Message from Enrique Ybarra President & CEO City Sightseeing Worldwide

Seville, Spain. The home of the first ever City Sightseeing operation which started on the 31st of March 1999

Dear Friends, I hope you are well and that, given the circumstances, it has been a reasonably good year for your operations. After many months of restrictions and difficulties, we have come from a period of effervescence in the tourism industry that has put us on the road to recovery. However, new variants of COVID-19, and consequently the application of new restrictions, threaten this recovery. The year comes to an end with the concern and uncertainty that this situation generates, however it may be the last episode of this terrible pandemic – WHO has declared that 2022 “must be the year of the end of the pandemic”. At City Sightseeing, we didn’t stop working for our global brand and your opertion and will continue in 2022 for everyone’s recovery. Tourism is a strong industry, contributing 10.4% of global GDP and generating more than 300 million jobs worldwide. It has also proven to be able to recover faster than other industries, so I am sure we will see a better situation in the months to come. In the meantime, I invite you to discover some of the projects and improvements we have put into practice since the last edition of Top Deck, together with interesting stories about the travel industry, the City Sightseeing Family, and our customers. I hope that 2022 will allow us to extend the momentum of recovery that has started this year. In the meantime, I hope you can enjoy the last days of the year with your loved ones and that you are all well. Yours sincerely,

2021: Tourism United, Resilient, and Determined 2021 has been a year of learning and adapting for tourism. It has proven that only by working together can the sector overcome challenges and embrace opportunities. For your interest, we share the UNWTO report on the challenges faced in the last 12 months.

G

athering the global tourism community and developing concrete actions, UNWTO has led tourism’s response with the vision of not only restarting, but doing so in a more inclusive, innovative and sustainable way. This is the story of one of the industry’s most difficult years, the beginning of the recovery.

January - March As global tourism faced up to a second year of unprecedented crisis, 2021 began by counting the cost so far. At the same time, however, the emergence of vaccines brought hope. Then, the industry explored what this meant for safe travel and the restart of tourism. April - June Collaboration and innovation were the focus at the start of the second quarter. UNWTO partnered with IATA on a new Destination Tracker to give both tourists and destinations clear, impartial and trusted advice. July - September As destinations in Europe

ON TOURISM SECTORS Cruise. The global cruise restart made a concerted effort on the part of the industry and its stakeholders. Retail. Travel advisors continue to go through cycles of booking, cancelling and rebooking. Hospitality. Hotels that saw rising demand could not always accommodate the number of guests they had space for because they were short of staff. Aviation. A year of both turmoil and recovery. Tours and River Cruise. Tour operators again turned to domestic products in 2021, whose departures could, by and large, be relied upon. Europe border openings and closings muddied the waters for river cruise operators looking to restart sailing.

welcomed tourists back for the peak summer season, the role of digital solutions for the safe restart of the sector was highlighted. But the industry also looked ahead, to a more sustainable future, in order to try to reduce plastic waste and consumption across every part of the sector. World Tourism Day was celebrated around the theme of Tourism for Inclusive Growth, a message of solidarity and determination that was echoed on a global scale. October - December The final quarter of 2021 began with cautious optimism as UNWTO’s Barometer showed signs of improvement in tourist arrival numbers during the summer season in the northern hemisphere. However, a new variant of the coronavirus called Omicron has spread rapidly around the world, increasing infections and prompting governments to impose new restrictions.

Trends brought to light by the pandemic The report ‘Trending in Travel’ shows the latest trends in traveller behaviour and future booking patterns in the wake of COVID-19. 08

W

TTC, representing the global Travel & Tourism sector, joined forces with leading global travel service provider, Trip.com Group, and its major consumer brands Trip.com, Ctrip and Skyscanner, to analyse consumer trends shaping the recovery of the Travel & Tourism sector. Latest projections show strong growth in international spending for 2022 and beyond, projected to overtake domestic spending in 2022, as more destinations ease restrictions and vaccination rates continue to rise. Following a 69.4% decline (2020), global international spending on travel is set to rise by 9.3% in 2021, and significantly by 93.8% in 2022. The report also reveals how severe and confusing travel restrictions around the world drove a significant rise in domestic tourism, with a surge in domestic

hotel bookings of more than 200% on Trip.com’s platform this year compared to 2019. Since the start of the pandemic, mobility restrictions have hindered international travel and, although domestic travel will provide a much-needed boost to the sector, WTTC says the return of international travel is critical to rebooting the global economy. The report focuses on booking trends, consumer considerations, and consumer profiles. It also features examples of markets whose resilience has provided a platform for the recovery of the Travel & Tourism sector. The report shows how COVID-19 has changed the way people travel; younger travellers are the first to return to travel; increased demand for longer stays; the importance of fee-free cancellations and the

demand for high levels of health and safety checks.

of this year compared to the same period last year.

To avoid travel restrictions, travellers are seeking secondary destinations, away from traditional holiday spots, as their destination of choice. This preference positively impacts local communities and livelihoods. According to Trip.com’s hotel booking data, Abu Dhabi (UAE) Chiang Mai (Thailand), Doha (Qatar), Florence (Italy), and Frankfurt (Germany) were the most popular secondary destinations in their respective countries in 2021.

The pause in travel also heightened consumers’ eagerness to travel more sustainably with more than eight out of 10 (83%) global travellers saying they would make sustainable travel a priority in the future.

The report goes on to show that, according to Ctrip data, bookings for ‘the great outdoors’ will predominate in the short and medium term. In China – one of the world’s largest travel markets nature-related attraction bookings increased by 265% in the first half

According to the report, 70% of travellers in many major countries such as the U.S., Spain, the UK, Canada, and Japan plan to spend more on travel in 2022 than they have in the last five years, including 2019 - one of the best years on record for Travel & Tourism.

09

Reinforcing this long-term trend, since its launch in 2019, the report shows 68 million travellers have opted to book a “Greener Choice” labelled flight on Skyscanner, a comparatively lower-carbon flight choice.

TIS 2021: “Restart the new ways of travel” From 10th to 12th November, Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) discussed in Seville, Spain, the paradigm shift in the travel industry. City Sightseeing featured as a Global Partner and shared the experiences of the brand’s operators.

I

n November 2020, Tourism Innovation Summit (TIS) became the first professional tourism face-to-face event taking place since the COVID-19 outbreak. One year later, TIS celebrated its second edition with the aim of analysing the paradigm shift in the travel industry, an economic engine that generates around 14% of global GDP and employs more than 100 million people worldwide.

together with leading companies such as Accenture, Amadeus, Telefonica, CaixaBank, Deloitte, Mabrian, EY, Mastercard, Evolutio, and Forward Keys, among many others.

The post-COVID-19 traveller is much more aware of and committed to sustainability, climate change and the environmental impact of their travel. And definitely, tourism companies must be ready to meet expectations.

Due to this partnership, the global brand had the opportunity to showcase at the exhibitors area, where we promoted our over 100 operations and the global brand, as well as the technology developed inhouse and with our tech partners.

City Sightseeing Worldwide supported this international event and featured as a Global Partner

The City Sightseeing brand stood out both at the exhibition centre and the auditoriums, as CEO

Back to WTM London After a break from its 2020 edition in a face-to-face format, WTM returned to London in November with a hybrid in-person and online edition where City Sightseeing once again came to promote the global brand and the 100+ operations involved.

C

ity Sightseeing Worldwide was once again present at World Travel Market, one of the largest and most influential trade shows in the world, after the global break caused by the COVID-19 crisis. This edition was very special for the brand as it was the first time we had participated in the London show since the opening of City Sightseeing London, which saw us with our own operation in the UK capital.

This year’s WTM London & Travel Forward editions featured as hybrid events that took place in person at ExCeL London on 1-3 November and in virtual format on 8-9 November. Exhibitors from more than 100 countries attended the physical events, which together formed the biggest travel trade shows to take place after the pandemic. There were 36 new exhibitors at

12

WTM London, along with up to 4,000 buyers from more than 140 countries attended the show in person. City Sightseeing showcased itself again after a 100% virtual edition in 2020. Our brightly lit stand stood out among the halls and served to reconnect with our partners in the industry. Returning to WTM London allowed us to catch up with tour operators, agents, airlines, cruise ship companies and much of our global network of partners, after a period of online contacts. The exhibition floors hosted the most senior executives and buyers from around the world, along with

At the forefront of the travel industry In October and November, the City Sightseeing brand was present at some of the key meetings in the travel industry in three different continents/regions – Asia, the Middle East, and Europe. A strength that benefits all operators working with the global brand.

T

he City Sightseeing brand is among the most recognised in the tourism industry and, as proof of this, the company is regularly present at the most important meetings of the sector’s organisations and events. In the last few months, we have been invited to participate in a number of international meetings alongside the major tourism companies. “New Ways of Generating Business” at ITB Asia The City Sightseeing brand was present at the latest edition of ITB Asia, hosted from 25-29 October in a mixed online and onsite format. City Sightseeing’s Founder and CEO gave an interview on “New Ways of Generating Business for Tours and Activities” which was broadcast on the 28th. In its 15th year, ITB Asia covered the key verticals in the travel industry such as Leisure, MICE, Corporate, and Travel Technology. With three shows in one event –

together with MICE Show Asia and Travel Tech Asia –, ITB has become Asia’s largest travel showcase. In its last edition, Asia’s largest travel registered 132+ countries and territories, 1,300+ exhibitors, 270+ thought leaders, 1,250+ prequalified buyers, and 27,000+ business appointments. At the 5th Anniversary of FII Institute in Saudi Arabia In October, City Sightseeing Worldwide was invited by the Saudi Government to attend the 5th Anniversary of the Future Investment Initiative (FII) in Riyadh. From 26th to 28th, a series of conferences took place with a focus on the next generation of leaders and changemakers. in developing and promoting its tourist attractions. At the end of 2022, Riyadh will host the WTTC Global Summit. At the Destination France Summit in Paris On 4th November, about sixty foreign and French leaders and organizations from the travel and tourism sector gathered with President Emmanuel Macron for the first edition of the Destination France Summit. City Sightseeing Worldwide was one of the companies invited to participate at the Hôtel de la Marine in Paris. The event focused on driving travellers back to the destination which before the pandemic, was the world’s most popular destination. These are just three examples from the last quarter of the year of City Sightseeing’s busy schedule as a regular participant in major travel industry meetings - and we will continue in 2022!

The CS Influencer Programme makes your operation viral At City Sightseeing, we are continuously working to promote the global brand and your operation. As part of this work, we are in constant communication with influencers on social media. And we will continue to promote our entire network!

T

he City Sightseeing Influencer Programme is an affiliate programme for all those content creators (whether on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, blogs, Youtube, etc) who want to share their experience on board City Sightseeing, giving an honest review of our service to their community. Who belongs or can belong to this project? This programme is focused on micro-influencers from all over the world (the UK is the most active market). A minimum

of 10,000 followers on Instagram is established. Although each case is assessed individually, looking at the reach and size of the community you may have on other social networks and/or blog. Once the influencer’s case is assessed, we offer 2 24-hour tickets (ICONIC) for a worldwide destination. The influencer also receives an affiliate link, to share with their community, either through stories, in their biography, blog, etc. Of all sales generated through that link, the influencer

will receive a 10% commission of the total sale price. In addition, we communicate with the influencer through newsletters to receive exclusive offers and promotions that they can use for themselves or for their community. All this is formalised through a contract signed by City Sightseeing with the influencer, which also provides basic guidelines on how the brand should appear. First cities showcased We have already received influencers in London, Glasgow, Brighton, Edinburgh, Stratford upon-Avon, Seville, Budapest and Cartagena. Both the global brand and the local operator benefit. When we send them tickets, we guide them on the official hashtags, Worldwide’s social media profiles as well as the operator’s profile. Social media has changed and at City Sightseeing we are continually exploring new ways to bring the brand and our 100+ operations to our customers in new and refreshing ways.
