Piedmont Natural Gas and the Metropolitan Arts Council are excited to present the twenty-third anniversary year of Greenville Open Studios with 157 outstanding area artists, 19 of which are new. This year’s event will be held on Saturday, November 9, from 10:00 AM until 6:00 PM and Sunday, November 10, from noon until 6:00 PM. We are very grateful for Piedmont Natural Gas’ support as the title sponsor for the fourth consecutive year. A big thank you to Hank McCullough PNG Market President and MAC Board member for seeing this sponsorship come to fruition. Greenville Open Studios 2024 is also presented by Greenville County; Pelham Architects, LLC; SEW-Eurodrive; the Don & Zelma Waggoner Foundation; Hughes Investments; the Peace Center; Sealevel Systems, Inc.; and South State Bank.
Nicole Wood of Greenville County Council; Bill Pelham of Pelham Architects LLC; Juergen, Christopher and Rainer Blickle of SEW-Eurodrive; Don Waggoner and Janette Wesley of the Don & Zelma Waggoner; Phil and Rivers Hughes of Hughes Investments; Megan Riegel of the Peace Center; and Mike Coggin and DeDe Hudak of South State Bank have been instrumental in ensuring the success of this year’s event. We look forward to continuing our relationships with these very generous corporate partners and community-minded business entities.
Since its inception in 2002, Greenville Open Studios has evolved into the premier weekend for the visual arts in our area as evidenced in the outstanding community response to the event. Since 2002, over 714,000 people have traveled throughout the region to the various studios and have purchased over $5.38 million in art. The event would not be possible without the financial support of the many individuals, corporations and foundations that have recognized the importance and the vitality of Greenville’s community of visual artists.
The arts have a huge impact on Greenville’s economy and add greatly to the beauty of the area in which we work and live. MAC is very appreciative for its outstanding relationship not only with Greenville’s excellent visual artists but also with performing artists, arts organizations and arts educators. These individuals and organizations are instrumental in ensuring the sustainability of Greenville’s arts community while continuing to provide a diverse array of cultural offerings.
We hope you will interact with these 157 artists in their studios. If you have any questions or comments, please call us at (864) 467-3132. We guarantee a great time and are certain that you will find many masterpieces throughout the weekend. The event belongs to you.

A native of Greer, Dwain Skinner was a graduate of the South Carolina Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities. He received his B.S. in graphic design from Winthrop University. An amazingly talented artist and sculptor, Dwain left the corporate world as an accomplished graphic designer and illustrator to pursue his art full time. He developed an impassioned interest in mixed media, and he would often journey to flea markets and rummage sales to collect small objects that would find their way into his unique collages.
As a full time artist, Dwain was constantly exploring and refining his personal style. He prepared well over 100 pieces for the opening of Woodbine Studio and Gallery in 2019. That same year, he also participated in Greenville Open Studios for the first time. His experience provided the impetus for Dwain to continue to move forward artistically. Dwain left us far too early in 2019. His artistry, warmth, humor and charming and kind demeanor are greatly missed.
In his honor, the following new participating artists have been recognized as Dwain Skinner Open Studios Fellows for 2024:

Oil Sketch on canvas by Yvonne Arrowood
Drawn from a photo of Betty, age 97, at her “Last Show” in 2023
“A beloved mother, grandmother, and respected artist, Betty’s journey through life was characterized by her unwavering artistic spirit and the profound impact she made on those fortunate enough to know her.” During her years in Greenville, she participated in the arts, sometimes as a Greenville Open Studios Artist, but always as an encourager to other artists. In the months before she left to paint with the angels, she eagerly anticipated visiting other artists during MAC First Fridays. Betty was still looking forward to her next painting two days before her passing. She rejoiced in the talent of others as much as she loved celebrating her world travels with her own art images. “Betty Jane Gorman will be dearly missed but never forgotten, as her magnificent spirit and optimism live on in the memories of those she touched with her artistry and love.”

SmartARTS is grateful for the consistent support of the Greenville area philanthropic and business communities. In 2022, TD Bank and the TD Charitable Foundation renewed their support for the TD Center for Arts Integration.
SmartARTS, housed at the TD Center for Arts Integration, is MAC’s successful education initiative that helps local artists make a living as artists through their work in Greenville County Schools offering standards-based teaching artist residencies. The mission of The TD Center for Arts Integration is to improve academic achievement through arts-rich experiences and dialogue, connecting students, teachers, and artists to deeper learning and self-awareness.
Teachers, students, and artists in Greenville County benefit from SmartARTS which aims to create an even playing field for students of low- to moderate-income by giving them equal opportunities to discover their talents, express their voices, and engage in cultural activities with professional artists while increasing their academic performance.
The Book and the Board Game
Featuring all the mice that have become an integral part of the downtown Greenville experience, thanks to author Linda Kelly and artist Zan Wells. The book and the game make perfect holiday gifts, and they are available at Mast General Store, OP Taylor’s and other fine retailers.
A portion of the sales from the Mice on Main game and book will be donated to MAC’s SmartARTS arts-integration program in the Greenville County Schools.
Sales of the book and the game have provided $133,963 for SmartARTS since 2009. This generous donation has allowed for SmartARTS to have a presence in 86 schools throughout Greenville County. We greatly appreciate the continued generosity of Linda and Zan.
We support our customers –one brushstroke at a time.
The government of Greenville County is committed to preserving the outstanding quality of life the businesses, citizens and visitors enjoy. We thank them for their support of MAC and for setting Greenville Open Studios 2024 up for great success!
