WHAT’S HAPPENING AT WEINBERG COMMUNITY By Jennifer Weininger, Executive Director
Winter 2019
New Year Greetings!
I want to wish a happy and healthy 2019 to all of our clients, residents and families! Hope you have a year filled with good health, happiness and some fun! Our New Year’s Eve party was a huge success with entertainment, drinks and food. Residents had a wonderful evening ringing in 2019! Meet Weinberg’s First Resident Celebrity Chef—Ira Gilbert!
Ira Gilbert had a blast working with Chef Alan Miller making Covenant Club’s Creamed Spinach for the entire Weinberg Community to enjoy. In December, Ira explored our commercial kitchen and helped prepare and oversee the production of his favorite recipe. He later had the pleasure of sharing his creation with his family and friends at Gidwitz Place and Friend Center. January’s Celebrity Chef is Anita Coleman...we look forward to sampling her delicious creation! Would you like to be a Celebrity Chef? • Submit your favorite kosher recipe to the front desk. • Dining services will select the best recipe submission. • Winner creates their recipe in the Weinberg kitchen as part of our culinary team and it is featured on the daily menu for all to enjoy. • Winner enjoys community recognition along with a special thank you gift from the Dining Services Team. • For more information, contact Tom Slepicka at 847.236.7862. 1

Dining News
• Weinberg welcomes Will Chang, Sous-chef to the kitchen! He comes to us from California and his specialty is macarons. • Tuesday, January 15—Look forward to a live Thai inspired stir fry station at lunchtime! • Wednesday, January 30—Get a birds-eye view of our kitchen operations while enjoying a meal at the Chef ’s Table, featuring a meat-based menu. Winter Wonderland
Thanks to a generous grant from Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, our Friend Center and Adult Day Services families were able to celebrate the holidays at a Winter Wonderland Date Night Party! Families were able to deepen the sense of community and get into the festive spirit over drinks, appetizers, music and a cookie mix jar activity. Thankful
In the spirit of the new year, some of our clients, families, and staff at The Friend Center for Memory Care at Weinberg Community for Senior Living shared what they’re most thankful for this season on a video posted to the Weinberg Community Facebook page.

Renovations
• Fifth floor renovations are complete and feature new lighting, signage, paint, carpet and lounge. • Friend Center will be getting a makeover in the next few months! Thanks to a generous donor, our family lounge will be remodeled in a more comfortable space for residents and families to enjoy. • A new entry system at the Friend Center front door will be installed soon. At that time, we will share all the details on how to use it. Welcome, Viktoria!
We want to congratulate Julia Galitskaia, Personal Care Coordinator, on the birth of her beautiful baby girl. Viktoria was born on December 19 at 10:20 pm, weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces. Julia and her family are doing well and are thrilled about their new arrival!
