Natural Beaches “Sea is life” is not an overstatement. Three fourths of the earth is covered with water and an ocean habitat. The underwater world is the place of birth for countless first generations of living forms and home to thousands of species. “Natural beach” celebrates the purity of the ocean ecosystem; the underwater world serving as a sanctuary for fish and the beaches formed by corals as well as many other aspects the diverse and enchanting seawaters provide for. Both above and below the water’s surface, from beaches to mangrove forests and beach forests to underwater explorations, all are inter-connected in the most mythical and magical way that will entice you to explore further and won’t disappoint your curiosity.

“Reviving Coral Project” Most people have been thinking that coral is a plant rather than an animal. In fact, coral is an invertebrate similar to a sea anemone and jellyfish. Coral looks like a plant because it has several strong branches. Naturally, it produces limestone to protect its soft body. Since the sea has been affected by El Niño causing the rapid rising of the sea temperature, coral bleaching has occurred. Some corals could revive but others could not. When the number of the coral is lessened, the homes of small fishes are also diminished. As a result, The Royal Thai Navy decided to establish this project to revive the corals. According to several studies, Ko Kham has suitable ecology for

A tiny island which is not far from the coast of Sattahip is the navy conservation area. Therefore, the island is not invaded by civilisation. Unnecessary buildings do not exist here except toilets and small shelters. A one-day trip to Ko Kham needs to be booked in advance since activities involving conserving the environment such as growing coral are usually held on the island. Besides, the island serves as a small nature study classroom for people who want to learn about nature as well as for those who want a peaceful hideaway and need clean air. Wind yourself up with the clean beach of

Ko Kham or try exploring the island by rambling on the wooden pathway, which takes about half an hour. Another must-do activity is to explore the coral garden which is under the surveillance of the Royal Thai Navy. This undersea spot is utterly unspoiled. At the far end of the array of buoys is the swimming zone where sea anemones are abundant as well as tiny Nemo, which is an adorable and famous fish to most

growing corals as the seawater is transparent enough to allow the right amount of light into the water and the temperature of the water is rather stable as well as the degree of saltiness is perfect for corals to grow. Therefore, as part of this project, the navy team picked the finest breed of coral and started to grow them in PVC nurseries, then brought it to the deep water. The outcome was positive as the corals grew rapidly and healthily. As a consequence, this area has also become the hospital for healing coral reefs nearby. Coral reaching adulthood would be sent to the area where there is a lack of abodes for fishes as well as the unhealthy corals would be sent back to this hospital to heal then returned back to their origin to continue their duties.

Ko Kham belongs to Mu Ko Samae San in Chon Buri which is 4 km from the Ban Samae San shore, Sattahip, Chon Buri. The island can be reached by marine ship which departs from Thai Island and Sea Natural History Museum. On the weekend, the ship will depart at specific times and takes 15-20 minutes to reach the island. The return ticket costs 200 Baht for each passenger. “The guardian of the sand” The guardian which needs to be acknowledged is the tiny grasses on the beach which at first glance seems to have little importance for this island. ‘Spinifex littoreus’ is the scientific name of this kind of grass, usually grows up on the beach. As it is very durable to dry weather and can grow well on the sand, therefore, it is often found on the beach. Its duty is not only growing up to cover the sand but also to fortify sand ridges not to dissolve when waves and wind are heavily hitting the shore. In turn this sand ridge will protect us when the strong storm is approaching the beach. Spinifex littoreus is a tiny guardian which is just at the tip on our noses.

Ko Samae San, preserved by the Royal Thai Navy, is the home for sea turtles to hatch eggs, the abode for rare plants and the safe home for delicate corals. Most of all, this island serves as a classroom in the middle of the sea where tourists and students can experience and learn about the unspoiled nature. It takes only fifteen minutes to arrive on Ko Samae San. Several beaches are hidden amid the steep mountains. Among the five beaches on the island, Hat Luk Lom is the most beautiful beach because of the white soft sand similar to the beaches along the Andaman Sea.

Furthermore, the soft sand and crystal clear blue sea make it hard to believe that this island is just 2 hours away from the busy capital of Thailand. The name of this beach is called after the name of a type of grass which is found along the coast. This kind of grass has an uncommon look similar to an urchin. Sometimes the wind blows this grass away and it will adorably roll over on the ground. Not many facilities are available on the island. There are only a shelter and deck chairs and the breathtaking beach. However, these seem to be good enough to make us happy and satisfied.

The high-rising limestone mountains are the symbol of Khao Sam Roi Yot National Park. Khao Sam Roi Yot means mountains with 300 peaks which describe the landscape of this mountain quite well. The backdrop of limestone outcrops creates a contrast and unique scene of lofty mountains and sea enticing people to discover the startling mystery of this place. The Park encompasses a series of unspoiled beaches and coves. The viewpoint on Khao Daeng peak is another beautiful spot where you can enjoy a heavenly landscape as well as Khao Daeng Canal which flows through labyrinthine mountains passing along a mangrove forest into the ocean. Equally breathtaking are several caves; such as, Phraya Nakhon Cave which is well-known for its considerable size and uncommon big Karst Window. Inside the cave, there is a Thai - style pavilion built in honour of King Rama V the Great who visited this natural beauty. Apart from this cave, there are other caves called Tham Kaeo and Tham Sai where striking peculiar shapes of stalagmites and stalactites exist creating a distinct ambience. Within this national park, there is one of the most significant biological diversity areas, ‘Thung Sam Roi Yot Wetland’, which is one of the wetlands rarely found in Thailand.

Thung Sam Roi Yot is one of the most important wetlands in Thailand. In the past it was an inland gulf but later on sediment carried by wind or water deposited on the surface of the land and a sand ridge began to emerge; therefore, fosters the sea to move further away. Finally this area became a basin with a swamp. The wetland has rich diversity of natural habitants both plants and animals, especially rare birds like splay-footed Purple Swamphens. Uncommon plants like pink Sacred Lotus and green Narrow-leaf Cattail are found here. This place seems so quiet like no living creatures exist but when you listen more carefully, you can hear some noises from the creatures that you cannot see. “The journey of Chub Mackerel” Chub Mackerel (Pla Too) has been a favourite dish of Thai cuisine for a long time because of their abundance in the Gulf of Thailand. As a result, Chub Mackerel has become one of the major exported foods of Thailand. The key habitat of Chub Mackerel is in the Gulf of Thailand where Mu Ko Ang Thong is one of their breeding areas. It is no doubt why little fish like Chub Mackerel can become the important food to feed the entire Thai people. The underpinned reason is that this little fish can lay as much as 200,000 roe each time and it takes only 1 day for baby mackerel to hatch. Then they will swim to the north part of the Gulf of Thailand where the tide is calmer and safer for schools of fish as it is a closed sea. When the baby mackerel turn into teenagers, they will swim back to Mu Ko Ang Thong again to lay the roe. Then the repeated cycle begins over and over again.

Mu Ko Surin National Park

“The Moken’s Story”

Phang-nga Province

The very first second that a group of tourists jump into the sea of Mu Ko Surin, they will feel astonished to see clearly the abundance of exotic fish and healthy corals because of the great splendour of the transparent turquoise water. The fact that Mu Ko Surin is a part of the National Park, its natural environment ranging from coral reefs, a profusion of fish, the small trees on the beach to the deep rainforest on the hillside are well-preserved.

Apart from the widespread acceptance as the best sites for snorkelling, Mu Ko Surin National Park is praised by most tourists for the outstanding management in terms of quality and prices. Food and limited electricity are provided as well as accommodation for people who like comfort to stay in a bungalow situated in the midst of the forest. For tourists who are more down-to-earth might prefer to stay in the tent located nearby the beach. Diving is undoubtedly the main activity. There are more than 10 diving spots which can be fully explored within two days. In addition, the long- tail boat of the local fishermen who know well about the sea will bring you to the diving spots and let you enjoy a whole new world under the water. After visiting this marine Park, we are all certain that you will definitely fall in love with the aquamarine world.

The Moken is widely known as the Sea Gypsies. This tribe has a nomadic lifestyle. They usually travel from one island to another across the Andaman Sea. The Moken people still live their life peacefully similar to their ancestors by living harmoniously with the sea and speaking the traditional tribal language. Finding seafood is painless for them, as they spend most of their life in the sea. During the monsoon season, they stay on their fishing boats which in other words become their homes. After the monsoon is gone, they will move to the shore. The simple bungalows will be built just to protect them from rain and wind. Until the monsoon comes then, the same life cycle repeats year after year.

Because of this sacred ceremony, the totem pole was built to demonstrate their gratitude towards their ancestors. Even though the lifestyle of the Moken people is ultimately simple, when the Tsunami hit several countries in South East Asia in 2004, the Moken people who live and know the sea very well noticed a peculiar condition beforehand, therefore, were able to migrate to the high mountains and be safe from the Tsunami which killed thousands of city inhabitants who all had high technological equipment. Thus visiting Ko Phra Thong you will be close to nature by sleeping in huts, watching the sea and savanna, and sightseeing by car. The last activity makes Ko Phra Thong stand out from other islands. It’s hard to believe that you find a vast savanna on the island in the middle of the Andaman Sea which was named later as the Safari of the Andaman Sea. If we look at the sea fan closely, you will see that all the branches are connected to each other. Since sea fans survive by eating plankton that floats with the sea current, the wide shape of the sea fan is critical. The more sea fans stretch out, the more area they can find plankton to eat. Mangrove Forest

Ao Phang-nga Phang-nga Province The aerial view of Phang-nga Bay reveals an intricate line of canals and rivers meandering into the Andaman Sea. Like green velvet, the landscape of Phang-nga Bay is covered by Thailand’s largest mangrove forest situated against the backdrop of numerous limestone mountains. The scene creates a stunning example of nature’s architecture. The odd-shaped limestone mountains are scattered across Phang-nga Bay, making a cruise along the waters an excellent sightseeing experience for travellers. The mountain cliff was shaped and altered by the sea waves and the wind, transforming its contour into intriguing features; such as, Poodle Mountain, Crab’s Eyes Mountain, or Leaning Mountains. The sea at Phang-nga Bay is typically calm and still due to the surrounding mountains that act as windshields. In the olden days, sea travellers often used this landscape as a safe place to hide, as can be seen in ancient drawings of the cliffs at Khian Mountain. Villagers later built their homes on the shallow coasts lying behind Ko Panyi, what is now considered to be the only ‘floating’ community in Thailand.

Phang-nga Bay is home to the largest mangrove forest in all of Thailand. In contrast to the white sand and clear blue sea, the mangrove forest is covered by mud and unclear seawater that is home to many forms of aquatic life; such as, shrimps, seashells, crabs and fish. The mangrove trees are firmly rooted in the mud and help refrain the muddy soil from floating down the river. The dense mangrove is home to many forms of aquatic life during the early stages of their life cycle. Mangroves also serve as a natural barrier against Tsunami waves.

Mu Ko Hong or Hong Archipelago is one of the most striking and noteworthy unique rock formations. About 12 islets lay in line vertically stretching from the north to the south of Phang-nga and the Krabi sea. The shady silhouettes of the islands trigger the imagination of travellers and invite all to discover Mother Nature’s mystique. Amongst the numerous islands of the area, one large island seems to be constantly filled with travellers. The island has only a few beaches but offers plenty of room for travellers to set off on their kayaks, as they embark upon a sea adventure they will never forget with majestic limestone rocks as their backdrop. The place to be is a large lagoon nestled amongst the embrace of the surrounding mountains. The mountains encircling the lagoon are what gave this island its name, “Hong,” (which translates to “room” in Thai language). This mysterious geological phenomenon should not be missed or forgotten.

From an aerial view, the Krabi Sea stretches across our field of vision as a majestic picture of nature, dotted with an intricate pattern of limestone rock formations from millions of years back.

Magical ‘Room Lagoon’ The stunning lagoon is located on Ko Hong and can only be accessed through a narrow channel of water in the wall of the island. The intricate patterns of limestone rocks lining the lagoon are a sight of awe allowing the natural light to seep in and find its way through the hollow conveniently forming a cave. The lagoon’s most distinct feature is its particularly fragile cave – a result of the erosion of the limestone. Once the roof of the cave collapsed, the strikingly beautiful lagoon emerged in the middle of the mountains.

Travellers can enjoy kayaking and taking in the stunning sights of the island. The beach located near the National Park Ranger Station is a great starting point from which one can sail along the cliffs heading towards the lagoon located at the opposite end of the island. “Hornbills”

Hornbills are an endangered species for two main reasons: human encroachment and its mate-for-life philosophy. Hornbills are the creatures that worship love and monogamy; hence, the lesser chance to increase their population.

Eco Activity The other two tranquil beaches on Ko Phi Phi are within a walking distance to Maya Bay. One is Ao Lo Sama – a small bay with shallow coral reefs and colourful fish. The other bay is Pi Le which is a giant lagoon surrounded by mountains. A dive site along the limestone cliff wall called “Pi Le Wall” is also nearby where one can dive in to admire the beauty of giant sea fans that can be seen in shallow water.

Because of its stunning beauty, the earthly paradise of Phi Phi Le is almost too beautiful to be true. However, Phi Phi Le is 100% authentic beauty abundant with rare flora and fauna as well as the world famous Maya Bay. Grand limestone mountains embrace the white sandy beach and the entire bay, and the impressive Ao Maya shows no sign of human interference despite a large number of tourists that swarm in all day long on a daily basis. In the early morning, one can expect a scene of halcyon seas, white sandy beaches totally devoid of people and rare beach plants like beach morning glory and beautiful seashore screw pine. At Ao Maya, rare hornbills can be spotted to complete the perfect picture of the beach’s ecosystem.

Amongst the myriads of islets in the Andaman Sea, there are very few whose nature remains unspoiled. Bordering Krabi and the Trang Sea, Ko Rok was previously a challenging destination to reach; however, with present day travelling conveniences, Ko Rok can be easily reached within a day’s travel from Ko Lanta – a tourism hub of the bustling southern region of Thailand. Despite the swiftness of a speedboat, it does take some time to reach the pristine sea and lush scenery of this gorgeous mountainous landscape.

It has often been stated that the sea at Ko Rok is one of Mother Nature’s greatest accomplishments. The turquoise-coloured sea is crystal clear, and one can easily peer deep down to the depths of the ocean where beautiful coral reefs invite us to plunge in and embark upon a deep-sea, intimate underwater experience.

Ko Rok consists of two islands: Ko Rok Nok and Ko Rok Nai, separated by a narrow waterway. The beach surrounding the waterway is a sight to behold with its majestic sand dunes that beckon every passer-by to pause and capture a snapshot. The only indication of civilisation on Ko Rok is the office of the Mu Ko Lanta National Park Ranger Station, resident area and camping site. Land hermit crab

Land hermit crabs have a different respiratory system from other types of crabs. Therefore, they cannot stay underwater at all times. While the creatures need minerals from the sea, their real homes lie within the beach forest. Land hermit crabs are one of nature’s fascinating organisms that represent the diversity of the ecosystem on the island ranging from sandy beaches and forests on the shore to the vast array of plant and animal life found on the bottom of the ocean. Ko Rok has succeeded in keeping its glorious nature untarnished and intact, offering a peaceful sanctuary for all types of natural creatures. Nature Insight “Emerald green water The name “emerald green” describes the colour of the seawater inside the cave. However, scientifically speaking, the seawater has no colour. The emerald green is a result of the light reflection and absorption that leaves only the cool hues of green, blue and purple visible. The emerald green effect is further enhanced by the clarity of the seawater.

The name “Ko Muk” (Muk Island) may not sound familiar, but when it comes to the famous “Tham Morakot” (or Emerald Cave in English), many have heard of the renowned reputation this paradise on Earth has gained. The name Tham Morakot refers to a small lagoon in the middle of Ko Muk. The cave was formed following the collapse of the cave’s ceiling, which left a large hall in the centre of the cliff with an open roof. In order to reach the lagoon, one must be brave enough to swim about 80 metres through the dimly lit cave until emerging in the hidden lagoon. This majestic place is a sight to be seen, with the emerald green sea and dreamlike light reflections bouncing off the majestic cliff walls. The place is frequently filled with visitors from day in to day out beginning at 9.00 a.m. and lasting until 4.00 p.m., as tourists flock in by the boatload to admire the world famous Emerald Cave. Another option for those seeking a more private experience with the cave is to enjoy an overnight stay at “Hat Farang” (Foreigner Beach) – a small beach located in close proximity to the Emerald Cave that allows for a quick visit to the cave at any time, perfect for those wishing to have the cave to themselves for awhile.

Ko Tarutao & Adang-Rawi Satun Province.

Seaside PARADISE 49

Tarutao National Park consists of seven nearby islands located in the Andaman Sea. Ko Tarutao is the largest of the group and nearest to the coast. Due to its secluded area, the island was previously used as a penal colony for prisoners holding severe charges and rebels. As time passed, the island was deserted. The nature and ecosystem thrived as time moved forward and the island became fully developed. Turtles were able to enjoy having the beach to themselves for laying eggs without anyhuman disturbances. Ko Tarutao became a sanctuary for many species of sea turtles facing near extinction.

In addition to various kinds of activities, the island’s prison and museum are open to the public. The next island in the chain is Ko Khai, located in the Satun Sea. Home to a rock arch formed naturally by sea waves and erosion, this small island is known worldwide for its stunning beauty.

Next to Ko Khai is “Ko Hin Ngam”. The beach at Ko Hin Ngam is sandless and made of small dark coloured rocks individually shaped by the sea and the wind. The exotic, odd-shaped rocks resemble unique pieces of jewellery scattered all over the beach.

The channel in the middle of the island, locally called “Chabang pinnacle,” is known to be one of the best dive spots on the island. The current in the area is quite strong making the waters a suitable home for soft corals. Despite the torrential sea waves, the underwater world is truly spectacular and worth exploring. The last two islands are Adang and Rawi, best known for their pleasant beach atmosphere and habitat of land hermit crabs. Ko Rawi Beach comes packaged in fine white sand with a crystal clear sea and is home to countless coral reefs and colourful fish.

“Soft Coral”

One characteristic that makes the Andaman Sea such an outstanding and special place is the colours that add to the lovely hue and palette of the island: red, orange, pink and purple have deemed the island’s soft coral an eye-catching and iconic symbol. There aren’t many differences between soft coral and normal coral with a hard shell; the only one being that the soft coral can more easily absorb water, allowing for its plump shape and soft, supple branches to become flexible enough to move and catch prey. Therefore, soft corals are often found growing in areas of torrential currents. When the current loses its velocity, the corals release their water and the braches and stalks become increasingly softer.

Located near the furthest end of Ko Samet, Ao Kio is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful islands in the Gulf of Thailand. Ao Kio is an ideal destination for those seeking a holiday paradise, thanks to its fine white sands and secluded locations where hardly a traveller has stepped foot. The name “Ao Kio” (‘kio’ means small/narrow in Thai) speaks to the lands characteristic features as the opposing coast lines are incredibly narrow and separated by only a small piece of land. At sunrise, tourists can enjoy the sights of a beautiful dawn rising over the east coast and simply rotate their orientation to enjoy a romantic dinner while taking in the sunset over the west coast. There is only one resort available on Ao Kio making the island a perfect holiday choice for couples. The resort spans across both beaches and makes an ideally private kingdom for beach lovers.

There are two restaurants on Ao Kio; The Restaurant located in Paradee Resort serves Thai and international cuisine and allows for guests to enjoy the backdrop of the sea view. Sunset Bar is located on the west end of the Beach, a perfect spot to sip on a few holiday drinks and enjoy an unforgettable sunset.

Ko Racha Yai Phuket Province

If you are looking for a romantic hideaway island for your honeymoon, it must be quiet and beautiful with its long white sandy beach, clear blue sea, and lovely accommodation to boost up the romantic mood. All of these things can be found on Ko Racha Yai.

It takes only a half-an-hour boat ride from Phuket to Ko Racha Yai, but its beauty and tranquility are so different from Phuket. There are two renowned beaches on Ko Racha Yai, one in the west of the island is the beach of Ao Pa Tok, another in the north is that of Ao Siam. Both beaches are famous for their powdery white sand, crystal clear turquoise water, as well as romantic surroundings. Particularly in the late afternoon after the group of one-day-trip tourists return to the mainland, the ambience is back into serenity again. The beach is empty and you can clearly hear the sound of the waves. The seawater is so clear that no one can resist jumping into it. The sand underneath the sea is soft and powdery and clean which makes you feel like swimming in the pool. Deeper is the coral reefs scattered around the island. That’s why Ko Racha Yai is one of the greatest sites for snorkelling and scuba diving. Several romantic weddings have taken place on this island in a relaxing atmosphere. It confirms that the island is the right place for your unforgettable honeymoon.

Seaside PARADISE 121

Satun Province Romantic Places Far off the Andaman shore in the south end of the Thai marine border, a small island is situated in the midst of the infinite ocean. Ko Li Pe is such a tiny island which can be completely explored by feet. The island has a clean and extraordinarily soft and white beach. It is so small and so remote that its name does not appear in several maps of Thailand. Thanks to remoteness that allows the island to maintain its pristine nature and the islanders’ traditional lifestyle. It is common to see the monks dawdling on the beach in the early morning to receive alms from the islanders, children walking to school, and fishermen going fishing on boats. At the same time, Ko Li Pe offers a warm welcome to all visitors. The small number of resorts on the island is ideal for sweet couples to spend their special time in tranquility but not too lonely. The beauty of Ko Li Pe can be appreciated from early morning till night. The turquoise sea is so clear that you don’t seem to believe your eyes. The sand is powdery white and soft tempting you to stroll on it with bare feet. Time flies until the time of sunset. The orange light spreads all over the sky and reflects on to the sea while the sun gradually disappears. It seems that the sun does not look the same or does it look like this only at Ko Li Pe? Ko Lan can be seen easily from Pattaya which is its proximity. Thus, Ko Lan and Pattaya have something in common. Most people who come to Pattaya usually take a one-day trip to Ko Lan just to spend their time lying on the soft sandy beach or swimming in the clear blue sea. Some visitors may enjoy other fun activities. For those who choose to stay on the island, they will have fun doing other interesting things. Apart from marine activities, visitors can hire a motorcycle to ride across the island for sightseeing as well as to explore the fishermen’s village and observe the villagers’ way of life and traditions that have remained the same as they were in the past. However, some areas of the village have been adapted to be hip accommodation for visitors. Hat Ta Waen is the most famous beach on the island because of its long white sandy beach and the crystal clear water. There are plenty of restaurants, shops, deck chairs, and marine activities that draw visitors to this beach. Thus, the beach is a so-called hub of the island. Apart from the colourful activities and nature, Ko Lan is one of the islands that is closest to the shore and can be reached conveniently. Thus, visitors can’t afford to miss this island.

Turkish Ice Cream Delicious ice cream can go together well with the weather on Ko Lan. The Turkish ice cream is sweet and creamy. Its specialty does not stop at its taste. The way of scooping the ice cream is another signature of this shop which renders smiles on customers’ faces. The shop is located near the motorcycle renting shops. Jet Ski The best for challenging the waves in the vast ocean where the rider can go freely without any speed limit. Banana Boat Classic marine activity which is always fun for everyone. Snorkelling at Ko Sak Ko Sak is the neighbouring island of Ko Lan. Snorkelling at other islands needs to be booked in advance and the tour will depart early in the morning but on Ko Lan, it can be done anytime. Rush is a prohibited word on this island.

Ko He(Coral Island)

Phuket Province

This island is billed among foreign tourists as Coral Island because of its charming corals aplenty. Yet the Thai name of Coral Island (Ko He) can also describe the ambience of this island completely. Ko He is just a short boat ride away from Phuket, so the fun from Phuket is dispersed to this small neighbouring island. Apart from the clear blue sea, the island also offers alluring variety which is lively enjoyed by mass tourists who come to enjoy the fun activities and indulge in being sun-drenched on white sandy beaches.

Nevertheless, at dusk after all one day trip tourists go back to the mainland, the atmosphere changes abruptly to a pristine beach where the nature on the island is still unspoiled. Only two accommodation is available on this island where an electric generator is used instead of public electricity. Fresh water cannot be found on this island. The best quality of water available is brackish water. The unspoiled nature on this island invites rare birds like hornbills and hermit crabs which only inhabit in the undamaged environment.

Happy Route

Drive away from Hat Khlong Phrao for a while, you will arrive at Khlong Phlu Waterfall, the largest and the most popular waterfall on this island. The waterfall indicates the lavishness of the forest, as it still has a perfect level of water for tourists to swim all through the year. At the top of the island is Ao Khlong Son, the residential area of the locals where you can find coconut fields, rubber the plantation and orchard. Go deeper in the plantation area, Ban Khwan Chang or elephant village is there. Here you will meet giant and friendly elephants. Enjoy riding the elephant amid shady lush forest. This activity is much more appropriate than having the elephant show amidst the pristine surroundings. On the way to the south of the island, there is a viewpoint, situated between Hat Kai Bae and Hat Tha Nam (Lonely Beach), where you can fully enjoy the panoramic view of the sea of Ko Chang and several islands nearby. Not so far from the viewpoint is situated Tree Top Adventure where you will find adventurous and exciting activities in the tropical rainforest. Several activities are available; such as, Tarzan swing, rope bridges, giant zip lines and several other fun activities. Even though the activities seem to be thrilling, the safety of the customers can be 100% guaranteed.

Trat Province

Ko Chang is the second largest island in Thailand. It is connected to the mainland by big ferries conveying not only visitors but also cars. The beach, forest and fishermen villages offer different touches to this island inducing tourists to drive around the island to discover how the locals live. Beautiful beaches and Ko Chang are seen as a perfect twosome. What makes each beach different from each other is its ambience. Some beaches are very lively and packed with millions of tourists while others are quieter suited for people who swoon for privacy. Some beaches have a balanced atmosphere like Hat Khlong Phrao. It is ideal for a family getaway. A clean and clear beach has enough space for family activities. The sea level is shallow enough for children to get soaked safely. Superb accommodation, nice restaurants and other facilities can be found here and there. As the descriptions above, it is not surprising that Ko Chang has become one of the top tourist attractions which is popular among families where parents and kids have their good times and keep them as special memories.

One thing that must not be missed when arriving at this village is trying fresh seafood fare. Several nice restaurants with gorgeous views can be found everywhere. Try crossing to the other side of Ko Chang which is more remote to mass tourists. Ao Salak Khok is covered by plentiful mangrove forest. Here, the water tide is so mild that stroking an oar is no longer a difficult thing to do. The boat is made from wood in the traditional Thai style boat. The mangrove forest has a distinct atmosphere rendering a unique experience from other kinds of sea trips. Above and beyond that dimlight in the evening makes the atmosphere more fascinating. Having a special dinner on the boat is highly recommended since it is an experience you’ll never find from anywhere else. Happy Route

Around and Beyond Hat Jomtien – Hat Ban Amphoe Begin your next day with exploring the Underwater World. Here, you can make yourself familiar with different types of fishes. Some fishes are so colourful whereas some look like an alien coming from other planets. Do not miss the sensational show of feeding the sharks known as the killer of the underwater world. Enjoy your day at the Pattaya Floating Market which proudly presents the four regions in Thailand. You can wander to explore the market or paddle a Thai style boat in order to appreciate the old time atmosphere where you can experience the Thai people’s way of life in the past which was closely bound with the rivers. A variety of authentic Thai food, both familiar and unfamiliar, can be found here. Then try throwing yourself in a creepy moment by venturing in a traditional Thai ghost house. For those who like adventurous activities, try swinging the sling over the canal or throwing yourself in a giant water walking ball.

Next to the busy town like Pattaya is Hat Jomtien which stretches out seemingly towards Hat Ban Amphoe. Several tourist attractions, accommodation and restaurants can be found as many as in Pattaya. What acutely differs from Pattaya is serenity in this area. These beaches perfectly become golden locations for a family getaway. The parents might choose to chill out on the beach while watching their kids swimming and countering waves till they are all soaked up. A duck float is the uniform for the kids before jumping into the sea. Some families choose to drive around these areas where many tourist attractions are located along the way; such as, the Underwater World, the Floating Market, the vineyard to taste fresh grapes while others may bicycle in the lovely garden to visit temples exquisitely reflecting the Oriental culture.

Change your mood to appreciate the Dhamma at Wat Yanasangwararam which is a must-see temple. This is one of the royal temples endorsed by the Supreme Patriarch of Buddhist monks. The temple has several beautiful sites yet the most outstanding architecture is the Indian style pagoda. The nearby area is Wihan Sian, serving as a museum to display art works given by the Chinese government including bronze statues of goddesses, sculptures, and ancient paintings. This Chinese temple reflects the long-lasting relationship between Thailand and China. Especially archaeological finds, terra cotta sculptures, depicting armies of Qin Shi Huang, the first emperor of China which were built approximately 700 years ago. On top of that the Chinese government never granted these sculptures to any other nations but Thailand.

Equally picturesque is Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden covering over 600 acres. It combines many styles of gardens in one place; such as, French, flower hill, cactus, palm, pottery, Bromeliad gardens as well as a zoo. Renting a bicycle seems to be ideal for people who want to fully explore Nong Nooch Garden. End the night with the show from Alangkarn. Alangkarn means flamboyant and phenomenal in Thai. Here, you will be stunned by the dazzling show with flamboyant lighting and a variety of special effects rendering performers dancing in the air as if they can actually fly. Khao Chi Chan is another amazing place to visit. This mountain was a high-rise mountain but later it was dynamited for the sake of its stones to be used for building purposes. Thus, only half of the mountain remains. Then the mountain was preserved and was engraved by a laser into the image of the Lord Buddha which is 100 metres in height. Adjacent to Khao Chi Chan is Silverlake Vineyard. No one ever believes that the land in Pattaya is appropriate enough to grow grapes. Grape products from this yard are surprisingly luscious; such as, grape jelly, grape jam and grape juice. Hat Hua Hin Prachuap Khiri Khan Province Happy Route

Around and Beyond Hua Hin

Turning back to the time when our grandmother was still young, Hua Hin was the one and only beach resort in Thailand exclusively suitable for noble and rich families. The train was the most modern transportation to travel to Hua Hin at that time. 100 years ago, Hua Hin was nothing more than a small and remote fisherman’s village. Thanks to the development of the railway, Hua Hin has gradually become well known for its nice and clean beach. It has attracted more and more sea lovers to come every year up until now. As time goes by, Hua Hin has maintained its popularity along with the mushrooming of modern luxury hotels and resorts. Nonetheless, old style buildings and wooden beach houses which are well preserved can provide a sense of classic Hua Hin. Another sister town of Hua Hin is Cha-am. When Hua Hin is adorned by several tourists, this affection disperses to this nearby town. However, these twin towns do not have everything in common. Cha-am still has a seemingly long beach road which is easily accessed by the locals who catch and sell fresh seafood products straightaway to the tourists for their own living. People’s life in Cha-am is simply simple while those of Hua Hin is more noble.

Nowadays, Hua Hin is easily accessed by car or train but it is classic to travel by train to the point where our grandparents first arrived at Hua Hin. That’s “Hua Hin Railway Station” which is known as the most spectacular train station in Thailand. Besides the daily trains, there is the old train which is no longer used and has been transformed into a train library. This library contains a lot of books donated from across the world. Located nearby the Railway Station is the Royal Hua Hin Golf Course which is Thailand’s first golf course. It is a part of the history of Hua Hin and has been a dream destination of many golfers. When travellers arrive at Hua Hin, the first thing that comes into their minds is accommodation. The Railway Hotel is the first grand beach resort in Thailand which is currently known as the Centara Grand Hua Hin. This hotel preserves its classic and unique style that always brings to mind the picture of old time Hua Hin. A short walk from the Centara Grand, tourists can enjoy a public beach where sand is nice and clean. However, strolling on the beach is less fashionable than riding on horseback. This evokes the old time ambience when riding a horse on Hat Hua Hin was an activity for the rich and noble people. For buying Thai style gifts, Khomapastr is an ideal place for you. Both traditional and contemporary fine Thai printed fabric is sold here. It is guaranteed that you find only the finest gifts for all the people you love. Craving for Thai traditional desserts which are increasingly hard to find nowadays, Mae Kep is the perfect shop for you. This shop still uses the traditional stove for cooking the desserts which gives the aromatic scent and succulent taste.

Tourists can take an elephant riding tour to enjoy picking grapes at their own pace. After being tired from picking grapes, The Sala is a nice restaurant which offers delicious food and a magnificent vista of the Hua Hin hills. Driving to the opposite direction of Hua Hin, Cha-am is not far. Along the classic sweep of golden sand beach as well as colourful deck chairs, tourists can just sit and relax, swim in the sea, or eat fresh seafood sold by the locals who carry their merchandise with them. Another choice is eating in the cozy restaurant situated at the end of Cha-am Beach near the Fish Bridge, the hub of all fresh seafood (cheaper than Hua Hin). On the way to Cha-am, tourists can visit Mrigadayavan Palace, the former summer palace of King Rama VI. Its architecture is both elegant and traditional. Later on, it became the model for the first wave of beach houses in Hua Hin. In the evening, PlearnWan is a lovely place to visit. It is a model market replicated from the old time bazaar. Traditional style candy, record shop, locally produced liquor, ferris wheel, merchandise sold on an old time carriage and ice desserts can be found. Another traditional activity to do at PlearnWan is to watch a film at the outdoor cinema. Fancy indulging in an oldie atmosphere, retro style rooms are waiting for you to spend the nights. Every Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, Cicada Market is up for business. This trendy market in a pretty garden has various homemade products to offer; such as, hand-painted shirts, one and only homemade bag, painting, home decoration items, other accessories and the hit musical instrument like Ukulele.

End your day with a visit to Laem Phrom Thep that is located at the southernmost tip of the island. It is the landmark of Phuket which serves as the most beautiful viewpoint to watch spectacular sunsets. Sam Ao Viewpoint

Phuket has a lot more to offer apart from the beaches. Phuket town has several interesting attractions; such as, the Big Buddha built in contemporary style, situated on the peak of Phuket from which you can see this handsome island in a panoramic view.

Big Buddha Wat Chalong

Close to Phuket town is Wat Chalong, one of the oldest temples which was built in the reign of King Rama V the Great. Apart from exquisite architecture, tourists might be amazed by the ruins of a brick wall that seems to contrast with the fine architecture of this temple. The debris is the old wall of the temple which local people devoutly built and donated to the temple.

Do not forget to stop at the “Phuket Zoo”. The kids would be excited to know how fast the cute monkeys can ride bicycles. Not to miss the elephant show which seems like a gymnastic show. Over and above is the crocodile show, the predator of the river. Then drive through old time Phuket composing of Sino-Portuguese styled buildings which have been well-preserved, especially Soi Rommani, the highlight of old town Phuket. The buildings on this street were renovated to be a contemporary style rendering a lively ambience. In the same neighbourhood is the centre of local food, Lock Tien Local Phuket Food Centre where you can find several local Phuket-Hokkien foods. If you come to this place, you will fully acknowledge the gourmet culture of the Phuket people. For tourists who want to learn more about the traditions of Phuket, visit the Phuket Thaihua Museum. This place used to be the first school in Phuket that taught Chinese. Currently, the museum is the hub of essential facts about ancient Phuket concerning trading, relations with China, mining and culture of the Phuket people.

Heading north of Hat Rawai for the “Seashell Museum” in which you find different types of rare seashells in Thailand. A must- see is the fossil dating back 400 million years ago and don’t miss the shells spiralling anti-clockwise which is only 0.1% of the whole shells’ population in the world .
