Charninade At The Crossroads It has been said that perhaps Chaminade is at the crossroads of the traditional high school leadership role which it has held for some years in the Dayton area. Faced with increased competition in both academic and athletic endeavors from the new Catholic high schools in Dayton, the next ten years may well prove critical in the history of the school. It is our conviction that Chaminade can continue as a leader if many of the programs which are practiced merely for tradition's sake are abandoned and more functional, liberal policies are adopted. It is hoped that this book will provide some of the impetus towards that goal. Considered by many to be the first of its kind in the United States, this yearbook-magazine concept may well prove to be the accepted high school publication of the future. This would indeed be a tribute to Chaminade as a creative institution. But Chaminade cannot stop here. We look on this as one accomplishment in a new era-an era, in which, we hope the Ludlow Street School will maintain its leadership by continuing to improve itself in accordance with well-planned designs.

Pre-season optimism soared; post season quarterbacks were gratified. Do you remember . . . the good sound of the final gun that shot down the Falcons on the Eagle one-yard line. the crisp blocking of Tom Kavanaugh, Alex Rambauski, and captain Mike Clark spring Jody McGuire for a sixtyyard touchdown against Troy . . the touchdown plunges of Ed Zapatony and Walt Massie which toppled rival Fairmont. Jim Siewe caging the Cougars with an early touchdown, complemented by Jay Corpstein's return of a stray pass for another TD. Don Wabler, George BeIrne, Bob Dunlevy, and George Quinter sparking the Green to their first victory over Richmond. seeing Carroll dismantled by the five aerial thefts of Al Pung, Jack LaFlame, Mike Walsh, and Bob Geuhl. Jim Skelton's dazzling sprint which helped Don Overman, Mike Horn, and Al Dix dam the Beavers. Jim Fiala match his touchdowns against the classy sprint of All-State tackle Jim Duffy against Alter. your apprehensions as Gary Arthur attempted extra points held by Bob Fisher while John Werner blocked. Sodality The Sodality is trying, first of all, to 路develop the Life and Mind of Christ in each of its members, realizing the direct relationship between the individual's growth . in Christ and in the perfecting of the Mystical Body. Therefore the second objective of the Sodality is the Perfection of the Mystical Body of Christ. The sodalist sees his life as an extension of the life of Christ in time and attains his personal holiness through the social apostolate. Those who knew Tom Concannon describe him as a friendly person with a genuine sense of humor. A spirited Eagle, Tom was active in track, football and intramurals. When not participating in events, Tom could be counted among Chaminade's most loyal and enthusiastic backers. And probably this is how Tom will be remembered by his friends : a cheering, exuberant rooter whose love for the Green and White showed itself in spirit and gusto. May God grant him eternal rest!
A religious, bright, and happy boy met death from a speeding driver in the ' summer of 1962. Richard's own words, interpreting the poem "On Death" by W. S. Landor for an English assignment, described his own life and death. " . . . he has heard the voice of Death whisper into his ear. Death is so strong to him . . . but because he has lived a good life he knows that there is nothing to fear from it."
On March 3, 1965, the class of 1965 bid ci final farewell to beloved member John LaFlame. A real man of Chaminade, John strove to use his talents during his years as an Eagle. John was active in Sodality, intramurals and FTA. His athletic prowess was rewarded when he received his "big C" during his senior year. John .will be remembered as a quiet, sincere person who knew what was right and fought to attain it.

seasons abounding in impressive wins have made Chaminade in recent years an acknowledged powerhouse. The '64-'65 rendition justified this claim. Led by senior Terry Dunham, the Green and White ripped opponents from Louisville and Cincinnati to Troy and Middletown. The Eagle attack clicked with the deadly outside shooting of Jimmy Gottschall and the knifing drives of twin, Jerry. The offense was sustained by the leaping heroics of Sam Thorton who crashed the boards throughout the season. The muscle in the operation was Gary Authur, complemented by the fine work of Dan Ellis. The "sixth man," Bob Bruggeman, turned in many a key minute on the hardwood. Denny Treon and Paul Jergens closed out their varsity careers this season; their presence on the squad was certainly felt throughout their four years. Eagle cheerleaders exemplify the intense stimulation present at a Chaminade basketball game.
