saPa set high in Vietnam’s northeast mountains, the hamlet of sapa offers spectacular views of jagged mountain ridges, terraced rice paddies and green valleys inhabited by people of various ethnic minority groups. Each group has its own distinctive style of dress. From early childhood, girls learn to grow and weave hemp, to dye cloth with indigo, to sew the family’s clothes, and to decorate items with traditional embroidery motifs. more recently, sapa has become a tourist mecca. as expected, hill tribe vendors follow you and are persistent in persuading you to buy their handicrafts. if you buy from one vendor and other vendors see you making purchases, they will attempt to sell you their products too. if you’re not interested, just say ‘no’ and ask your tour guide to walk you away.
mai CHaU nestled in a valley amongst verdant hills in the northwestern highlands, mai Chau’s stunning scenery offers excellent opportunities for trekking and mountain biking while providing a glimpse into the village life of the Hmong and White Thai ethnic hill tribes.
Hanoi Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, is the second most populous city in the country with approximately 4 million people. Compared to Ho Chi minh City, Hanoi is more traditional and refined. This is a city where the exotic chic of old asia blends with the dynamic face of new asia, the medieval and modern co-exist. While it is rapidly

developing, the city has retained many of its cultural traditions. For example, you can observe the elderly people practicing Tai Chi by the lake or witness traditional festivals during the Lunar new year. specially, Hanoi has a vibrant “street culture” where daily activities, such as hair cutting and eating at food stalls, take place on cramped sidewalks. as Hanoi is becoming more populated with people and automobiles, the city is experiencing more traffic congestion, particularly in the old Quarter.
HaLong a visit to the northern of Viet nam is not complete without experiencing the spectacular views of more than 3,000 limestone karsts in Ha Long bay. designated a World Heritage site by UnEsCo in 1994, this mystical landscape of limestone islets is often compared to guilin in China or Krabi in southern Thailand. sculpted into strange shapes by the wind and weather, the karsts hide deserted beaches, many magnificent caves, and hidden lagoons that may only be reached by chinks on the cliffs are revealed at low tide.
HUE While imperial rule ended more than six decades ago, as the former imperial capital of Vietnam, Hue still holds the treasures of Vietnam's royal past and is a curious mix of bustling streets and tranquil settings. From 1802 to 1945 Hue was home to 13 nguyen emperors, whose palaces and tombs provide fascinating glimpses into the luxurious and secretive world of the court. during this period, the imperial City was built according to the practices of Feng shui
that dictates the location and shape of spaces in harmony with both the physical and spiritual. Visitors may explore the redlacquered pavilions of the Citadel, wander through ancient garden houses, or feast on delicacies once served in the royal palaces.
Hoian Located near the coast in the central Vietnam, from the 16th to 19th centuries the riverside town of Hoian once drew merchants from as far as Japan, india, indonesia and Europe who bought the area’s silk, spices and porcelain. Hoian owes its easygoing provincial demeanour and remarkably harmonious old-town character more to luck than planning. its beautifully preserved old Quarter, the streets with old tile-roofed shop houses, shady pagodas and colorful communal halls make it such a cristine ancient beauty and become a World Heritage site by UnEsCo. in addition, Hoian is surrounded by attractive countryside where you can observe the traditional life of farmers and fishermen.
nHa TRang Located in central Vietnam, the sun-washed town of nha Trang is well known thanks to its pristine beaches, excellent view, gorgeous islands, mountains, and rivers. Clear blue seas dotted with offshore islands offer excellent opportunities for getting a dose of sun, surfing, diving, fishing and snorkeling, while the town itself is home to some interesting sites, including a massive white buddha statue and a cluster of Cham towers built between the 7th and 12th centuries.

PHan THiET Phan Thiet is a large fishing village best known locally for its fish sauce production. Located 200 km from Ho Chi minh City, Phan Thiet is a gateway to nearby beaches which are popular for both local and tourists alike. mui ne, a nearby resort town, has 21 km stretch of sandy beaches lined with hotels, resorts, restaurants, and nightclubs. mui ne is subject to onshore winds from the south China sea and is especially breezy from november to may, which may not be ideal for swimming but is popular for wind and kite surfing. other attractions in the area include the white and red sand dunes, Po Klong garai Cham tower, and ocean dune’s golf Club, a 6746-yard par 72 course designed by nick Faldo.
daLaT set in Vietnam's picturesque Central Highlands, this quiet town boasts cool mountain air, some of the best-preserved French colonial architecture in indochina, and stunning natural beauty. year-round, the temperature hovers around 20˚C (68˚F), making this a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts. mountain bikers and hikers will delight in the area’s trails, as well as in views of pine-covered hills, organic farms, lush tea and coffee plantations. dalat hosts a flower festival every year which normally taken place in mid-december for one week and features a flower exhibition and a flower parade around xuan Huong lake.
mEKong dELTa being well known as a Vietnam’s ‘rice
basket’, the mekong delta is a watery landscape of green fields and sleepy villages, everywhere crisscrossed by the brown canals and rivulets fed by the mighty mekong River. Farmers cultivate paddy fields, tend their orchards of tropical fruit and fish in the rivers and canals, offering an ideal opportunity to adopt the pace of local life, choose to slow down and cycle along the flat roads of the delta. you may also choose to visit a farmer’s home, try your hand at fruit picking or explore the myriad waterways on a loud one engine boat as used by locals for their daily transportation.
saigon The city’s dynamic energy is apparent in the bustling street scenes with thousands of people on motorbikes constantly on the move. although saigon has rapidly developed into a modern city with skyscrapers and shopping centers, there are still visible remnants in the historic landmarks and beautiful French colonial buildings dotted throughout the city. in saigon, you will still see women dressed in Vietnam’s traditional ao dai tunic stroll past modern trendy boutiques and crowded cafes. What is more, you will be amazed at the great nightlife and some of the best shopping centers in southeast asia in this vibrant, fast-changing city. The city is home to people from all aspect of Vietnamese society. observing the dynamic life in this vibrant city which was once considered “Pearl of the Far East”, joining in a unique mix of culture from many regions along Vietnam, all ensure new interesting experiences for tourists. From saigon you can also make a day trip to the Cu Chi tunnels and Cao dai Holy see temple.
PHU QUoC isLand Located off the tip of Vietnam’s south coast, Phu Quoc is a heaven for nature and sea lovers looking for a place to unwind. The island is considered “off the beaten track” as it remains remarkably undeveloped. Phu Quoc’s virgin forests and pristine white sand beaches make this an ideal place for trekking, diving, and snorkeling. The infrastructure remains basic with dirt roads and a small number of four-star properties. if you’re looking for a relaxing beach getaway without any distractions or a noisy nightlife then Phu Quoc is the worth attraction to visit.
Con dao isLand Con dao, or Con son if referring to the main island in this 16-island archipelago, is possibly the best kept secret in Vietnam. Currently virtually undiscovered - except by the ex-prisoners of the south Vietnamese regime who return to visit their places of incarceration prior to 1975, Con dao offers stunning virgin forest, deserted tropical beaches, unique sea life, forgotten prisons being consumed by the jungle, and the possibility to experience a castaway lifestyle without any of the pains normally associated with life 180 kilometers from land. The Con dao archipelago is an ideal place for nature lovers and an opportunity to visit unspoiled tropical islands before they become developed.

Home of angkor Wat, one of the greatest religious monuments in the world, siem Reap is a charming tree-lined city with a narrow river flowing through the center of town. While most visitors spend their time exploring the ancient temple ruins, there are plenty of other diversions in town. The Tonle sap Lake (and river), considered the heart of Cambodia, is located near here and boat tours offer visitors a glimpse into the traditional Khmer way of life. Floating villages, sunset cruises and tours of the bird reserve of Prek Tuol are all worthwhile.
Kratie is a port town on the mekong River, roughly halfway between Phnom Penh and the Laos border. This small provincial town has good examples of sumptuous colonial architecture and is home to a rare and endangered species of river dolphins. Traveling around Kratie provides an interesting opportunity to discover a peaceful rural Cambodia with beautiful villages, lush vegetation and serene monasteries.
baTTambang
This lively port on the banks of the mekong is a mix of the old and the new, with colonial architecture as well as some interesting temples (including Wat nokhor and Wat Kohear nokor). outside the provincial capital, on the other bank of the mekong River, is Chhup, a rubber plantation that was first established in the region by the French tire maker michelin.
The second largest city in Cambodia, battambang is located on a rich and fertile plain, which provides much of the rice and other important crops for the country. The sangker River cuts through the town center, which is filled with colonial and shop house architecture. The region has numerous angkorian and post-angkorian sites. some of the most interesting are the Wat Ek and Phnom banon (both 11th century suryavarman i).
KomPong THom Kompong Thom is a small town located on the banks of the stung sen River. it is the base from which to explore the archaeological site of sambor Prei Kuk. Located 35 km from the city, the ancient capital of Chenla still contains 100 temples from the pre-angkorian period (7th century) which are surrounded by lush forest.

KomPong CHam
PHnom PEnH Located at the confluence of three rivers the mekong, the bassac and the Tonle sap, the capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, considered one of asia’s undiscovered gems. This small colonial capital city maintains considerable charm. There are many sidewalk cafes, established along the riverfront, invites the visitors for a rest. in addition to such tourist sites as the Royal Palace, the silver Pagoda, the national museum and Wat Phnom, there are several markets selling silk, silver, gems
Cambodia
and antiques. also worthwhile is a visit to the notorious "Killing Fields" and Tuol sleng museum, which chronicle the unfortunate years under the brutal rule of the Khmer Rouge.
KamPoT Kampot is a pleasant town on the banks of the lovely Kamchay River. The nearest seaside resort of Kep is located 30 km from Kampot. This beautiful coastal area was once the favorite holiday spot for Cambodia's French-influenced elite during the turn of the century. The town is once again developing a reputation as an appealing retreat with quiet beaches and wonderful seafood. Kampot is also a base for excursions to bokor Hill station and the abundant green Elephant mountains. The national Park is famous for the beauty of its forests and waterfalls and from the long abandoned hill resort of bokor, the visitor can enjoy an amazing view of the gulf of siam.
siHanoUK ViLLE sihanouk ville, Cambodia's only deep-sea port, sits on a peninsula with beaches and tropical islands around. although tourism has increased over the past few years, the lovely beaches of sihanoukville are some of the most unspoiled in all of southeast asia. it is a perfect tropical getaway, with facilities for swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving or just sun-bathing. boat trips are also available to many of the nearby islands. There
are
several
hotels
and
local
restaurants serving fresh, delicious seafood on the beach.
KEP Kep is a seaside tourist city located 173 Kilometers south west of Phnom Penh. Kep appears to be experiencing something of a renaissance, with several mid-range and luxury guesthouses and bungalows recently opened or still under construction. The seafood is cheap, plentiful and delicious - particularly the quite famous crabs. Kep is also home to an extensive national park covering some mountains with deep green jungle.
ban LUng affectionately known as ‘dey krahorm’ after its rust-coloured affliction, ban Lung provides a popular base for a range of Ratanakiri romps. it may look like autumn all year round, but it’s just that the leaves, like everything else, are cloaked in a blanket of dust. Fortunately the dust is becoming less of a problem within town as more and more streets are sealed. The town itself is busy and lacks the backwater charm of sen monorom in mondulkiri, but with attractions such as boeng yeak Lom just a short hop away, there is little room for complaint. many of the minorities from the surrounding villages come to ban Lung to buy and sell at the market. The town was originally known as Labansiek before the civil war, but the district name of ban Lung has gradually slipped into use among locals.

Cambodia can be visited throughout the year. However those planning to travel extensively by road should avoid the last two months of the rainy season when some countryside roads may be impassable. The climate is tropical and distinguished by three major seasons. The most pleasant season is the dry season from november to march, which temperature is cool of an average of 20-28oc. The hot season lasts from april to may (average temperatures 30-35 c) and from June to october is the rainy season, which we here like to call the green season, during which temperature is relatively cool (average 25-30oc). at this time of year it rarely rains in the morning. most precipitation comes in the afternoon and even then sporadically. Rainfall varies considerably from area to area. Whereas the seaward slopes of the south-west highlands (Kompong som and Kampot provinces) receive more than 5,000 mm of rain per annum, the central lowlands average only about 1,400 mm

KHmER nEW yEaR (14TH - 16TH aPRiL 2014) The Khmer new year is officially celebrated for three days. Families clean their houses on the first day and prepare many varieties of traditional food that are blessed by local monks. on the succeeding days, Cambodian buddhists make merits in the temples and play traditional games. on the final day of Chaul Chnam Thmey, Cambodians bless each other with a sprinkling (or splashing) of water in the same tradition as Thailand’s songkran and india’s Holi (although indians use paint). PCHUm bEn FEsTiVaL, FEsTiVaL oF THE dEad (3Rd To 5TH oCT 2013) The Khmer Festival of the dead runs for 15 days and culminates on ancestor day or dak ben. This festival is dedicated to blessing the spirits of the dead and is one of the most culturally significant in Cambodia. much like the Filipino practice of “Visita iglesia” or church visit, Cambodians try to visit at least seven pagodas during the festival
to offer food to their departed and light candles to guide the path of the deceased to the offering. They also scatter rice-sesame seed mixtures on the ground to feed the hungry spirits of ancestors who roam Pchum ben. WaTER FEsTiVaL (17-18TH noV 2013) The water festival (bon om Thook) marks the reversing flow of Tonle sap River and also ushers in the fishing season. The highlight of the event is the boat races that are held over three days (in Phnom Penh and siem Reap). When the night falls, fireworks light the sky and a lighted flotilla of boats sail aloft for good luck. People from all walks of life gather on the bank of the Tonle sap for several days and nights. The population of Phnom Penh seems like double during this festival.
spontaneous gathering of 1,250 monks to pay homage to buddha. seeing this as an opportunity to preach, buddha laid down the three precepts of the religion to the monks in attendance: perform good deeds, refrain from doing harm, and cleanses the mind. This buddhist occasion is celebrated by both monks and the lay who participate in candlelit processions around the nearest temples in their vicinity.
mEaK boCHEa FEsTiVaL (14TH FEbRUaRy 2014) Held on the full moon of the third lunar month, meak bochea is the commemoration of the RoyaL PLoUgHing CEREmony day - (28TH may 2014) being a highly agricultural country, Cambodians celebrates the start of their rice planting season seriously. in a throwback to mid-13th century, Cambodians celebrate “Pithi Chrat Preah neanng Korl” by ploughing the fields with sacred cows and divining the coming planting season based on what the cows ate afterwards. This ancient ritual is continued to this day by the representatives of the king who perform the ceremony in Phnom Penh.

LUang PRabang Luang Prabang's riverside setting, gleaming temple roofs, lush green surrounds, crumbling French provincial architecture make it one of asia's most captivating destinations. Embarking on a boat journey to visit the Pak ou Caves with its fascinating collection of buddha statues, witnessing monks collecting alms at dawn and soaking up Luang Prabang's laidback atmosphere and natural beauty are the most worthwhile activities you should do to explore this city. in addition, wandering the colorful night market where local hill tribes sell their wares or participating in some cooking classes are enjoyable ways to gain insights into Lao culinary methods and traditions.
xiEng KHoUang Province of high mountains, karstic formations and green valleys, xieng Khouang is the gateway to the mysterious plain of Jars, where scattered in the middle of the meadow, jars of all sizes can be seen. nobody knows the origin or purpose of these stone jars which are several thousand years old and weight up to 3 tons for each.
ViEnTianE Known as Laos' sleepy yet charming capital, Vientiane is a delight to uncover due to its beautiful setting on the mekong River, crumbling French mansions, bougainvilleaÂŹ-blooming streets and steaming noodle stalls, and a wealth of interesting architecture and monuments. Come to Lao, the tourists have a chance to learn more about Lao culture by participating in a baci blessing ceremony, visiting sparkling Wat That Luang and climbing the Patuxai monument, the arc de Triomphe. Top of a day exploring the capital is an obligatory sunset drink by the mekong River.
PaKsE Pakse is one of the biggest towns in Laos and a major transport hub for southern Laos. it is a good base for travel to the bolaven Plateau where coffee fields and waterfalls galore await, the idyllic river islands of si Phan don, also known as 4,000 islands, eco-tours, trekking and village stays in sepian national Protected area, the angkor temple complex Wat Phou, and to the indigenous villages and waterfalls of the Tad Lo area of Lao ngam district, salavan province. in town, the tourists can explore the local market, admire Pakse's remaining French-colonial architecture, and enjoy a sunset drink on the riverfront and watch the world drift by.

Laos FEsTiVaLs boUn KHao PHansa (20TH JULy 2013) boun Khao Phansa marks the beginning of the traditional three - month buddhist Lent, which commences at the full moon in July and continues until the full moon in october. Through this festival, buddhist monks are forbidden to travel anywhere. They must stay in their own temple to study buddha’s teaching as well as meditate. They pray for assistance and guidance to encourage merit and happiness in their lives. These months are special time for ordination and for men to enter the monkhood for short periods before they marry. boUn KHao Padab din (31sT aUg 2013) This festival is devoted to remembering and paying respect to the dead. it is marked by the macabre ceremony of exhuming previously buried bodies, cleaning the remains, and then cremating them on the night of the full moon. Relatives then present gifts to the monks who have chanted on behalf of those who have passed away. boUn THaT LUang (16TH noV 2013) boon That Luang is a Lao buddhist celebration and the largest national holiday in Laos.
