collaboration between a brick-and-mortar cooking academy and an active, online food community has blossomed into a beautiful relationship in the North Valley. The Arizona Culinary & Wine Center, a joint venture of the Classic Cooking Academy and the Artisan Food Guild, launched last month at the Academy’s Scottsdale home at 10411 East McDowell Mountain Ranch Road. “Artisans are those who are making unique products, by hand in small batches,” says Guild founder Roy Allen. “An artisan is a craftsperson, whether they are making food or are a stone mason or winemaker or coffee roaster – there is romance to what they do.” Celebrating these artisans is a driving force behind the Center. “We believe a designated culinary and wine center can play a major role in celebrating the diversity of foods and beverages our state has to offer, as well as recognizing the amazing people who create them,” explains Donna Dionot, who, along with husband and master chef Pascal Dionot, founded the Academy in 2007. Local food entrepreneurs will find support services through the Center’s new Test Kitchen and Business Development Center. A licensed commercial kitchen will be available for rent by individuals or groups, along with guest lectures and workshops presented by food, wine and healthy eating experts. “It’s all about celebrating something that we do every day,” continues Allen. “We eat and drink every day and this is an opportunity for those passionate about it to come together in one place.” Contact the Classic Cooking Academy at 480.502.0177 or visit www.ccacademy.edu.
