A euphoria EXPERIENCE IS PRICELESS A casual sit down with the legendary chef Thomas Keller of The French Laundry. Cocktails with Dominique Crenn, the only female three-starred Michelin chef in the U.S. Chats with water-bottle-toting Sean Brock in a dimly lit bar about his newfound sobriety. Curtis Duffy, sporting three stars from his former Chicago restaurant Grace, giving advice to a young high school cook. None of these serendipitous moments were part of a ticket package, nor were they scheduled photo ops. And not a single one was scripted. But each one, every invaluable interaction between celebrated guest chef and star-struck festival attendee, materialized in Greenville because 13 years ago, two local visionaries had a dream for their community. Grammy Award-winning musician Edwin McCain and restaurateur Carl Sobocinski founded euphoria with a desire to give back to their city and celebrate memorable dishes, notable wines, and the music that turns a dinner into a party.

S E P T . - , / / euphoriagreenville.com

“ THE EVENTS MAY

BE DELIBERATELY S M A L L A N D I N T I M A T E, B U T euphoria’s -Y E A R IMPACT HAS BEEN A N Y T H I N G B U T. ” Through the last 13 years of festivals, the founding duo’s gift to Greenville has extended far beyond each four-day festival. The 2018 euphoria weekend alone injected $3.8 million into the local economy, with attendees from 29 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Furthermore, euphoria’s charitable giving has funded projects for more than 40 local organizations that help children, support hunger or health needs, and promote education through music or performing arts. As the festival enters its 14th year, euphoria and Greenville were selected to host the Association of Food Journalists awards, bringing in dozens of top food journalists from around the country. The results of their visit could have a far-reaching impact on the city’s growing food tourism.

Sobocinski says that while the festival has grown year over year, the goal has been to maintain what makes euphoria unique: “We’ve kept it to a size where you can get up close and personal with guys like Thomas Keller and the other celebrity chefs that come, and hear the stories behind some of Tim McGraw and Zac Brown Band’s biggest hits, straight from the people who wrote them.” The events may be deliberately small and intimate, but euphoria’s 14-year impact has been anything but.
