Carefree Veterans Day Event

20th Annual Carefree Fine Art & Wine Festival

By Jess Moran

This year, pay tribute to our veterans in Downtown Carefree at the Sanderson Lincoln Pavilion (formerly Carefree Amphitheater). The free event will take place from 3-5pm on Veterans Day, November 11. The event includes veteran speakers who will share their military experiences, music by Don Morosic and his Main Event Swing Band. Packages from Home will be in attendance, accepting items that our oversees troops are in need of or cash donations to cover the shipping costs. Items in highest demand include toothpaste, lotion, eye drops, shirts, boxers, canned food and peanut butter. Take time to reflect on the sacrifices our veterans have made. Help Those In Need By Jess Moran

The winter holidays can be a contradiction. On one hand, it’s a time of reflection and expressions of affection for loved ones. On the other, it can be a maddening rush to include everyone in an expensive gift-buying frenzy. This year, why not take a step back, rally the gang and “adopt” a family less fortunate? The Foothills Food Bank helps families in need every holiday season and hosts an Adopt-AFamily program so as to make another family’s celebrations a little fuller. Families, soccer teams, bridge clubs, church groups and other groups can help shoulder a family’s hardships by taking on their holiday shopping. “What a lesson for our children,” says Jeanne Panhorst, co-chair of Foothills Food Bank. “Children are often so preoccupied with their own gift requests. Teaching them to put those aside and think about other children less fortunate will ultimately set their minds on living a more giving, and less selfish lifestyle.” Donors are matched with a family in need, and get to shop for and wrap that family’s Wish List. If time is an issue, there are food bank volunteers to do the shopping with a donor’s financial contribution. “Adopting a family can set a precedent that carries over all year long,” Panhorst adds. To experience the blessing of being a blessing to someone else this year, please e-mail adoptafamily2013@gmail.com, or call Jeanne at 480.595.8584. |CST

– ‘Don Draper,’ Mad Men

The month of November is traditionally a time for giving thanks. It is a time to celebrate with loved ones Celtic and to honor heroes. Festival There are so many wonderful events happening this month – Wild and Scottish West Days celebrate our state’s Western heritage; Hidden in the Hills Art Highland Tour celebrates the many talented artists who call the Northeast Valley Games home; and we will also pause to honor our veterans on November 11 with a number of events around town. There are pet adoption events, concerts, plays and art shows; fundraisers and festivals…the weather is gorgeous, it’s a great time to be in Arizona! Somewhere in the midst of all of the activity that leads into the holiday season, though, hopefully we will find the space to pause and find gratitude simply for being. It’s so easy to get lost in the striving towards something or the day’s to-do’s that we forget what we have. Enjoy the simple pleasures – hot coffee, cool blues, good friends, a loving family; a gorgeous sunset, an equally amazing sunrise; a loyal pet and fuzzy slippers…the things that make you smile and say, yes, it’s all right here. This Thanksgiving and holiday season, I plan on surrounding myself with my favorite people and a few of my favorite things and giving thanks for every single one – not wishing for something down the road, or regretting something that is gone, but simply being where I am, when I am and being darn grateful for it.

It is easy to forget how great we have it in the United States. It is easy for us to forget how few people today and throughout the history of the world have had the same opportunities and freedoms we do here in the United States. This is true, in large part, thanks to our Constitution. MAYOR To celebrate this important City of Scottsdale document, I held a Constitution Day 480.312.3111 Contest and invited all Scottsdale www.scottsdaleaz.gov school children to participate. I was overwhelmed by the response. I received 157 entries including essays and art in many interesting and delightful mediums. Scottsdale Fashion Square generously sponsored this event and supplied gift certificates to each winner and a reception was held at City Hall for all participants. Choosing one winner from each category (elementary, middle school and high school) proved to be very difficult. In the end, the winners were Jaywon Kim, Freshman at Scottsdale Preparatory Academy; Abby Davis, eighth-grader at Mountainside Middle School; and Marina Abdelmalak, third-grader from Yavapai Elementary. Marina’s essay stood out to all the judges. She and her family recently moved to the United States from Egypt and her essay was her personal account of the oppression and violence her family suffered because of their Christian beliefs. At eight years old, she truly understands how blessed she is to live in the United States and after a harrowing account of her life in that country, ends her essay with, “I have the freedom to learn, grow and achieve and become the best I can be. This is what the Bill of Rights means to me.” It is important for all of us to remember that our Constitution was founded on a simple yet revolutionary idea. The idea that government is beholden to the people, that it has no other source of power except the sovereign people. That government has no authority to grant people freedoms since they are not the government’s to grant. The idea that each of us is born free and that the sole purpose of government is to protect those freedoms. This is still the newest and the most unique idea in all the long history of man’s relation to man, and something I am grateful to celebrate with the students in our city.

Brown’s Ranch Opens

One of the McDowell Sonoran Preserve’s new jewels – the Brown’s Ranch Trailhead – is now open. A celebration was held last month for the acquisition of new land in the the northern region and the opening of new amenities, trails and trailheads. The trailhead is located on Alma School Parkway about a mile-and-aquarter north of Dynamite Boulevard. This trailhead features interpretive exhibits about the human history of the Preserve and serves as the major access point to the vast network of trails in the area. It provides access to such unique destinations as Granite Mountain, Cholla Mountain, Brown’s Mountain, Balanced Rock and Cathedral Rock. The Brown’s Ranch trailhead is a main entryway into the preserve’s unique northern areas. It features parking for 200 vehicles, plus an additional 24 spots for horse trailers. Drinking water, restrooms, an educational area and amphitheater are located at the trailhead, as is the soonto-be-opened Jane Rau Interpretive Trail. The trailhead and its network of new and refurbished trails provide access to the scenic Sonoran Desert. Visit www.mcdowellsonoran.org for more information.

It’s one of those topics that many people don’t like to talk about. When the last living parent passes, what is the best way to handle the contents of the house? Josh Levine, owner of J. Levine Auction & Appraisal, encounters families facing this challenge daily. “More often than not, we encounter families who are confused about the value of items in their parents’ homes,” Levine says. “Some things have appreciated, but many have devaluated.” Levine offers tips for this process:

SCOTTSDALE

J. Levine Offers Tips For Estate Challenges

• Make Piles: Divide the contents of the house into piles: charity, trash, heirloom and research.

• Draw Numbers: Avoid family fights by establishing rules. Draw numbers to take turns choosing items you would like to keep. • Consider Climate: If you’re cleaning out a home in a different part of the country, consider our hot climate. Some find wood furniture cracks in our desert climate. • Explore Selling Options: Do research before hiring an auction house and make sure you have an understanding of the auction process. J. Levine Auction & Appraisal recently brought back its “Thursday Nights in Scottsdale” estate auctions featuring a variety of fine art, vintage items, décor, estate jewelry, gold, silver, toys, electronics, rare artifacts and more. Preview for the auction begins at 4pm with refreshments, hors d’oeuvres and live music. The auction begins at 6pm and is located at 10345 North Scottsdale Road, Scottsdale. Since taking office 21 months ago, I have made building a strong economy that works for every Phoenix family my highest priority. If the Great Recession taught us anything, it was that our local economy was far too dependent on a narrow set of industries – and that to break free from the boom-then-bust cycle, we need a more diverse and sustainable economic base. We’ve made real progress on several fronts. Phoenix is investing MAYOR in education and workforce development; spurring new research City of Phoenix and development through the biosciences; and we’re cutting red 602.262.7111 tape to streamline the permitting process in the City. www.phoenix.gov A critical component to our long-term economic health is to leverage our city’s strengths and play a more significant role in the global economy. Our international economic development strategy is straight forward. First, build on our record as a foreign direct investment leader. And, second, better connect local businesses with the international marketplace to expand our export base and sell Arizona products abroad. We’re starting by building a closer relationship with Mexico. With more than $5.7 billion in annual trade agreements, our neighbor to the south is already Arizona’s strongest trade partner. But we believe we can do more business with Mexico. Since taking office, I’ve led four trade delegations to Mexico – working with local business leaders, the state and local chambers of commerce, the Greater Phoenix Economic Council and many more. NORTH PHOENIX

Valley Diners Check Out Nook Last month, North Valley residents welcomed a new dining hotspot – Nook, in the Arcadia neighborhood. Restaurant goers are greeted by a brightly colored blue front door where guests pull the handle to reveal a cozy waiting area, complete with a fireplace and cushy leather chairs, along with a retail space that diners can browse with a glass of wine while waiting to sink into a comfy booth, complete with homey butcher block tables.

Crafted by Chef Nick LaRosa, Nook’s menu features familiar Italian highlights like homemade wood-fired pizzas, a variety of bruschettas and entrées like the Pasta Crepe with grilled chicken, haricot vert and a roasted four pepper cream sauce. LaRosa’s menu is a mix of can’t-miss dishes. Not surprisingly, the veteran chef’s creativity isn’t limited to Italian influences. For lunch, diners will devour the deconstructed Asian salad with glazed salmon or skirt steak, along with the Halibut Tacos filled with fresh pico de gallo, pickled red onion, nappa cabbage, avocado, radish, Cotija cheese and roasted garlic

spicy aioli. Nook also features desserts designed by Tracy Dempsey, including Bread & Butter Bread Pudding, Ice Cream & Cookies, Affogato and Dempsey’s Chocolate Salami. Nook is located at 3623 East Indian School Road in Phoenix. For more information, call 602.651.1390 or visit www.nookkitchen.com.

That’s because Phoenix is uniquely positioned to leverage our growing population, talented workforce, infrastructure, tourism, pro-business climate and competitive operating costs to significantly increase exports and foreign direct investment. I recently made the case for Phoenix at the World Economic Forum’s annual “Meeting of the New Champions” in Dalian, China. In addition to making a presentation about Phoenix’s new approach to sustainability and urban revitalization, I met with more than a dozen international business leaders and Chinese government officials, and talked about our city’s strengths as a center for job growth and investment opportunity. Phoenix is a city on the rise – and we’re moving in the right direction. We’ve learned the lessons of the Great Recession, and with the right strategy, we can create an economy built to last.

Ruben has big ambitions for his future as a professional ball player, but the creative 11-year-old would also be happy as a coach or PE teacher.

More often than not, Ruben can be found outside passing a football around or shooting hoops with friends. He’s very active and has big ambitions for his future. “I play offense and defense. Most of the time I either slap the ball or I catch it,” he says, referring to his football tactics. “If we were to play tackle, I don’t think anyone could get me down. I’m hard to tackle.” Basketball is his second favorite sport and he enjoys playing video games like Grand Theft Auto and Madden Football. His career of choice: National Football League player and if that doesn’t work out he’ll turn to basketball. He would be happy having a job as a physical education teacher or helping out as a team coach if his initial plans don’t pan out, Ruben says. The 11-year-old likes to draw pictures of dogs, dragons, clowns and balloons. He recently had an opportunity to try a different medium at The Painters Lounge in Downtown Phoenix.

Shop owner Dina Murphy sketched out a friendly panda on a large canvas for Ruben to paint. His attention to detail while coloring in the blanks created a masterpiece he will hang on the wall of his bedroom, he says. “Ruben has a great imagination and is creative,” says Tilly Tafoya, his case manager. “He has a great smile and is a great child to talk with.” An ideal adoptive family would include older siblings and a structured environment, Tafoya says. “A prospective family for Ruben would be one with two parents or a strong male who can be consistent,” she says. “The family would have to have a very structured environment.” Ruben wants one older brother or sister and he would love a dog, too. Lance Headlee Renowned Arizona artist and designer Lance Headlee has created the official artwork of the 10th Annual Wild West Days for the seventh year in a row. “It’s an amazing event,” says Headlee. “I’m honored to be a part of the largest annual western experience in Arizona that celebrates our western heritage.” Headlee is well-known for his fine art portraying the contemporary cowboy of the Old West in bright and bold colors. Back in 2007, the Town of Cave Creek chose Headlee as the commissioned artist for the official Wild West Days limited edition print called “Stand By Your Man.” It sold out in the first two weeks. Since then, Headlee has continued as the commissioned artist for the annual event. His notable works now hang in homes and businesses throughout the country. He specializes in commissions for those customers looking for a one-of-a-kind piece. Headlee will be on hand on Saturday from 10am-5pm signing Wild West Days 2013 posters and prints, and selling originals in a special Wild West Days sale. Visit him in Downtown Cave Creek at Spirit of the West’s location at 6535 North Cave Creek Road. In addition, his poster can be purchased at select locations during Wild West Days. Headlee’s work can be seen online at www.lanceheadlee.com.

“Born in the USA” by artist Lance Headlee is the official artwork for this year’s Wild West Days.

Cave Creek Cactus Classic

Serving the Community Since 2002

We enter the season of giving thanks. There’s no other season quite like it. Debuting in 1621 with a gathering of recently arrived Pilgrims and native Wampanoag, Thanksgiving was elevated to a national holiday over 200 years later by President MAYOR Lincoln during the Civil War in 1863. Town of Cave Creek Thursday was the marker day in 480.488.1400 November. But the holiday bounced www.cavecreek.org Thursday around within the month until finally settling on the fourth Thursday. Cave Creek has much for which to be thankful. But we already know that. How many communities can say they live immersed in a natural ecological order outside their doors? We can’t take a step in Cave Creek without having a Darwinian moment with some creature – a wooly tarantula, a metallic-sheened humming bird, a deco patterned rattlesnake. Surveying the night sky, we view a cascade of stars flowing out of the confluence of rivers of stars. Morning sound effects from the feathered set mimic Mozart sonatas; evening tide rhythms tend towards the haunting and spooky dirges. Cave Creek’s population is barely 5,000 citizens. Not everyone knows everyone else. But if one of us is in trouble or in need, the neighbor you wave at but never really spoke with will be there for you. The Town’s tolerance for one another is equal to its passion for spirited discourse. This community we call home is unique. We don’t flaunt it. We celebrate it. Each day we give thanks. And on Thanksgiving Day we are grateful.

Formerly Cave Creek Bicycle Fest The Cave Creek Cactus Classic will be held November 9 with a 9am start time. mesas, well-preserved Hohokam Indian ruins and well-maintained hiking and mountain biking trails. Riders then proceed on portions of the Maricopa County Regional Trail to the 2,900-acre Cave Creek Regional Park. Riders will also pass portions of the State Trust Land the Town of Cave Creek is planning to acquire. November Highlights At Desert Foothills Library Monday, November 4; 10-11:30am World War II, a Legacy of Letters: One Soldier’s Journey Clinton Frederick returned to his grandparents’ house for a family wedding in 2002. In the attic, just as he’d remembered, were memorabilia from WWII. In a trunk under the rafters, Frederick made a discovery that would change his life forever. Inside were more than 100 letters written by his father, Captain George Frederick. WWII – A Legacy of Letters is a true story of love and war, and received The American Author’s Association’s highest rating. In it, Frederick discusses how he artfully wove together his father’s letters with historical information about some of the most important military campaigns of the war. Signed books will be available for a special price: $10 cash only. Tuesday, November 5; 12-1pm Art Nosh Lunch The Heard Museum Guild presents Arctic Art: Life on the NW Coast. Enjoy a nosh while being educated and entertained. For a complete list of scheduled Art Nosh topics, visit www.dfla.org. Limited seating. Registration required at

Longtime Cave Creek resident and businessman Dr. Kevin Harris knows what it’s like to multi-task – and he does it well. Harris has grown downtown Cave Creek’s Spur Cross Dental into a flourishing family practice for the past decade, while raising two children and keeping his creative side alive through art and design. The entrepreneur finds he likes keeping both areas of his life growing and changing. “For me, the art and dentistry go hand in hand because I have a real passion for both,” says Harris. Stepping into Spur Cross Dental for the first time, many patients have described it as walking into a western inspired gallery. The art is a mix of local and national western artists – as well as Harris’s own works. His assistant Trish is a valued member of his team and has been with the office for 22 years, starting with his former Scottsdale office. Returning patients have come to rely on the seamless teamwork they provide. On weekends you’ll often find Dr. Harris across the street from his dental practice at El Toro Loco home furnishings, where he enjoys working with homeowners, artfully designing furniture and assisting clients with art and home furnishings. “Cave Creek is the center of my world – where my businesses and family life come together. I love the mix and value the relationships I’ve made over the years,” adds Harris. Now celebrating its 10th anniversary in Cave Creek, Spur Cross Dental offers full family dentistry including crowns, veneers and Zoom Whitening. The office is open Monday through Friday. Spay/Neuter Clinic To Be Held Pets are homeless everywhere. In every community, in every state, there are homeless animals. According to the Humane Society, in the U.S., there are an estimated six to eight million homeless animals entering animal shelters every year. Barely half of these animals are adopted. Tragically, the rest are euthanized. These are healthy, sweet pets who would have made great companions. The decision to spay or neuter your pet is an important one for pet owners. Getting your pet spayed or neutered can: • Reduce the number of homeless pets killed • Improve your pet’s health • Reduce unruly behavior • Save on the cost of pet care Sanders Ranch Supply will hold a Spay/Neuter Clinic on Friday, November 15. Appointments are necessary. For additional information or to reserve your spot, call 623.374.5570. Sanders Ranch Supply is located at 20305 East Squaw Valley Road in Black Canyon City. Grand opening planned A new Scottsdale-based gallery is opening in the Downtown Arts District this month. Altamira Fine Art Az will feature work by select Altamira artists. “Our Arizona clients have been asking when we might “Big Wolf’s Lodge” open a Scottsdale gallery,” R.Tom Gilleon says Altamira director Mark Tarrant. “Now we can serve important markets in two locations.” The boutique, located at 7038 East Main Street, is an 1,800-square-foot gallery space that will fill a niche in the Scottsdale gallery scene, where few of Altamira’s artists have representation. Altamira Fine Art Az is located next door to LewAllen Scottsdale and Bonner David Gallery. A special focus of the gallery will be the secondary market, says Tarrant. The grand opening will take place Thursday, November 7 from 7-9pm, just in time for The West Select Western Art Invitational Sale and Exhibition at the Phoenix Art Museum. Altamira will feature the work of R. Tom Gilleon, Glenn Dean, and other select Altamira artists. Altamira Fine Art was founded in 2009 in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, by Tarrant, and specializes in Western Contemporary artwork. Visit www.altamiraaz.com.

HIDDEN IN THE HILLS

Hidden in the Hills Expected To Draw Over 10,000 By Katherine Koenig

‘Gunslinger’s Glare’ by Artist Randy Galloway

A Signature Event For The Southwest Eight artists return for 17th consecutive year “Original Poppy Garden” by Carole Perry

What started as a small neighborhood gathering has now grown into one of the finest art studio tours in the country. Eight artists will return for their 17th year in the event, and nearly 40 artists will participate for the first time. Artists Virginia Brooks (oil), Judy Darbyshire (ceramic), Katalin Ehling (batik), Morrie Elmer (wood), Dick Mueller (pencil), Carole Perry (glass), Robin Ray (ceramic/acrylic/watercolor) and Valentine (metal/ bronze) have participated in the tour every year since 1997. “The studio tour began as a home grown affair with local artists inviting their family, friends and neighbors,” explains Ray. “Several of us were doing home shows for the holiday season and thought working together instead of competing with each other would be a more positive experience.” Jewelry artist Allena Mistral is looking forward to her first year in the event. “After seeing my parents show in Hidden in the Hills for so many years, I decided that I wanted to share my art with the world,” she explains. “Seeing people come out to support the artist community is wonderful.” Also part of this year’s Hidden in the Hills Artists Studio Tour and Sale is the Youth Art Studio 1 Exhibition where artwork from local students in grades K through 12 will be on display from November 14 through December 3 at the Desert Foothills Library. The fifty exhibiting student artists were selected from the 100 entries in the Sonoran Arts League’s juried Celebration of the Arts exhibit held at Cactus Shadows Fine Arts Center last spring. The original work was photographed and will be displayed as a printed reproduction. For more information, visit www.hiddeninthehills.org. “Nursery Truck” by Virginia Brooks

For 17 years, the Sonoran Arts League’s Hidden in the Hills Art Studio Tour has been the best place for residents to get a chance to see artists creating in a studio setting. This year’s annual studio tour, which will be held the weekends of November 22-24 and November 29 through December 1, will provide ample opportunity for the more than 10,000 visitors to get up close and personal with their favorites. The self-guided Hidden in the Hills Studio Tour calls for art lovers to do a little driving so they can drop in on studios in Cave Creek, Carefree and Scottsdale to get to know the artists in their own environment. Participants can choose between 167 artists and 46 studios, creating the perfect opportunity to watch the artists in action, visit and purchase art from them directly. The range and diversity of artwork is another reason Hidden in the Hills is so popular with art lovers. There will be all kinds of art created as well as art on display during the tour. It will range from painting and sculpture, to pottery, gourd making, mosaics, photography, mixed media and more. Admission is free and studios are open to the public from 10am-5pm each day. For more information on the artists or to customize your route using the interactive map, visit www.hiddeninthehills.org. |CST

DISCOVER AZ WINES BY PEGGY FIANDACA Owner, Lawrence Dunham Vineyards President, AZ Wine Growers Association

Who doesn’t like a great party? After a long harvest season, Arizona winemakers are ready to celebrate the fruits of their labor. The Fifth Annual Festival at the Farm kicks the party season off in wine-style. For dinner parties, think about the number of courses and the different wines you will be pairing with each course. Typically, I serve my guests approximately fiveounce pours and at that rate, a standard bottle of wine (750 ml) will serve five guests. Most guests that drink wine with dinner will drink one to one-and-a-half glasses of wine per course.

Grand Arizona Wine Tasting Friday, November 15 • 6-8pm Quiessence Restaurant; Phoenix Tickets: $75.00 If you are going to serve wine, pour it in a wine glass and not plastic. The glasses don’t have to be expensive but invest in glass. To encourage mingling, set up the bar away from the front door so guests have to move through the room to get a drink. So open your house, plan ahead, pop a cork of a great Arizona wine, invite some friends over and party. It’s the season to celebrate.

Serving the Community Since 2002

The Farm at South Mountain in Phoenix is the back-drop for the annual festival that is limited to 1,000 guests where attendees taste more than 100 wines from 20 Arizona wineries. Ticket price includes the wine tasting, picnic lunch prepared by The Farm Kitchen and other tasty treats from local Arizona favorites, high-energy live auction and silent auction with great prizes and wine appreciation educational seminars. Friday evening, enjoy the award-winning wines from the 2013 competition, paired with dishes at the Grand Wine Tasting limited to 100 guests. The Festival is a great place to taste wines from around Arizona and to purchase wines for the holidays. When thinking about the holidays, here are some tips to determine how much wine to purchase for a cocktail or dinner party. Unless your guests are a group of guzzlers, there are some basic guidelines. Think about how long your cocktail party will last. Plan on a half bottle of wine per guest for every two hours they will be at the party. However, if you are serving other types of alcohol, or the event starts earlier than 6pm, you might need a half bottle of wine for every three hours. I have found that when my guests act as their own bartender the amount of wine consumed increases. Now if you own a winery like we do all of these rules go out the wine cellar door.

79

The Festival at the Farm Saturday, November 16 • 1-5pm Farm at South Mountain; Phoenix Tickets: $75 at door; $65 pre-sales; $60 AWGA members To learn more or join AWGA, visit www.arizonawine.org or tickets at www.azwinefestivalatthefarm.com.

Just within Arizona’s borders, you can find top-rated wine country, 5-star dining, scenic outdoor adventures, incredible arts and culture and so much more. By choosing Arizona, your money stays in the local economy to support Arizona jobs, services and vibrant communities. So get out and start exploring Arizona – you will be pleasantly surprised by what you find.

What Is Happiness And Where Can I Get Some?

Seasons

All of the things that we think will make us happy, a bigger house, more money, accomplishing a task, taking a vacation or getting the promotion, etc., all feel great for a while, but they are also all just temporary fixes and once the initial excitement wears off we are right back to where we started – searching for that next thing that will bring us happiness.

Has Volvo Gone to the Dogs?

Everything has a season. There’s a basketball season, football season, baseball season, hockey season, the “holiday” season, my High Holy Days season; even a Spring season, summer season…. you get the idea. So, the writer of Ecclesiastes – Kohelet, in Hebrew – was correct when he identified “a time for every experience under heaven.” Everything according to its proper season.

The Volvo line of cars, until recently, was considered a little boxy and vanilla. Boy has that changed! Just like dating, the physical attraction may not arouse your senses the minute you meet, but once you get to know that person, there is a vision of beauty and an ethereal connection. Remember it’s what’s on the inside that counts. Let’s take the Volvo XC60 SUV model as an example.

Is The Next Epidemic Already Here?

Convert PDF Files To Word Format

Diabetes is considered to become the next epidemic in our country, having increased by more than 25 percent in just the past 10 years. Seventeen million people are diabetic, and about one-third do not know it. Diabetics are at risk for heart disease, kidney disease, loss of a limb and blindness. National programs are in place to increase public awareness about preventable diseases like diabetes, and here’s my reminder to you that November is “Diabetes Awareness Month.”

Is there a way of converting a PDF file into a standard Word Document? How can I enlarge my Quick Launch bar buttons? I’m using Windows XP and my aging vision needs more assistance. What is the difference between Google Earth and Google Maps? Get the answers to these questions, plus discover where you can learn about your neighbors, your ancestors and webcams around the world with Mr. Modem’s Sites Of The Month – go online now.
