CRUISING FOR THE
EXPLORER IN ALL OF US
Travel should be so much more than just a trip, and we believe the best way to understand a country is through enrichment. On our cruises, you truly explore your destination — through its food, culture, countryside and customs. Perhaps you accompany the ship’s chef on a trip to a local market; go behind the scenes at a famous theater company; or even view private collections and hidden vaults at world-class museums.
We have a history of providing our guests a way to get below the surface, not just “check off” each port. That’s why our ocean cruises are centered around where you go, not just how you get there — with handpicked itineraries so you can immerse yourself in history, music, art and cuisine — everything about your destination. In addition, we include excursions led by knowledgeable local guides in every port of call. You learn about the lands to which you travel via enrichment lectures that bring history to life; through cultural adventures; in-depth pre-trip materials; and on-demand programming — all designed to help you experience the most from your travels.

SHIPS BUILT FOR DISCOVERIES
Classified by Cruise Critic as “small ships,” our sister ships are designed to be the very best way for you to experience your destination. They are scaled for easy embarkation/debarkation on shore excursions; designed for less/faster tendering to allow you more time in port; and carefully crafted to be small enough for direct access to cosmopolitan cities and smaller “collector ports.”
ARTIST’S RENDERING, AQUAVIT TERRACE
ARTIST’S RENDERING, EXPLORERS’ LOUNGE
Expand your horizons on our elegant ships — genuinely human in scale and thoughtfully designed by experienced nautical architects and designers to enrich your interaction with your destination in every way. We’ve crafted our ships down to the most minute detail, from the serene Wintergarden, perfect for a calming cup of tea; to The Spa, a Nordic sanctuary of wellness; to the Explorers’ Lounge, the ideal place to relax and take in the scenery.
ARTIST’S RENDERING, INFINIT Y POOL
Since every part of your ship was crafted to maximize your destination experience, we didn’t just create a pool, but instead made it a setting for exploration. Here, you find one of only a few oceangoing infinity pools, designed to give you a sense of swimming right in your destination. In the evening, the space transforms into the Aquavit Terrace, where you can dine with music playing and watch the world unfold. 10

E V E RY DE S T I N AT ION HAS ITS OWN FL AVORS… TASTE THEM ALL
Food is an integral part of travel, and few things say as much about a destination and culture as its cuisine. At Viking, we celebrate dining both on shore and on our ships. Our three new ocean vessels put the spotlight on fine dining in their restaurants, from American classics to regional specialties — often from the very places you’re sailing. Imagine sampling an authentic osso buco and sipping prosecco at the domes of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, or sipping aquavit and savoring gravlax as you glide through Norway’s breathtaking fjords. And, so you’re always close to your destination, these ships offer more al fresco dining than any other at sea. Heart-healthy and vegetarian options are also always available. Whatever your tastes, you’ll find that dining aboard is more than just sustenance; it’s a part of your journey.
ARTIST’S RENDERING, THE RESTAURANT
ARTIST’S RENDERING, WORLD C AFÉ
Because we know our guests are travelers of extraordinary tastes, every dining option on our Viking ocean ships is designed to delight and inspire. The Restaurant, our signature dining venue, offers our widest choice, with a daily-changing menu highlighting regional specialties, ever-evolving to reflect the seasons. In fact, it’s likely the chef was at a local market that very morning, choosing the best produce from the very people who grew it. But that’s only one option among many. The Chef’s Table presents an intimate experience and an extraordinary tasting menu, each course paired with a superb wine. At The Italian Grill, the cuisine of Tuscany is highlighted with authentic antipasti and perfectly grilled steak fiorentino. Throughout the ship, you’ll discover thoughtfully composed menus that blend the inspiration of our chefs with the best ingredients and local preparations. And, of course, our Viking Concierge is always available to recommend a great local restaurant.

Historic Southampton and London. One of England’s most celebrated maritime cities, Southampton boasts the country’s longest surviving stretch of medieval walls. Just up the Thames, London does some boasting, too. Here, in one of Europe’s great cultural centers, you can see the Tower of London, Parliament and Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Buckingham Palace and St. Paul’s Cathedral. Or, opt to explore the Standing Stones of Stonehenge. Le Havre. Gateway to Paris. From historic Le Havre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site on a Seine River estuary, take a scenic drive through Normandy’s countryside. Your destination is the heart of Paris. You’ll have time on your own to ascend the Eiffel Tower for sweeping city views, or marvel at the Gothic glory of Notre Dame Cathedral. Or, choose to pay homage at D-Day beaches or stroll the pretty quay of the artists’ town of Honfleur.
Lisbon. City of navigators. With its stunning setting on the Atlantic Ocean, Lisbon has inspired explorers for centuries. Its labyrinthine streets carry echoes of 16th-century kings and navigators who sailed on the winds of the Age of Discovery. Explore some of those streets firsthand: In the timeless Alfama district, stroll the narrow warrens of the city’s oldest neighborhood, and in the Bairro Alto, walk in the footsteps of the city’s wealthy merchant class. Barcelona’s easy-going splendor. Kissed by Mediterranean breezes, Spain’s Catalonian capital is a feast for the senses. Long strolls on wide boulevards — such as Las Ramblas and the Passeig de Gràcia, lined with stunning architecture—set the tone for a city that moves to its own tempo. There’s a lot to linger over here: small-plate tapas, a glass of bubbly cava and the magical buildings and parks of architect and favorite son Antoni Gaudí.

Breathtaking beauty of Geiranger. Magnificent deep-cut fjords lead to the UNESCO Site of Geirangerfjord and its namesake town. For a remarkable panorama, ascend to the 2,000-foot Eagle’s Bend. Your thrilling drive curves through 11 hairpin turns, with views of the stunning Seven Sisters Waterfall and lush, towering slopes. At the Norwegian Fjord Center, delve into the region’s spectacular natural history. Later, explore Geiranger with ease; we’re docked just 100 feet from town. Art Nouveau Ålesund. Spread across several islands that stretch into the sea, Ålesund boasts a unique concentration of Art Nouveau architecture. Its graceful buildings were born from tragedy; a fire destroyed the town in 1904. German Kaiser Wilhelm, who vacationed nearby, helped rebuild in the day’s Jugendstil style. Admire its stylish streets on an included walking tour. Or, you might explore the outer town’s wooden villas and ascend Mount Aksla for incredible views of Borgundfjord.
Orkney Islands. Land of Vikings and earls. Before playing a key role in Scotland’s earldom, the Orkney Islands were ruled by Vikings from the 9th to 13th centuries. Today’s capital city of Kirkwall boasts an impressive collection of 17thand 18th-century houses. Visit the ruins of the French Renaissance Earl’s Palace, with its finely carved ornamentation, vaulted windows and great hall. Or perhaps explore Neolithic sites with standing stones older than Stonehenge. Edinburgh’s classic beauty. The battlements of Edinburgh Castle have overseen this graceful city for centuries. Take in its rich history at the National Museum and admire its classic beauty along the Royal Mile, the celebrated avenue linking Edinburgh Castle and Queen Elizabeth’s occasional residence, the Palace of Holyrood. They look over it still — a drapery of medieval houses and neoclassical buildings among rocky hills overlooking the sea.

FJORD, NORWAY TUSCANY, ITALY
Barcelona’s grace and whimsy. Barcelona brims with history, stunning architecture and rich culture. The city’s Columbus Monument salutes discovery, the rose-red Arc de Triomf innovation. Both seem to have been at work in the mind of Antoni Gaudí, the surrealist architect who transformed Barcelona’s cityscape with his famously unfinished La Sagrada Família Cathedral and the fantastical works along the Passeig de Gràcia. Rome. City of emperors. More than 2,500 years of history live in the streets of Rome. Ancient structures recall the heady days of empire when the cheers of 80,000 spectators roared from the Colosseum, and senators asked the gods for guidance in the Pantheon. With the Vatican and St. Peter’s Basilica, this rich pocket of Italy is one of the world’s greatest repositories of history and civilization.
Dubrovnik. Pearl of the Adriatic. With its spectacular Adriatic setting, gleaming 12th-century medieval streets and incredibly preserved structures, Dubrovnik is a historic jewel. The ancient city’s Stradun, or main thoroughfare, literally shines from the footfalls of centuries. The Sponza Palace and Dominican Monastery provide insight into the ages. For a red-rooftop view over it all, take some time to walk the ramparts of this magnificent Old City.

Elegant Venice. The medieval archipelago of Venice spreads out over 118 small islands. It is a wondrous patchwork of graceful piazzas, crisscrossing canals, artful footbridges and Venetian Gothic splendor. All things Venetian begin in St. Mark’s Square where its elegant campanile, or bell tower, rings over the rooftops. For elegance of another sort, you might journey into the Emilia-Romagna countryside to tour the Lamborghini factory, home of the ultimate luxury sports car.

Venice’s glittering Doge Palace. Ornate and elegant, Venice’s Doge’s Palace was the power center of the vast Venetian Republic. Its Venetian Gothic style adds a sumptuous element to St. Mark’s Square. Richly ornate designs decorate floors and brighten ceilings. Lavish paintings by Titian, Tiepolo and others adorn walls. It seems nothing was left to understatement in the Doge’s residence, as you’ll see during your tour. Dubrovnik’s Dominican treasures. In the heart of the Old City of Dubrovnik, the historic Dominican Monastery holds many secrets. It may look like a fortress from the outside, but inside it’s a haven of tranquility that’s been part of Dubrovnik’s spiritual life for centuries. The magnificent GothicRomanesque church draws the devout, and its library houses a precious collection of illustrated manuscripts and Renaissance art.
Athens. Cradle of civilization. Athens has been called the “birthplace of democracy,” and its Acropolis the “center of debate and civic life.” It’s no surprise, then, that you’ll feel its presence throughout your tour of Athens’s modern political emblems: the Hellenic Parliament, Constitution Square and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.

Intoxicating Istanbul. Straddling Europe and Asia, Istanbul exudes a heady mix of Western and exotic culture. One of the city’s most stunning centerpieces is Hagia Sophia, founded as a basilica, converted to a mosque and is now a spectacular museum featuring exquisite mosaics and frescoes. For a rich taste of Turkish culture, visit the Grand Bazaar, the world’s largest covered market; wander among its dizzying selection of carpets and fabric, and sample luscious dates or the local favorite, Turkish Delight.

Barcelona’s most affluent address. Barcelona’s toniest street is the Passeig de Gràcia. This graceful avenue was once a simple rural lane at the edge of the city. In the 1820s it emerged as an aristocratic thoroughfare where well-heeled Catalonians showed off their horse-riding prowess. Today, it’s celebrated for its famously ornate benches and street lamps and stunning architecture, including Casa Milà and the whimsical work of Antoni Gaudí.
Pisa’s Square of Miracles. From an emerald-green countryside dotted with cypress trees to Renaissance treasures, Tuscany boasts endless delights. Explore Pisa’s unrivaled architecture, beauty and culture. The famed Leaning Tower, one of architecture’s great curiosities, was built to serve as the bell tower for the adjacent Pisa Cathedral and Baptistery. Together, these breathtaking structures comprise the Square of Miracles, a sacred complex for the devout.
France’s glittering Riviera. The playground of Europe’s elite, the French Riviera is an intoxicating blend of glittering resort cities, seaside promenades and stunning Mediterranean vistas. We call on two ports here. From graceful Toulon, you might explore the tranquil Provençal countryside of wine, cheese and lavender. In Monte Carlo, witness glitz and glamour at the Prince’s Palace and visit the tomb of American actress-turnedprincess Grace Kelly in St. Nicholas Cathedral.
Rome’s mix of past and present. For centuries, Rome ruled much of Europe with the might and power of its emperors. Today, the city is a remarkable blend of ancient and modern. Vespas whiz past the 2,000-year-old Colosseum; the Pantheon overlooks streets lined with designer shops. Marvel at piazzas, fountains, monuments and cathedrals that span the ages. Behold the magnificent St. Peter’s Basilica, where even today’s Pope Francis weighs ancient traditions against a modern world.

French-flavored Tunis. The capital of Tunisia, Tunis, is a dazzling mix of North African tradition and French colonialism. The modern city boasts a wide, tree-lined avenue affectionately called the “ChampsÉlysées.” Just outside Tunis, explore the ancient city of Carthage, established over 3,000 years ago. For a sample of medina life, you might browse the ancient souks of Tunis with electric passageways of intense color and scents.
Medieval Mallorca’s unspoiled charms. Spain’s stunningly beautiful island of Mallorca is a mountainous paradise of pine forests, almond groves, gorgeous beaches and charming villages. It’s easy to understand what so inspired Polish composer Frédéric Chopin, to write music here in 1838. Medieval remnants are as plentiful as scenic splendor, as you’ll see within the city walls of the island’s capital of Palma and along the lovely lanes of the village of Valldemossa.
Ancient treasures of Sardinia. Long a Mediterranean crossroads, Italy’s island of Sardinia has been marked by many civilizations, from Phoenician to Moorish. The remarkably preserved ruins of Cagliari’s Castello district reveal much of what these civilizations left behind. Marvel at a Roman amphitheater carved into the bedrock. Explore the subterranean sanctuary of the medieval Cathedral of St. Mary or, for local flavor, you might sample Sardinian wine at a family-owned vineyard.
Valencia. Spanish seaside jewel. Valencia is steeped in 2,000 years of history and culture. Its historic center is one of Spain’s largest, a medley of ancient buildings, historic plazas and cultural monuments. The Gothic Silk Exchange, a UNESCO site, bears witness to Valencia’s Renaissance trading power; purchase some finely woven fabric at the handicraft stalls of Round Square. Visit the stunning cathedral and Generalitat Palace in the Plaza de la Virgen. And sample the dish invented here, paella.

Toulon. Feast for the senses. Toulon enjoyed prestige as a royal port in Napoleon’s day. Today, this gateway to the splendors of Provence is graced with lovely squares, outdoor markets and Mediterranean sun. You might sample fine artisan cheeses or visit world-renowned wineries. Or stay closer to shore and visit charming fishing villages and marvel at spectacular vistas at Cap Canaille. The Holy see. Vatican City, the sovereign enclave in the heart of Rome, is home to some of the world’s most transcendent architectural masterpieces. St. Peter’s Square is a vision in travertine and marble, an astounding plaza where the Pope can give audience up to 80,000. Its circular colonnades were designed by Bernini to embrace visitors in “the maternal arms” of the church. As well, the massive St. Peter’s Basilica is held as the most celebrated building of the Renaissance.
The rugged isle of Sicily. Brimming with natural beauty, Sicily has been shaped by countless civilizations, from Greek to Byzantine to Roman. One of the most beautiful historic legacies is the village of Erice, perched atop its namesake mountain. You’ll get to the top by cable car, then marvel at sweeping views and enjoy delightful strolls along cobbled lanes to its 1313 Mother Church and Norman castle. Perhaps toast your find with a glass of local Marsala wine.

Ancient city of Carthage. The ancient port of Carthage, near Tunis, was founded on the shores of today’s Tunisia 3,000 years ago. The Carthaginian Republic, long a bitter enemy of the Roman Empire, held sway in the Mediterranean for centuries until their ultimate defeat by Rome. But, both Carthaginian and Roman ruins still remains, with spectacular views of the Mediterranean and the massive manmade harbors built for its navy of 220 warships.

Corsica, Napoleon’s birthplace. There’s a pleasant fragrance in the Corsican air, thanks to the scented plants and herbs that grow wild on its rugged and beautiful hills. Our port, Ajaccio, is the island’s capital and the birthplace of Napoleon; the city honors him with statues, plaques and their National Museum. Take in these revered sights, then follow the stunning villa-lined coastal road to the Sanguinaires Islands for views of the lovely 16th-century Genoese Tower.
Medieval Malta. Layer upon layer of history can be peeled back on Malta, where a long succession of powers shaped the island’s cityscapes and culture. Since Malta was an ideal crossroads for trade between Africa and Europe, the island gained tremendous wealth, and a mighty naval force emerged. Take in the medieval ambiance of Valletta and Mdina, and let yourself be seduced by a stunning coast dotted with luzzu fishing boats, blue grottoes and sweeping bays.
Pisa’s Leaning Tower. It took almost 200 years to build the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The long period (1173–1372) had little to do with the tower’s tilt. Rather, funds were allocated accordingly as the wealth of Pisa rose and fell, and battles with neighboring Genoa, Lucca and Florence came and went. These long pauses helped the soil underneath the tower adjust to its weight slowly, which is why it still stands today.
Algiers, “City of White.” The whitewashed buildings of Algiers shimmer on the Mediterranean like an entrancing mirage. French accents are visible on every corner in the Algerian capital, from the colonial Grande Post to wide and gracious boulevards and the 198-acre Jardin d’Essai du Hamma. Perhaps most stunning, the neo-Byzantine Notre Dame d’Afrique Basilica enjoys a splendid perch overlooking the Mediterranean.

As you start planning your ocean cruise you may want to know more details, so below are answers to our most frequently asked questions. If you do not see the information that you need here, you can also visit the About Your Trip section of our website at vikingcruises.com, contact your travel agent or call Viking toll-free in the U.S. and Canada at 1-855-8-VIKING (1-855-884-5464).
Even after planning and booking a cruise with Viking, an emergency or illness may cause you to cancel or delay your trip. We certainly hope this does not happen, but if it should, please make sure you are protected. With this program — no matter what the unexpected circumstances are — you are covered.
With comprehensive coverage, the Viking Travel Protection Plan includes the following:
Do I Need Travel Protection? While travel protection is not required, we do recommend it. You may purchase it on your own, or Viking offers a cancel-for-any-reason option. See next page.
•
Viking’s Cancel-For-Any-Reason Program
•
24-Hour Global Emergency Assistance
Is There a Dress Code? During the day on board and ashore dress is casual and comfortable, including shorts, jeans, and sturdy shoes for walking tours. Swimsuits, brief shorts, cover-ups and exercise attire should be reserved for poolside and in the gym. For evenings, while there are no “formal nights,” the recommended onboard dress is Elegant Casual for most restaurants, performances or other special events. Suggested attire for ladies includes a dress, skirt or slacks with a sweater or blouse; for gentlemen, trousers and a collared shirt. A tie and jacket are optional, but not required. Dinner in The World Café remains comfortable and casual, with daytime dress deemed appropriate.

Can You Accommodate My Dietary Restrictions? In most cases we can. Every meal has vegetarian options and our chefs will make reasonable efforts to accommodate requests. Guests requiring special diets — low-salt, diabetic, gluten-free and low cholesterol — must alert us 90 days prior to departure and inform the Maître d’ when on board. Can I Upgrade the Complimentary Beverages? Yes. Viking offers its Silver Spirits beverage package that features upgrades to our complimentary wine with lunch and dinner as well as additional cocktails. Ask for details when making your reservation. How Do I Book Dining Reservations? Dining reservations are available starting 120 days prior to departure for each venue based on stateroom category and can be made online prior to departure or on board. For your top choice and priority reservations, consider staying in a Suite or Junior Suite. For more information see the detail pages of the stateroom section on page 12. How Do I Pre-Book Shore Excursions? Depending on your stateroom category, shore excursions may be reserved online beginning 90 days before your cruise sails. Is Viking Star Non-smoking? All Viking ship interiors, staterooms, and verandas are non-smoking. Each ship has an outdoor smoking area. What is the E-Check Program? Viking offers savings when you pay via e-check (an electronic debit to your checking account); a quick, convenient way to pay for your trip that is as easy as providing your credit card number. Ask for details when you book. Do I Need a Visa to Travel With Viking Oceans? Blanket visas through Viking Cruises cover only our shore excursions, not trips you may decide to do on your own. If you are traveling with us to Russia and plan to spend time on shore outside of a Viking-provided excursion, you will need a visa. A valid passport is required to make these arrangements. It is the passenger’s responsibility to determine passport and visa requirements for their cruise itinerary, as well as to ensure they are in possession of all required visas and travel documents prior to sailing. As a service to our U.S. and Canadian guests, visas can be arranged through an independent third-party service; visit our website to download a visa kit. For all other guests, please contact your country’s consulate.
