Feldspar, A Mineral

FELDSPAR

A mineral is a substance made up of itself. Minerals are usually in rocks. Feldspar is a mineral used in granite, which is an igneous rock. Sometimes, feldspar is confused with quartz, which is another mineral. Feldspar is a rock forming mineral, which means that it is common in rocks. Some minerals are used in things besides rocks. Feldspar, for example is used in ceramics.

Fluorite • Fluorite is famous for the fact that in comes in MANY different colors and because of it it got nicknamed as the most colorful mineral in the world! • Fluorite’s used for camera lenses, cooking utensils and more! • Fluorite’s made of calcium fluoride! • It’s hardness is ranked 4! • Fluorite has a white streak! • Fluorite has a glass like luster! • It’s system is Isometric!

• Fluorite’s Illinois state gem and the most important fluorite site is there in Illinois!

FLUORITE!!!!!!! • Some fluorite’s can glow when heated but it only happens once in each gem! • Fluorite comes from the latin word fluere which means to flow! • Fluorite used to be called Fluospar! • Fluorite’s hard but can be broken easily!

HEMATITE THE MINERAL

Hematite is a very common mineral in the United States. Its main ore is iron. Hematite is harder than pure iron. Gray Hematite can be found in mineral springs such as those in Yellowstone Park. The name hematite is derived from the Greek word for blood αἷμα haima because hematite can be red. Hematite can be used for jewelry.

magnitite

magnaitite

-Magnatite is the most magnetic mineral on earth. -Magnatite is one of the most common iron mineral. -Magnatite is very easy to identify. It is black and a little smooth. from booth sides. -Magnitite can sometimes can be found in quantities of beach sand. Sometimes in California. -Small grains of magnetite occur in almost all igneous and Metamorphic rocks.

magnatite Magnetite has been very important in understanding the conditions under which rocks form. Magnetite reacts with oxygen to produce hematite.

PYRITE A COMMON MINERAL FOUND IN ALL THREE ROCK TYPES: SEDIMENTARY, METAMORPHIC, AND IGNEOUS. Pyrite’s Formation

Pyrite is formed deep inside the Earth, in veins that have been under high pressure and heat.Pyrite is formed when one iron atom combines with two sulfur atoms. The sulfur gives pyrite it’s gold color, and the iron gives it it’s metallic luster.

Pyrite’s Uses Today,

Sometimes people have mistaken Pyrite for gold, giving it the nick-name “fools gold”.

Pyrite’s main uses are making sulfur dioxide for the paper industries and sulfuric acid for the chemical industries.

Pyrite’s Name Origin INTERESTING FACTS

Pyrite can be found in almost any environment. Pyrite contains a lot of sulfur and was once mined for it. Pyrite also contains a lot of iron but was never considered a significant source of it. Pyrite’s crystals have many different forms and varieties and can form in both

The ancient greeks named Pyrite pyrite after two of their words: Group ‘pyr’ which means fire, and Pyrite is in the Pyrite Group ‘ite’ which means of minerals. There are only five stone. ‘Pyrites other minerals in this Pyrite lithos’, two group. Most of them are was discovered other greek REALLY weird! The words, refer in 1808 by other minerals in the to the spark created when iron is struck against pyrite.
