SUMMER 2017

volunteers@cje.net v 847.929.3040 Project Connect CJE is recruiting volunteers to make friendly calls and visits to older adults living in the community. With your friendly call, you will …

• Provide a social connection • Develop friendships

• Make a life-changing contribution to the wellbeing of older adults • Add to your own routine with pleasant conversations

• Any person 18 years or older with a desire to volunteer is eligible • Calls and/or visits are expected on a regular basis

• Calls can be made from your home or a CJE location

• Volunteers can be paired with one or more older adult

• Volunteer calls can evolve into visits if the volunteer and the older adult are both willing to meet in-person • Training is provided

A call can be a beautiful gift. Why not try this unique way of volunteering?

Summer at CJE You can help CJE’s residents and clients also experience the joys of summer by taking them into the courtyards of their residences or serving them an ice cold treat, and sharing stories of their favorite vacations and summer pastimes. If you are a current CJE volunteer and would like to spend more time with our residents and clients, they would greatly appreciate this. If you are interested in volunteering in another capacity or know of someone who would like to get involved, contact us at 847.929.3040. Please consider helping our seniors experience summer as it is meant to be. We appreciate you and thank you.

CJE’s Research Volunteers Make a Difference Several of our volunteers devote their time to helping CJE’s Leoard Schanfield Research Institute, our in-house applied research division. They have been working on a variety of exciting projects and we are thankful for their time, energy and dedication.

Miriam Kohn I spend my hours at CJE SeniorLife entering data, including results of In-service program evaluations. I also spend a portion of my time proofreading documents and presentations, a skill I honed in my previous years of employment. I have recently retired after working over 35 years in employee education—30 of those as a Learning Consultant, first for Motorola and then IBM.

Colman Buchbinder I am retired having previously worked at UIC in administrative IT, Financial Aid, and for the Office of Administrative Research providing research reports and data on students to the university, to state and Federal agencies, and for requests from the public. Since retiring I have substitute taught and volunteered at middle schools. I am working on a variety of assignments including data entry from surveys, creating reports on admission statistics, and helping to clarify and organize data in a variety of research and data collection projects. So I have graduated from counting students to counting people who are just a little bit older.
