Featured Resident

Selena Pestine has been living at Weinberg Community for the last several months. You might catch her at the library or walking around the patio as that is her favorite pastime! She says she had a smooth transition into her new home due to our library. Selena is currently reading, “The Tattooist of Auschwitz” by Heather Morris. You can ask her how it is when she’s finished and check it out for yourself at our library. An interesting fact about Selena is that she played the Baritone Horn in high school that led to her passion and love for music. Weinberg Library

• We need a resident volunteer to help with our library. Please see Ira Gilbert or Arlene Minzer for more information. • If you are interested in books of Jewish content, you may find them in Cindy’s office located across from the health club. • We have an ongoing relationship with Deerfield Public Library and their program Books to Go! Their library staff comes to Weinberg each month to deliver and pick up items. Library staff will bring books (regular and large print) and audiobooks. You can call Ted at 847.945.3311 ext. 8833 to register or if you have any questions about Books to Go. Food Bits & Bites, by Tom Slepicka, Dining Services

Just because the summer season is coming to an end, doesn’t mean that we are going to stop creating awesome Dining experiences for you. We’re going to have to work real hard to outdo ourselves after a summer filled with BBQs a Cajun Dinner, lamb chops and a new favorite fish dish, Barramundi. The New Resident Lunch featured Chicken and Waffles. Could it be a new dinner menu item in the future? We’ll keep you posted. We’ve got a great autumn lineup for you that includes an upcoming Fish Night with Chef Will preparing a featured fish at an Action Station 4

in the Dining Room. We’re also planning a State Fair outdoor festival for residents, staff and local guests that will include a fun-filled afternoon of corn dogs, funnel cake, dunk tank and more! You won’t want to miss it. And we’re not finished! We have some great menus planned for Rosh Hashanah and we are looking forward to planning another themed dinner for our adventurous diners. Don’t forget to sign up for Chef ’s Table for the opportunity to dine in the kitchen with 3 resident friends and watch the activities during a busy dinner service. We are always accepting your recipes for Celebrity Chef special menu items and a chance to work side-by-side as a Chef ’s helper in the Main Kitchen. All recipes can be given to Tom Slepicka or Chef Jasmine. A special “Thanks” to all the residents who continue to participate in the Walker Valet Program. There is definitely more room to move around, thanks to your help. Ask your server to park your walker at dinner service and you will be entered in our new bi-weekly raffle. Congratulations to our inaugural week raffle winners—Avis, Lou, Roberta, Herb, Sandra and Pearl.
