops. Old San Juan and Condado, where admire historical landmarks such as the Morro Castle, San Cristobal Castle, the V Century Monument, Plaza Colón, Capitolio and much more, together with La Carolina beaches and lively streets with restaurants and spectacular views to Caribbean white sanded beaches.

In his words / Manolis Papadogiorgakis – City Sightseeing Corfu Corfu

Manolis Papadogiorgakis Operations manager CS Corfu

City Sightseeing Corfu has joined the City Sightseeing Family, bringing to the global brand much more than a sun and beach destination. History, culture, breathtaking landscapes and lots to see and do in the shore of the Mediterranean Sea.

1 Joining City Sightseeing “Our membership in the family of CS has been proved as a strategic importance movement for our company, especially when we are - as a country - in a middle of a financial and economic crisis” A stunning destination “Corfu is an extremely popular travel destination of Greece, a unique island I could tell, much different compared to the other islands and towns of Greece” 16

What are your expectations as a new member of the family? Apart from the fact that City Sightseeing is the most recognizable image for a tourist, it offers us the possibility to develop our services and promote them worldwide in a way, that only an international corporate brand can do. Also through the procedures and the operational model followed by City Sightseeing, we expect Corfu services to become the first thought and priority in a mind of the tourist who visit Corfu. On the other hand, what is Corfu bringing to our international network? Corfu town has intense Venetian and Anglo-French elements in its architecture, which offers great attractions and sights to be seen, many alleyways and little streets, gardens and beautiful squares; also there many incredible buildings

2

with the characteristic Corfiot ochre color such as churches, library, Academy, theatres and museums, not to mention the imposing Venetian & English mansions, the famous Pontikonisi (Mouse) island and the Panagia Vlaherna Monastery at “Kanoni” area and so many others… In the commercial centre of the town there are many interesting and unique shops and various cafes, bars and restaurants. What about synergies with other operators? We have an immediate and direct plan to focus on a better and more efficient/effective promotion of our service through exchanging of promo leaflets, sales vouchers and tour packages, so we intend to approach and find a common ground with mutual interest in order to cooperate with other operators, both in Greece (i.e. Piraeus) and abroad (i.e. Kotor, Dubrovnic).

/ CORFU A MEDITERRANEAN GEM

/ Destination Corfu is one of the Greek territories that has never been part of the Ottoman Empire. Instead of that, the Venetians, the French and the British used to live in this lovely island with a glorious past. Today you can see this Western character everywhere. Admire its rich multi-cultural heritage, plenty of historic monuments and an Old Town inscribed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Its stunning natural landscape, crystal clear seas and excellent weather sum up to make Corfu a not-to-miss destination in the Mediterranean Sea. Renaissance, Baroque and Classical buildings, narrow cobbled streets, the impressive 15th century Old Fortress, palaces, churches and museums gather in a truly amazing destination.

Special Feature / City Sightseeing sponsors Seatrade Med and FCCA Conference

As the cruise market became more popular within the City Sightseeing international network, the global brand features in the most important shows of the industry. In 2016, City Sightseeing has sponsored two important cruise events in Spain and Puerto Rico.

From 21 to 23 September, City Sightseeing attended Seatrade Cruise Med in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Spain, one of the most important shows in the travel industry focused on the cruise market. Apart from the corporate booth in the meeting centre, the presence of the global brand stood out as one of the sponsors of the event. In Santa Cruz, Seatrade Med attracted 2,500 attendees including 400 conference delegates and over 100 cruise line executives along with more than 160 exhibitors. These figures stand Seatrade Cruise Med as the major biennial cruise event focused on the world’s second largest cruise destination – the Mediterranean and its adjoining seas. 18

Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which recorded over 300 calls with 644,000 cruise passenger movements in 2015, is one of the wide range of cruise destinations involved in the City Sightseeing international network. From 26 to 30 September, just one week after the superb exposure in Spain, City Sightseeing took part in the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) Conference. This four-day event is designed to foster a better understanding of the inner workings of the cruise industry and help attendees improve their cruise tourism business. Through a specialized forum that blends meetings and workshops with social functions, attendees have a unique opportunity to develop relationships with, promote

The success of the latest FCCA show in San Juan has encouraged the association to name the capital of Puerto Rico as the permanent host for the event from 2018. In 2015, San Juan received over 1.5 million cruise passengers. The extension of the pier allowed the arrival of large ships like the Quantum of the Seas, Anthem of the Seas and the largest ship in the world, the Oasis of the Seas. Special Feature / Big Exposure at the Most Successful WTM London Ever

World Travel Market London 2016 was the most successful ever with a joint-record attendance of 51,500 and the highest number of exhibitor invitees and buyers in the event’s 37 year history. Once more, City Sightseeing featured from its stand UKI250.

From 7 to 9 November, one of the most relevant events in the travel industry took place for another year in London. World Travel Market is one of the major trade shows that a global brand like City Sightseeing Worldwide cannot miss and there we were with our very own stand at the ExCeL convention centre. WTM London is always a great opportunity for us to catch up with our operators in over 100 cities – see on page 23 some of them who popped to the stand UKI250 and met the City Sightseeing team. Furthermore, this huge showcase is excellent for promoting the brand and our portfolio, and dealing with OTA’s, airlines, cruise lines and institutions – especially in the latest edition for a number of reasons that made it the most successful ever. 22

The new-look three-day event with extended opening hours from 10am – 7pm was phenomenally well received by the global travel industry with 51,444 senior industry executives in attendance – a 4% increase on last year, reveals unaudited figures. The increase takes total participant numbers back to the level of 2014 – a record for the event which launched in 1980. Furthermore, the key benchmark of exhibitor invitees and WTM Buyers’ Club members in attendance were also at record levels. WTM Buyers’ Club is the leading business club for senior travel industry decision makers with direct purchasing responsibility. The number of pre-qualified buyers from the WTM Buyers’ Club that attended the event stood at 9,714 – a 6%

increase on WTM London 2015. Total visitor numbers (excluding press, ministers, ministers’ aides and students) stood at 31,951 – a 5% increase on WTM London 2015. More than 865,500 on-stand connections took place over the three days of WTM London 2016 leading to more than £2.5 billion in industry deals being negotiated and signed. Furthermore, more than 3,000 (3,034) of the world’s media were in attendance – the highest number for more than ten years – making the WTM International Press Centre the largest recurring press operation in the UK. The WTM International Press Centre was moved to the exhibitor floor for the first time to put the media at the heart of the event.

> NEW CITY SIGHTSEEING EDINBURGH BUS FLEET

See below the City Sightseeing New York partner at Radio City Music Hall, Rob, and his wife Diane on NYC tour bus for their wedding. Isn’t it lovely? (Photo: Jaylim Studio)

In August, City Sightseeing Edinburgh unveiled a fleet of new vehicles which have been specially commissioned for the company to meet its accessibility and environmental standards. The new Euro 6 buses will reduce CO2 emissions by 40% compared to the previous tour vehicles and will reduce both NOx and particulates by 9599%. The vehicles are also fitted to a high specification with dedicated wheelchair and buggy spaces, coloured LED destination information display equipment, Wi-Fi and CCTV.

> GLASGOW WEDDING SPECIAL SERVICE

> CITY SIGHTSEEING ATHENS & CORFU WORK TOGETHER IN GREECE The City Sightseeing operators from Athens and Corfu, in Greek, have agreed exchange promotional materials, like xbrochures, flyers, banners etc, exchange of Sales Vouchers NB, and create a package for clients that we will visit both destinations. This is just an example of the understanding of bus tour operator within the City Sightseeing international network and we hope them a great success.

Katie Mone, 32, and Jonathan McCall, 33, from Paisley fell in love with the idea of the tour bus rather than a traditional wedding car after Jonathan proposed to Katie, his girlfriend of seven years, on-board a City Sightseeing Dublin bus in February 2015. “The bus holds a very special place in both our hearts and was the obvious choice for transport on our wedding day. It was the first thing we booked” said Katie.

> WEEKEND RADIO SHOW IN BRIGHTON City Sightseeing Brighton got the opportunity to raise its profile by taking part in recording for a weekend radio show with BBC Radio Sussex, which was spread across two weekend programs. Patrick Warner drove the tour bus himself and the star of the show, our Lead Driver Lynne came in on her rest day so we were able to enable them to have a private tour without disrupting normal services and tour reliability.

> CS PUERTO RICO STAFF

> MALAGA & NEW YORK CONNECTION

City Sightseeing San Juan in Puerto Rico is one of the latest operations joining the global brand. In the first months of operation they have been assisted by part of the City Sightseeing staff, as you can see in the picture above with Luismi Labrado and Silvia Perez.

In November we saw another example of collaboration within the City Sightseeing family. The Malaga city council made an advertising campaign in the rear back of the City Sightseeing New York buses and there was Isaac Flores from City Sightseeing Spain to assist the Malaga representatives during the launch. Once more, David Chien and his team gave them a warm welcome.

> GREETINGS FROM EDINBURGH “We are Magdalena and Tammie, we love our job, and enjoy meeting all the tourists who visit Edinburgh” says Tammie Millar. What a wonderful email we received from her! “I am a ticket seller at Waverley Bridge, I enjoyed reading the Top Deck magazine issue 13 and would like to give u a pic of me and my colleague to share in your magazine if possible”. Of course, Tammie, nice to hear from you!

> TIRELESS TRAVELLERS MET IN MOSCOW

> LOST-AND-FOUND GOODS IN BELFAST

Sergei Lavrentyev from Moscow, Russia and Jessica Rebstock from San Francisco, USA are probably two of the members of the CS family who have experienced more City Sightseeing operations. We usually receive pics from them visiting our wonderful destinations. For once, the two tireless travellers met in Moscow together with Nikolai Bragin.

“We have found a hat on one of our buses. If this is yours get in contact with us. Paul our street manager has it... don’t worry, he has his bath every month whether he needs it or not!”. Our colleagues in Belfast are always available to help our customers, including for lost-and-found goods, which is such a common issue in sightseeing buses.

> THE ENTIRE MANZANARES FAMILY

> IGNACIO, MERCEDES BECERRA’S SECOND SON

Roberto, the first son of our colleague from City Sightseeing Spain Fernando Manzanares, was born in Summer. Look at the happy family in a visit to the City Sightseeing’s headquarter in Seville.

In November, our team mate in Seville Mercedes Becerra gave birth her second son – Ignacio. See her lovely baby above in his first days.

Richard’s Ramblings Associate Editor’s Ramblings Having spent my entire working life (44 years) in education and the last 26 also in the transport/tourist sector, I concluded that enough was enough and finally fully retired on 1 September. However, I continue to drive for Stagecoach Bus UK when required on a casual basis. After partaking of Christmas Day dinner, I took the opportunity to reflect upon nearly 66 Christmas Days. Perhaps the two, which clearly outshone all the others, were those spent as part of the Christmas Day City Sightseeing London tours. On the first occasion, I was driving a feeder service to the main tour. The following year 2005 Carole, my daughter, and Sam, her partner, joined me. This time I was ticket selling and Carole was driving with Sam assisting her selling tickets. Special insurance arrangements were made because she was only 21. It was a long day. We had to leave Luton at 0600 to be at Purfleet for a 0730 open top bus convoy to London. Tours departed every 15 minutes from 0845 to early evening. With there being little else open in London on Christmas Day, it is understood that the tour buses did extremely brisk business all day. By the time we had returned to Purfleet to cash in and then driven back to Luton, we finally sat down to our well-earned Christmas Dinner at 2330! A microwaved re-heated Indian take-away followed by Christmas pudding was the cherry on the cake for what was an absolute brilliant Christmas Day! Certainly a Christmas never to be forgotten! Happy touring – City Sightseeing style!

1vacay2 – Naples. Naples is a fun city. It is so crowded that you wonder how you will ever get around. One good answer....A bus tour. At least to get you organized with the city. After that, you can walk anywhere. As busy as it is, it is really slow paced. People meander everywhere. Go to the Bay of Naples.
