Join us in giving a warm welcome to our new resident Susan who is joining us at the Friend Center! Susan has been a Weinberg client for two years before officially making her move. We are so happy to have her be a part of our Weinberg family! A little about Susan: She grew up in Glencoe, Illinois where she later became the Executive Director of Glencoe Chamber of Commerce. Susan was also a 1st grade school teacher! Her favorite memories include her honeymoon with her husband Steve in Hawaii and vacations with her 3 children in Door County.

What’s Happening at Weinberg Community February 2020 Perfect Attendance Celebration
On Thursday, February 27, we celebrated our staff members who have perfect attendance. We recognize how hard it is to manage a full time job and your own family. It is especially important we acknowledge those employees who make it their priority to come to work each and every day. Winners received a Weinberg gift of their choice and a $100 bonus. Then, we enjoyed snacks and worked together in a team building activity. Awesome job everyone and thanks for making every day count!

What’s Happening at Weinberg Community February 2020 February GEM Award Winner
Let’s congratulate Monisha as our February GEM award winner! Monisha has been a part of our Weinberg team for over a year as a Resident Assistant. She is a face you may not see a lot since she works overnight. But it’s employees like her who help keep our residents comfortable and safe in the middle of the night. When asked what her favorite part about working she said, “I have worked at Weinberg Community for almost one year now and my favorite part about working here is helping people. I love the residents and love helping them with whatever they need.” Thank you for your hard work and dedication to Weinberg Community! As always, please submit your GEM award winner recommendation at the Front Desk! We love to hear positive things about our staff and reward them for going above and beyond. Italian Night Dinner
Our featured dinner of the month was Italian-themed. The night started off with Tuscan lentil stew and beef sausage with marinara over a crostini. Entrees included celletani pasta with a choice of white or tomato sauce and meatballs or grilled chicken breasts with garlic bread. A delicious dessert of limoncello panna cota was provided as well. We are looking forward to our upcoming African themed dinner in celebration of Black history month. We hope to see you there!

What’s Happening at Weinberg Community February 2020 Musical Activities in February
On Thursday, February 20, residents attended a dress rehearsal at the Chicago Symphony and enjoyed the sounds of Beethoven. Afterwards, residents and staff ate lunch while sightseeing downtown Chicago on the Shalom bus. Everyone had a lovely time! On Sunday, February 23, we enjoyed a concert by renowned Cantor Stewart Figa from Temple Har Zion in River Forest followed by refreshments. Thank you to all the residents, families, and visitors who attended. We had a great time as he performed a variety of Yiddish and Jewish selections. What’s Happening at Weinberg Community February 2020 Instant Israel: Virtual Reality Travel to the Homeland
Known for its innovative programming and value-based approach to care and enrichment of older adults, CJE is proud to announce “Instant Israel,” a unique, multi-faceted program that will immerse older adults in engaging, life-like tours of historically significant places in Israel by utilizing Virtual Reality (VR) technology and 3D panoramic imagery. It was developed by CJE’s Community Engagement (CE) Department that plans to partner with groups such as Kahal, local synagogues and other Jewish student organizations to recruit volunteers to be trained as “Tour Guides.” All will have actually traveled to Israel, many on Birthright trips. 30 Gidwitz residents got to take the virtual reality tour on Sunday, February 9. It was a really special experience for those who attended. We look forward to having more of these events in the near future.
