OLD YEAR! UPON THE STAGE OF TIME YOU STAND TO BOW YOUR LAST ADIEU; A MOMENT, AND THE PROMPTER'S CHIME WILL RING THE CURTAIN DOWN ON YOU. YOUR MIEN IS SAD, YOUR STEP IS SLOW; YOU FALTER AS A SAGE IN PAIN; YET TURN, OLD YEAR, BEFORE YOU GO, AND FACE YOUR AUDIENCE AGAIN ... Robert W. Service
WHAT LIES AHEAD? Is it the population of the moon . .. the renaissance of modern art . . . or the devastating slash of a third world war? Is it the conquering of all space . . . the laughed-at, but effective inventions of modern man . .. or the premature ending of a runaway world? Does anyone know the answer? The suspense of trial and error ... the gleam of hope . . . the thrill of success . .. These have made man pound the eternal entities with everything he owns.

The youth of today, with his triune power of emoting, em itting, and emulating, is constantly clutching at that invisible, faraway something which may soon become a seeable, intimate reality. This species of youth was once an embryo full of explosive potential, and he will some day be an old die-hard, never fading, always fulfilling . And so we of Chaminade High School set the spotlight on this ever increasing reality of conquest, this spirit of trying and learning, this desire to discover WHAT LIES AHEAD.

Mike Trainor awards the FTA scholarship to Robert Fontana.
The school year 1961-1962 was perhaps the greatest year that the FTA has ever had. Under the leadership of Bro. Cosgrove as moderator and Mike Trainor as president the FTA came to the forefront as the most active and varied organization at Chaminade. Their projects included tutoring, classroom supervision, and such novel projects as sponsoring the Talent Search, movies, sock hops, and the awarding of a scholarship to the outstanding freshman.

Julienne, not to be outdone by Chaminade's "coeducational" talent show , invited boys from the senior class to participate in their play. Chaminade's best offered their time and talent, and in spite of this the play was still a success . Pete Will was given the job of sitting on the bench mainly because of his wise looks; while Pat Flanigan won the role of prosecutor because of his charm with the nuns . Jim Jones (because of his dignified manner) and Mike Feldman (because of his he-man appearance) were chosen as guardians of the public welfare, i.e., cops. Bill Wiggenhorn, acting as attorney for the defense, had to convince a jury, composed in pa rt of level-headed Chaminade seniors (are there any other kind?) that his client was innocent ...

It is traditional for the senior class of' Chaminade to present the school with a class gift. This year that tradition saw an excellent fulfillment. The graduates teamed up with Mr. and Mrs . Brodbeck to acquire a lasting memorial to a boy who should have been on the stage during the ceremonies of graduation to receive his diploma. But Almighty God in His inscrutable designs saw fit to call Michael Brodbeck to his reward during his Sophomore year.
And so, with the aid of Mike's parents, a beautifully sculptured statue of Saint Joseph and the Christ Child, hewn from Italian marble and imported from Italy, was presented to the school by the seniors. This statue now stands in the courtyard on the Chaminade High School campus as lasting tribute to a deserving person.

NOG, the graduate
In 1,000,0 12 B.C. he learned to neatly pile stone bowls in one corner of the cave. In 1,000,006 B. C. he mastered the art of moving small fish ahead of him into the shallows until they were landlocked. In 1,000,004 B. C. he fabricated his first lethal weapon, a stone-headed mallet. In 1,000,002 B. C. he learned how to use it. And in 1,000,000 he graduated. He was ready for life in an area that would find him largely piling bowls, knotting vines, chasing arthropods, fish or other small animals. Through learning? Indeed not! Each dawn would bring a new lesson. He was Nog, the graduate of 1,000,000 B. C. Education has advanced. And advanced. And advanced. With your graduation in the year 1962, you've learned just about 10,000 times what Nog had learned at the same point in his development. But like Nog, you're remarkably well prepared for the era in which you will live. The Miracle Era. And, like Nog ... your education is just beginning. Whether you're on your way to college, to service, or to work, perhaps your most important quality will be the capacity to continue learning. At the DUPPS Company of Germantown, the focus is on progress. The whole world is focused on you. Because in what you've learned and what you will learn lies the key to the progress of the next million years. We salute you, the 1962 graduate of Chaminade High School, as well as the staff and faculty of Cham ina de. Together, you shape Tomorrow.

Today the Class of ' 62 joins a distinguished group
How will you use
of graduates throughout the nation. Your most priceless graduation gift is TIME.
You can look forward to approximately 100,000 working hours before you reach retirement age.
YOUR 100,000 HOURS? Actually, 100,000 hours is not a great deal of time.
You cannot afford to make many false starts. You should do some hard thinking right now, decide what you want to do in life, and then plan how to - achieve your goal. No matter what field you choose . . . business or medicine, electronics or finance, engineering or the social sciences . . . fantastic changes are being made. Trained minds are needed more than ever before to maintain this progress and make the W orId of Tomorrow a better place in which to live. How you invest your 100,000 working hours will be the answer to how successful you become in whatever field of endeavor you select for your life's work.

THANK YOU ... If the 1962 EAGLE is a success, it will be such because: BRO. JOHN JANSEN, SM, who, in his short term as Principal , got the yearbook off the ground through his interest and encouragement. MR. RICHARD KENARD and MR . MATT McCORMICK, who, as salesmen for the Taylor Yearbook Co., helped the staff in every way possible with their unselfish efforts . MR. FRED KOGER, who, as office man far away in Texas , still helped by his short notes of encouragement. DODD, MEAD & COMPANY, who, as publishers of the book The Collected Poems of Robert Service , allowed the staff to make partial use of this publishing. BRO. THOMAS BRENNAN, SM, who, as Treasurer of the school, patiently waited for the money to come in, only to see the staff take it back out. BRO. MICHAEL COOK, SM, who, as moderator of the Photography Club, did an excellent job on all photography except the senior portraits . MR . DON TUCKER, who, as professional photographer, did such a splendid job on the senior portraits. JAMES SERVAITES, who, as senior art student, did an outstanding job on all the art work in the book. THE WHOLE SEN IOR CLASS, who, as vibrant youth-327 strong-emulsified the city of Dayton with their over-the-top spirit in the ad drive and the subscription drive . BRO. LAWRENCE McGERVEY, SM, who, as Principal of Chaminade High School , viewed the progress of the book quietly from afar, but stepped in and helped with much needed encouragement during deadline troubles . TAYLOR PUBLISH ING COMPANY OF DALLAS, TEXAS, who, as publisher of thousands of school yearbooks, put up with our late deadlines and payments, and printed the entire book. BUT MOST ESPECIALLY, to Bro. Thompson and the rest of the staff who so generously gave of their time and talents hoping to make thi.s book a success . THE EDITOR

ยงenn.((])Irยง Gn. ve The' I'm too young to die .
Life is only what you make it.
What happened to the after prom party?
After four years the day has finally come.
Work hard to better yourself.
Go to college then go into the business world and succeed.
The most valuable thing in the world is the knowledge of self.
Smile, the weekend's coming!
If you do nothing else in life, be a Christian .
Our bookstore has everything.
Has anyone seen my hubcaps?
Long live the senior class of '62

The best way to succeed in life is to make use of the abilities you have to their fullest e xtent.
Learn all you can now while you have the chance.
Live it as it comes.
Life is what you make it so make it the most.
It was a very good four years.
Buya Ford!
I'll always have a place for Chaminade in my heart.
If at first you don't succeed, try again then quit.
Where there is a will there is a way .
With no more turkey raffles and car chances Chaminade will never be the same.
Go to college, get a job, get married .

We, on the threshold of careers dedicated to furthering the progress of our great nation, turn now toward futuristic strivings, but, at the same time, glance back over the failures and successes of four years of labor. We, about to take upon ourselves the duties of responsibility and the giving of good example, review our four years at Chaminade High School with confidence, for we who have striven for success shall not fail. We, the class of 1962, invite you to glance back with us over the wake of our strivings during very formative and informative years. To you, our friends and fellow Americans, we present the EAGLE 1962.

The EAGLE staff would like to dedicate the 1962 edition to Brother Thomas Brennan, SM. Bro. Tom is' imbedded in the memories of every student as a person, a business man, and a Religious Brother. As a person, Bro. Tom was always warm and full of fun. His sense of humor made him A-OK in the "laughs" division. He was deeply interested in each student as a student and not as a number. As a business man, Bro. Tom shouldered the difficult task of school treasurer with expert precision . With the school striving to tread water financially, he had his fingers on the pulse of all the money problems at Chaminade and instilled confidence by his abilities to handle money in this modern day and age. As a Religious, Bro. Tom celebrated his twenty-fifth anniversary . this year. Twenty-five years ago he dedicated his life to the Blessed Virgin and has never taken back a fraction of that contract. His religious nature has impressed upon the minds of all the students the picture of modern sanctity. Congratulations, Bro. Tom, on twenty-five years of tireless efforts spent in pursuing the highest ideal imaginable . And so we find it extremely appropriate to dedicate this book to a man with whom we have rubbed elbows all year, and whose abilities we have come to appreciate very much-BROTHER THOMAS BRENNAN, SM.
