ALPINE KNIT Alpine knits conjure images of National Lampoon’s Family Christmas with garish American reindeer jumpers and o.t.t references to embarrassing Uncles, but boy-oh-boy would you be missing out if you held such a comedic view! Alpine Knits this season are all about layering, comfy, chunky over sized warmers in Nordic inspirations. Paying homage to the ski-season in cable knit and the snug boyfriend cardigan, cowl-neck dresses or über-thick wraps. Alpine Knits this season are playful and best of all warm. Pom-poms and leg-warmers by D&G, and Chanel do it oh so well with fur. Aim for palettes of Charcoal Grey, Moss Green and Pumpkin Orange to get this seasons Cosy trend wrapped! Knit Shopper, €44NEXT

LEATHER

CELINE A/W 2010-2011

So, Leather is the desirable sin this A/W, and before we all scream ‘wench’ at the sight of such savvy fashionista’s, let’s strip it down and work it out ... We’ve seen catwalks awash with corsetry, (YSL) Jumpsuits, (Hermes) and Balmain Mini-dresses, but how to transfer this to our own humble high street? (Without looking like a streetwalker?) If you are a frightened full-stop I would opt for the cropped trouser a’la Marrant, or of course the trusty leather legging with a strong knit, but the alternatives here are provided in colour. Think monochromatic, Earthy tones, Teal Greens and Grey and you are on to a win, either by accessory or flash of skirt. And, for the ‘black is best camp?’ ..Team with cashmere and the art of layering, and Leather could truly be your Autumn ace!

Glamourous, Alluring, and of Higher Class? All descriptive’s we might want to be aligned with! And what better to display your blue-blooded prowess than this decadent trend. If Velvet is good enough for Royalty, it Is good enough for me! This sumptuous sought after fabric is crafted beautifully through the collection’s of Ralph Lauren, Nanette Lapore and Alexander Wang as they show us quite how versatile and feminine this trend can be. A slim velvet trouser or a billowing gown, a coat to die for, or, just a hint at greatness with a wrap or sash, a little can really go a long way. In Intoxicating blood-red’s, deep water blues, and gemstone hues, the velvet trend adds a regal air to the most sophisticated of A/W wardrobes.

Tip 5

Go wild! If there’s something that screams animalistic lovliness, Fur is it!

‘Once You Kill a Cow, You Have To Make a Burger!’

In the words of Gaga / Beyonce, but how does this ring true with the coat of an Animal? Now without getting into a fool-hardy, Fur hysterical debate... Lets get to the real issue of how how to wear ‘Faux’ this Season. There has been a swathe of Fur on the catwalks this A/W and from Marc Jacob’s curly shrugs to Amanda Wakeley’s huge domineering gilets, a true fashion animal pulls off the look, and why? Because she feels like a warm and purring kitten, wrapped in luxury and not to be sniffed at. So, because it is not the real enchilada, it doesn’t mean dears that it needs to look it, and in true Tres Chic style lets dissect the ways to wear it well. There are many versions of this warm and toasty tit-bit on the high street and in every reputable boutique, but what is key here ladies is placement, like every well adorned home in the land, our bodies are truly no different. Stick to a sleek silhouette - 1920’s / 1930’s lines, figure hugging, high-waisted skirts, sleek fine cotton tee’s, long-sleeved fine knit cashmere & cigarette trousers. These are the staple ingredients for addition of texture in faux. Like a good painting the trick is to build depth and we do this from the start point of a great canvas (that’s you ladies!) If the basic form is fabulously simple, then a statement piece of fur works exquisitely. Be it trimmed boots, a coat that screams lux or a bag with pizazz the fur trend is one only a wall-flower should ignore. From Faux to sheepskin the look is tremendously in for 2010 & you’ll be as snug as a bug in a rug.. But with a touch more class!

Blake Lively is no stranger to style, as one of the most current Fashion icon’s, there is a reason why Anna Wintour continues to make her Vogue front cover. TRÈS CHIC PEOPLE VICTORIA’S

SECRETS.

I’m Victoria the ever-pregnant features editor for Trës Chic. Ever-pregnant as in this is my third baby in three years. It was never something I aspired to do or ever particularly imagined I would be doing if you had ever asked me my dreams and ambitions even as close to four years ago. However, these are the most poignant moments in life when you realize your mission or at least the path you have been directed on to, whether you feel like you were the chief co-ordinator or not it is the way you take life that becomes the important part. How to deal with two feisty male toddlers and a bump, soon to be a baby girl? Who knows? I don’t. But this is what life is for me right now, figuring it all out and being happy about it! Somehow squeezing in time for myself and my work keeps me sane - I had children for them to join in with my life not for them to become my life so I think it is important that one maintains a strong sense of self and to not just become a care machine! I love writing for the magazine because it gives me an outlet to be me and use my head for other things other than nappies, school uniforms and constantly organizing four other people! I get to go out and meet new people doing interesting things in and around this crazy place we call home. I am also loving hearing stories from people about how they wind up here in our mini melting pot and hope that you all enjoy to read about it. Whatever life throws at you can be tough. It is the way you take it that counts. My only way of putting it into words is “be ok with it”. No matter what it is you can deal with it, if you believe you can’t and you’re not ok with what life gives you, then you won’t cope. You just have to be happy with your choices, love them and you’ll come out stronger, wiser and happier. Plus a sense of achievement and having grown will be yours for keeps. Now I am sounding like an agony aunt but really I just want to share my newfound grounded-ness taught to me by my children. Positivity is the key, it is the only way, forever counting those blessings and being honest with yourself. Patience, love, peace and understanding. Be yourself.

TRÈS CHIC movies Step Up 3D

Some popcorn please! Its that time of the year when thick socks, sofas, squishy cushions and snugly blankets become acceptable. Yes you’ve guessed it, winter is upon us and although we’re more fortunate than most...weather wise that is, we do have those odd rainy days when curling up in a sea of comfort and watching a movie is the best thing you can do. I’ve picked out 5 films out on DVD this November for you’re viewing pleasure! I even slipped in one or two Christmas themed ones to get us into that holiday spirit! Enjoy! TITLE: How about you? GENRE: Drama, comedy Based on the short story “The Hardcore” by Irish author Marve Binchy, the film revolves around a Ellie a freespirited young woman who suddenly finds herself left in charge of a residential home when her older sister, who runs it leaves to attend a family crisis. Left to run the Irish rest home over the Christmas period most of the residents have left to enjoy Christmas with their families, leaving Ellie alone with four bitter old residents, better known as “The hardcore”. Played by a fantastic cast of veteran actors which include Vanessa Redgrave, Jass Ackland, Brenda Ficker and Imelda Stauntan. The terrible foursome have become so impossible to live with that many of the other inhabitants have left, due to their rude and objectionable behaviour. Leaving Woodlands Residential home in threat of closing down. It’s up to Ellie to bring them all together for the Holiday festivities. This film promises to be heartwarming, sentimental and fun, perfect for the Christmas

season!

TITLE: Step up 3D GENRE: Dance This movie sees Renee Zellweger’s return to horror films, where she plays an idealistic social worker, called Emily Jenkins who is concerned over the safety of little girl named Lillith played by actress Jodelle Ferland. Emily rescues Lillith, and welcomes her into her home, only to discover that Lillith isn’t as innocent as she appears to be. As secrets unravel Zellweger’s character finds herself in a world of danger. Now this isn’t the first creepy child horror movie we’ve seen and it probably wont be the last. Reviews towards it have been lukewarm, but I for one am curious to see how it all pans out...

haaKK

TITLE: A Christmas Carol GENRE: Animation

TITLE: When in Rome GENRE: Romantic Comedy A pretty young professional, Beth Harper played by Kirsten Bell, has a great life except for when it comes to relationships, she’s seriously unlucky in the love department. However things take a drastic turn when the she travels to Rome for her sisters wedding. Whilst visiting the reputed fountain of love she steals some coins and then finds herself hotly pursued by a group of spellbound men. If you like cheesy rom-coms this one will keep you entertained with its starry cast and batty plot!

TITLE: Sex and the city 2 GENRE: Comedy, chick flick Amongst the usual ups and downs of life which include Carrie questioning her marriage to Big when she realizes that all he wants to do is curl up on the sofa and watch old black and white movies while she wants to go out on the town. Samantha still single and fabulous but battling her own private war against menopause. Miranda trying to cope with a sexist new boss and Charlotte finding that her perfect family is hard to handle. The girls find themselves with the perfect excuse to take a break when Samantha is approached by an Arab sheik to devise a P.R. Campaign for his business enterprises, and is invited to an all expense paid holiday in Abu Dhabi! I know you loved the series, but probably not a big fan of the first film. Regardless of your opinion to film number 1 you know that if you didn’t catch this in the cinema your going to watch it on DVD, simple because it is SEX AND THE CITY and our love for the characters, cosmopolitans and crazy fashion will keep us coming back for more.

30

Its an animated adaptation of the famous Charles Dickens novel. Where an old mizer is visited by the 3 ghosts, (the ghost of Christmas past, the ghost of Christmas present, and the ghost of Christmas yet to come) he’s given the opportunity to change his ways as he’s taken through a journey of self redemption. We all grew up with this tale, and although its yet another re-make of the famous story the animation promises to be fantastic and its all about the holiday season and Christmas spirit. God bless us everyone!

You can rent these films and much more at 21st Century DVD Rental located at Local 13, Edificio Enline, Nueva Andalucia, Marbella,

TRÈS CHIC MUSIC ASHTON EASTER Music at CHRISTMAS!

Music at Christmas!

Christmas is my favourite time of the year. The music is always at its best, everyone seems much happier than normal and there are lights everywhere! I love Christmas music and personally I think the Christmas number one should always be a Christmas song. It’s the biggest chart of the year so I am going to give you a run down on the ins and outs of Music at Christmas Time. Last year, a Facebook campaign stopped X Factor winner Joe McElderry getting to No. 1. This year, there’s a whole list of artists who are hoping to do the same and stop this year’s X Factor winner getting to the top. Some of the names on the list this year include Big Brother winner Josie, TV Burp’s Harry Hill, Ellie Goulding and a song by the composer John Cage which is nothing more than 4 minutes of silence. Here are the Main Contenders for this years Christmas No.1 Ellie Goulding - Ellie Goulding’s cover of Elton John’s hit ‘Your Song’ is currently being used in John Lewis’ Christmas TV ads. Just hours after Ellie’s version of the top ten hit from 1970 aired during the X Factor it flew in to the

top ten and became a main contender for the xmas top spot. With the ad showing throughout the festive season could Ellie make it to the top for Christmas? Another Cover Version. It is a good version but to take the No.1 spot this Christmas I’m not too sure. Josie Gibsons – I am loving that Josie is a Contender and she is doing it for a good cause as all the profits from its sales will go to Children’s Hospice South West. Fellow Devonshire Lass and winner of Big Brother is the next surprising Contender for Christmas No.1. Josie says she wants to give Simon Cowell “a run for his money” and is recording a festive track called

31

32

‘Christmas Day in the Morning’. The song was put together by The Cornish Wurzels, a Wurzels tribute band, who will also feature on the charity track. The song features a choir of Cornish kids aswell. Being from Devon I would like to say I am rooting for her but I love Music so I am not sure I can do it. I do hope she raises lots of money for the Charity its a Christmas song so maybe… Micheal Jackson – The King of Pop for Christmas No.1 I can totally see that. It’s been announced that a brand new Michael Jackson album will be released on December 13th, just in time to make an impact on this year’s Christmas chart. Although we could see a classic Jacko track make its way back in to the chart over Christmas, the most likely contender is ‘Hold My Hand’, a duet recorded in 2007 by Michael Jackson and rapper Akon. The song is due for release worldwide on December 14th, just days before this year’s Christmas chart. Sony and the executors of Jackson’s estate say they have a hand-written note from the singer, indicating his desire that ‘Hold My Hand’ be the first single on his next project. Now this I can’t wait to hear! Mariah Carey – I think Mariah is the Queen of Christmas and each year, Mariah’s

According to reports Irish Twins JOHN and EDWARD have set their sights on the TOP SPOT.

1994 festive hit, ‘All I Want For Christmas Is You’ makes an appearance in the Christmas countdown but has yet to make No.1 which is wrong. This year Mariah is set to release an new Christmas album featuring six new songs and a new mix of ‘All I Want For Christmas’, the album will include a single called ‘Oh Santa!’. Could ‘Oh Santa’ or the new version of Mariah’s classic ‘All I Want for Christmas’ be the song that makes it to the top of this year’s Christmas chart? I hope so! Glee Cast – They have dominated the charts in the UK and US for the last year so for them to be in contention for the Christmas No.1 I think makes complete sense. The cast of Glee are releasing a Christmas album a week ahead of the show’s Christmas special. Which you know is going to be fabulous. The album will feature covers of 12 classic Christmas songs including ‘O Christmas Tree, ‘Jingle Bells’ and ‘O Holy Night’. The cast are also rumoured to be appearing live on an X Factor show nearer the time, they could be a strong contender for the festive top spot. Other songs on the album will include Last Christmas and Baby its cold outside. Guilty, but this album is on my Christmas list. Jedward – Oh No!!!! According to reports Irish Twins John and Edward have set their sights on the top spot.

33

They want to take on this year’s X Factor winner in the battle for Christmas No. 1. John said “Me and Edward are going to go for Christmas number one this year. We’re going to do it and sell thousands of copies and out-sell the X factor.” All I am going to say is noooooooooooo! John Cage - I don’t know if I can take this one seriously and if it makes No.1 the music industry is in serious turmoil. This is a song by composer John Cage called ‘4,33’ - well, we say song, it’s actually 4 minutes and 33 seconds of silence. You can join the facebook campaign now to get it to No.1 but I am asking nicely please don’t! Harry Hill – He is a comedian but a singer I’m not so sure. Known for TV Burp Harry Hill is planning his first attack on the music industry with his debut single ‘I Wanna Baby’. The single tells the story of 14 year-old girl, she’s got a mobile phone, she’s got Facebook... all she wants is a baby. The song is taken from Harry’s new album ‘Funny Times’ which will be released in time for Christmas and as the perfect stocking filler, it means we could see Harry in this year’s Christmas chart. The album also includes songs about Susan Boyle, celebrity gardener Alan Titchmarsh and a song called ‘Ken’ which is about and features the one and only Ken Barlow. Not a favourite for me. The X Factor Winner – It is the usually the trend that the X Factor winner takes the Xmas Crown and it has happened for 4 years running but their reign ran out Last year when a facebook campaign got Rage Against the Machine’s ‘Killing in the Name Of’ to the festive top spot after thousands of people downloaded the song, stopping X Factor winner Joe McElderry.

34

This year, Matt Cardel is favourite to win and the bookies are saying that the X Factor winner still has the best shot at No. 1 this Christmas. My opinion if Matt, Cher or One Direction win then YES they should take the No.1 Spot! Underdogs! I am calling them underdogs because I really don’t think they should make number one but the power of facebook is HUGE and due to last years No.1 anything is possible. Here are just a few of the wanted Christmas No.1’s and Facebook Campaigns that are going on. John Lennon Classic ‘Happy Xmas

(War Is Over)’ The Trashman - Surfin Bird Electric Six - The most popular Facebook group so far is in support of Electric Six’s 2003 hit ‘Gay Bar’. Rick Astley - Could we all get Rick-rolled this Christmas? A campaign to get ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ is already gathering followers. Metallica - There’s rumours that Jon Morter, the guy behind last year’s RATM campaign wants Metallica’s ‘Enter Sandman’ at No. 1. I wanted to do a little research myself and find out what you wanted to see on the top spot this year. I got some surprising answers but almost everyone didn’t want the X Factor winner to take it. A few people were backing Josie, others wanted Cheryl Cole or Justin Bieber to take the top spot with a Christmas Song, a couple people said Glee and one person said a completely unknown Band raising money for Charity to take it. What do you think? Personally I want a Christmas Song so I am hoping for something from Mariah’s new Christmas album or a good old Christmas Classic! Here are My Top 5 Christmas No.1’s So Far… Slade – Merry Xmas Everybody – No.1 in 1973 Michael Jackson – Earth Song – 1995 Shakin Stevens – Merry Christmas Everyone – 1985 Mariah Carey & Boyz II Men One Sweet Day - 1995 Mariah Carey – All I want for Christmas – Now this song has never reached No.1 but made No.2 in the UK and US which I think is a travesty so I have put it in my Top 5 because in my eyes it is one of the BEST Christmas songs ever made!

HARRY HILL – He is a comedian but a singer I’m not so sure. Known for TV Burp Harry Hill is planning his first attack on the music industry with HIS DEBUT SINGLE ‘I Wanna Baby

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays – N-Sync My Grown Up Christmas List – Michael Buble (also any Christmas song by Michael Buble, He is on my Christmas List!) I want to know your Favourite Christmas Songs. Facebook us TresChicMagazine. or check out the website www.treschicmagazine.com

Merry Christmas, I hope all your Christmas Wishes come true. xx

TRÈS CHIC BOOKS THE HELP

grew up with , but who mysteriously disappeared, is one of the things that leads her to question their side of the story.

Book review by Natalia Lutz Hello everyone! For this issue of Tres Chic I have chosen for your exclusive reading pleasure a book by Kathryn Stockett it is her debut novel called The Help. Now I didn’t buy this one because it was recommended to me, it was the blurb that peaked my interest, and am I glad that it did! Right away the characters inside it came to life they were strong, moving, funny and the underlying tone of the story authentic and true. So whats its about your asking yourself? Well its set in 1962 Jackson, Mississippi, and tells the story of 3 strong women who come together to tell the truth about their town, in concrete whats it like to be an African-American maid in Jackson. Its a time when inequality was the norm, maids we’re expected to use a different toilet from their employers lest they pass on germs and they earned roughly 1 dollar and hour, not even minimum wage.

Doing a little more research on the book and author once I had put it down, I read that it quickly rose in the best seller lists, but it was also met with controversy. Mainly because its a white woman telling the story of black women, yet despite some negativity its also been met with undeniable praise and has even been compared to the classic To Kill a Mocking Bird.

Natalia our very own BOOK WORM, talks to us about her FAVOURITE BOOK of the moment

Our main characters are: Aibileen It’s her voice that begins the story, older, wiser and little more run down than the other two protagonists. She’s raised sixteen white babies, seventeen including Mae Mobley her current charge, and is wonderfully maternal. But ever since the death of her own son “a bitter seed” was sown and feelings and thoughts which she used to push down with ease, are growing and beginning to become harder to suppress. Minny She is the second voice we hear, loud and sassy she’s described as the best cook in Mississippi but her tongue usually gets her fired. Distrustful of white people she finds herself at ends with her newest employer a Miss Celia who coming from a different background from the other white ladies in Jackson treats Minny more like a friend and confidant than maid. But just like Aibileen the unfairness of growing up black in the South pushes Minny to tell her story. Miss Skeeter She is the third voice in this novel yet is first introduced to us by Aibileen, we know straight away that shes different from the other white ladies. Shes described to us “as the kinds that speaks to the help”. Tall and skinny with frizzy hair and a certain awkwardness about her she’s never fit in anywhere and finds herself disagreeing with how her society views black people. Her strong bond with the maid she

I so enjoyed this novel that I read it a second time round, right after I finished reading it the first time! The power of this book makes you feel like you know

the characters and you feel sad when you have to say goodbye to them. Its funny, its touching, and while it shows the worst side of society it also shows the best of humanity. Its a book set in a time of upheaval and change and one that draws you in so completely that you can almost taste the fried chicken and sweet potatoes!

Cool, laid back with cheeky grins and Abercrombie good looks I am definitely looking forward to interviewing the Wallem Brothers, so eager in fact that I’m at least 10minutes early. Cj who’s acting as photographer today is busy setting up the lights in her studio, when the Wallem brothers a.k.a Chris and Danyo arrive. Fortunately I’ve already met Chris on several occasions so theirs no need to break the ice, and I happily note that his younger brother Danyo is just as laid back and easy going. We begin with the photoshoot, and while Cj and the brothers brainstorm for ideas regarding their posses I quietly sit back and re-read some of the info on the Wallem Brothers. Their originally from Scandinavia but are locals having grown up here and gone to an International school, hence the perfect English accents! Chris is the older brother, 25 years old and has been tearing up the dance floors in Marbella since he was 17. Garage music from back in the 90’s is what inspired him to start Dj-ing and is still very influential in his style today. He’s worked in heaps of venues like Dreamers, Nikki Beach, Pangea Tibu all in Marbella, La Marina, and Tantra in Ibiza, Cargo in London, Club Indochine in Zurich and thats not even all them! Danyo is younger by four years has worked with his brother on many occasions but prefers producing to Djing. He’s currently working for one of the biggest labels in Denmark, Zoo Productions and hopes to get signed to them one day and has worked for an up and coming artist in New York. Wardrobe change! While I’ve been reviewing my questions and information on the brothers they’ve relaxed somewhat in front of the camera and their individual personalities are starting to come through. The atmosphere is light hearted and fun, and as the ball gets rolling I even pitch in with some helpful comments. They have a unique style to the them, somewhat 80’s retro which gives them a cool edge, I cant wait to see the end result! The photoshoot is wrapping up with Cj taking the last of the headshots and we’re onto the interview part of the evening!

Cool, laid back with cheeky grins and Abercrombie GOOD LOOKS I am definitely looking forward to interviewing the WALLEM BROTHERS, so eager in fact that I’m at least 10minutes early.

How would you describe your music style? Danyo: Experimental! Chris: Yeah cause we got different genres, we do house music we also do dubstep which is a new kind of music from the U.K. And we do Rnb as well...everything. Whats your favourite? Danyo: I think slower songs... Chris: House, cause that’s what I get to play when people are dancing. Is this something you both have always wanted to do, work in the music industry? Chris: Not really, I mean we’ve always been into music, but then, well I started Dj-ing when I was about 14 at home, I bought some turn tables and stuff and then it just kind of evolved from there with someone asking me to play in a bar and that when I realized, this is what I want to do, it was the same for him. Danyo: Yup I was just sitting in my room messing around with different kinds of music and I realized it was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life you know? I don’t want to sit in an office everyday , I want to travel the world and make music for the stars. And you both never thought of working in a different area of music? Danyo: Actually when I was a bit smaller I used to do rap songs, but now that I look back I’m a bit embarrassed about it. Chris: Yeah but they we’re pretty good, he was really young and they we’re good so... Danyo: and now I like writing slower songs, I’ve already started writing, I’ve written a lot of songs Chris: We need to get a vocalist to sing them Danyo: yea Iv worked recently with a girl called Tatiana and shes auditioned for the x factor, shes got a really good voice. You wouldn’t think of singing the songs yourself? Danyo: well I sing them in the beginning so the artist can hear what I want it to sound like, but I’m not confident enough with my voice to sing them myself. I want someone who’s a really good singer to sing my songs. Who do would you love to work with? Chris: Ellie Golding. Danyo: yea Ellie Goulding we love her voice it would suit our songs. Tinie Tempah would be fun to work with. Axwell. Chris: yea people like Axwell, Kanye West, Daft Punk, Skrillex, Deadmau5 are like our inspiration. Where have you worked together? Chris: Well we had a Wallem Brother party in Zürich Danyo: yea we had a gig there in June Chris: And just last week I was playing in London. How did they hear about you in Zürich? Danyo:Well a guy heard one of my songs on youtube and he contacted me Chris: Thats kinda how it works, thats how we get most of our jobs. Danyo: Yea I’ve been making a lot of re-mixes lately for people Chris: Like in Asia Danyo: USA, Denmark, youtube is great its helping me so much Chris: hes got over half a million views on his youtube channel Check him out at http://www.youtube.com/user/DanyoWallem Chris: I’m getting more into the production side of things too, we just built a whole new studio for our house, and I’m really getting into it now. Now that its winter I’ve got some time to dedicate to producing.

Whats the best club you’ve worked in? Chris: I think Dreamers main room is great, the sound system is the best in Andalusia and the way the whole thing is set up is really good for a Dj Whats the craziest party you guys have had, I mean your both good looking guys you must have heaps of girls coming up to you! They both immediately get a little shy Chris: Hahaha er no you cant put that in there! Danyo: ye we have girlfriends! Chris: ... well we do have girls coming up to us to give us their numbers but thats around it.. Danyo: I’m more behind the scenes I don’t really like the attention, I just like making music that all. So that means Chris likes the attention! Chris- Laughing no well I don’t mind it.... Joking aside you’re both very down to earth for working in the nightlife, how do you do it? Danyo: Well we try to stay healthy Chris: We don’t party that much I don’t drink much, just a couple of beers sometimes. Danyo: I hardly ever drink Chris: and we go to the gym a lot. Yes, these are definitely boys that we want to introduce to our mothers! Would you describe Dj’s as musicians? Chris: Nowadays they are, all the big Dj’s produce now. Maxwell, David

it is, but it will be probably be Copenhagen, London, Miami or something like that. Where the main music stuff is going on. To end off the interview I throw the boys a couple of questions about women BUT remember ladies they do have girlfriends! Do you expect your girlfriends to be really into music? Chris: No not really. Danyo: Well my girlfriend is interested in what I do, every time I make something she wants to hear it, she wants to be the first one to hear it. Ok and so physically what attracts you to women? Chris and Danyo: Bums!!! hahahahahahaha Chris: Actually I like Spanish looking girls, I’m not into Scandinavian looking girls. Danyo: Me too, I think opposites attract. Both our girlfriends have dark hair while we’re both blond.

“ I’m getting more into the production side of things too,

we just built a whole NEW STUDIO for our house, and I’m really getting into it now. Now that its winter I’ve got some time to DEDICATE TO PRODUCING..” Guetta their famous because of their productions some aren’t even that good Dj’s anymore. So that’s the future now, you need to be a good producer as well. Danyo: but right now I’m more of a producer and Chris is the Dj Chris: But hopefully in the future will be both be doing both. What make you two stand out from other Dj’s and producers in the field? Chris: Well I think we’re quite versatile, we have different styles of music Danyo: We’re not he same as everyone else we like everything Chris: Except heavy metal, I don’t like heavy metal Danyo: Well it depends there is some good heavy metal stuff out there, but they need a good melody. Who’s the best Dj that you’ve worked with? Chris: Eric Morillo, he’s been in the booth with me and he’s really down to earth. What do you have planned for the future? Chris: We’re waiting for one of our tracks to be released on a big label and hopefully move to which ever country it may be, we don’t mind what country

Our interview ends on that note, and I’m happy to report that I had a fabulous time talking with this pair of charming brothers. A couple of weeks following this interview the Wallem brothers hard work paid off, they’ve just signed a record deal with on of the biggest labels in Denmark, Zoo Productions, their first single will be released this September and if that weren’t enough they’ve also formed a collaboration with vocalist Max C, which if you didn’t know is Axwells singer in “I found you”, due to be released early 2011. Thank you boys we had a great time hearing from you and we wish you all the best! Don’t forget to check out Danyo’s music on youtube or check out their facebook page called Wallem Bros.

TRÈS CHIC MUSIC ASHTON EASTER fills us in on the HOT LIST, on music now. MUSICAL MADNESS IN 2010 I think overall 2010 has been musically a successful year and one I have really enjoyed. Pop music has come back into fashion this year and is alive and well, just ask Justin Bieber, B.o.B. or Ke$ha. All scored at least two titles in Nielsen SoundScan’s tally of top selling albums and songs for the first half of 2010, according to Billboard. Lady Antebellum’s “Need You Now” is the top selling album of the year through the week ending July 4. (If you haven’t heard their song I Need you Now please download it, it’s a fantastic song!) The country album has sold almost a million more copies than its closest competitor, Justin Bieber’s “My World 2.0.” The power of Bieber is strong: the teen star is the only artist to place two albums in the top10 as his “My World” lands at No. 9. If there were any doubt that Enimem was back, consider that his “Recovery” lands at No. 5, after only two weeks of its release and after being named artist of the decade at the end of last year! Rock music is completely left out of the top 10 selling albums, although Train’s “Hey Soul Sister,” lands as one of the best-selling singles so far. B.o.B. is looking like a shoo-in for a best new artist Grammy nod with two tunes in the top 10. Below are lists of some of the the best selling albums and singles so far...? TOP ALBUMS Lady Antebellum, “Need You Now,” 2.35 million Justin Bieber, “My World 2.0,” 1.39 million Sade, “Soldier of Love,”1.21 million Lady GaGa, “The Fame,” 1.15 million Eminem, “Recovery,” 1.09 million Usher, “Raymond V. The most popular songs of 2010 are sang by well known artists like Katy Perry, Lady Gaga, Maroon 5, Ke$ha, and the Perry band. Many of these artists have soared to the top of the music industry through one or two popular songs. All it takes is one hit, to make it big in the music industry. Best Songs of 2010: According to the Billboard music charts, the following list of the most popular music of 2010 includes pop, heatseekers, dance/club, R&B, rap, rock, alternative, country, jazz, Latin, regional Mexican, Latin pop, tropical, Christian and gospel music. Overall, these songs have reached the forefront of music, this year of 2010. The list of most popular songs of 2010 include Just The Way You Are by Bruno Mars, Teenage Dream by Katy Perry, Love The Way You Lie by Eminem Featuring Rihanna, We No Speak Americano by Yolanda Be Cool & Dcup, Take It Off by Ke$ha, Hey, Soul Sister by Train, Misery by Maroon 5, Deuces by Chris Brown, Radioactive by Kings Of Leon, Mine by Taylor Swift, Nina De Mi Corazon by La Arrolladora Banda el Limon, I Like It by Enrique Igle-

Most Popular Artists of 2010: Katy Perry’s songs have definitely risen to the top of the charts. The newest hit called Teenage Dream is (without doubt) a favourite of many young teens and adults. The song is catchy from the start and it clearly describes the feelings that all young couples feel, as they go through their own “teenage romance.” Lady Gaga’s songs are in a category of their own, just as she is. There is no doubt that individuals are drawn to Lady Gaga’s strange ways and appearance. Many feel the “meat dress” was taking it a bit too far, while others are excited to see what lies ahead. Overall, her music has remained at the top of the charts, as the most popular music of 2010. Some of Lady Gaga’s most popular songs include Bad Romance, Poker Face, Just Dance and Love Game. The song Misery by Maroon 5 is a 2010 favourite of many fans of pop/soul music. It has an intense vibe to it that immediately grabs peo-

ple’s attention. Now Country music is huge in the USA and one of the biggest and most popular music genres in the world. Country artists you should check out Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood and Lady Antebellum. Something I didn’t know until doing research for Tres Chic was that Katy Perry has crossed over into Country Music? Katy`s song “If I Die Young” has caught the attention of country fans all over. It’s been said that it’s a song that brings peace to the hearts’ of many young men and women. This song has become one of the most popular country songs of 2010 which only makes Miss Perry even more successful this year! It’s been a great year for Katy Perry’s love life and music career. According to AOL: With a continued flurry of new releases, we’re still highlighting the best songs of 2010 to date. I have now turned to AOL for their verdict. Many of the new singles feature guest artists, an “et-al” phenomenon that includes Ludacris, Bruno Mars, Beyonce, Hayley Williams, Rihanna, Snoop Dog and others leading the pack. Here are AOL Radio’s Top Pop Songs of 2010 so far -- pulled from listener ratings on the Fresh 40 station. You never know there might be a smash hit ready to tantalize our ears before the end of the year that could dominate this but for now... 10. Rihanna – Rude Boy 9. Telephone – Lady Gaga 8. OMG – Usher 7. B.o.B – Aeroplanes 6. Your Love is My Drug – Kesha 5. Need You Now – Lady Antebellum 4. Taio Cruz – Break My Heart 3. Nothin on You – B.o.B 2. Love the Way you Lie – Eminem ft Rihanna 1. California Gurls – Katy Perry

All it takes is one hit, to make it big in the music Industry.

Now to the UK. 2010 has so far been a great year for music. X Factor contestants have made appearances in the chart along with boy bands and girl bands but it has been mainly dominated by Cheryl Cole, Rihanna, Bruno Mars and Rap! However there have been many up and coming new artists hitting the charts with excellent singles as well which is refreshing. I found a website with the best selling singles in the UK so far check out the top 7... do you agree? 7. Lady Gaga Ft Beyonce- Telephone: 6. Tinie Tempah Ft Lambrinth- Pass Out: 5. Alicia Keys- Empire State Of Mind Part II 4. Rihanna- Rude Boy 3. Iyaz- Replay 2. Owl City- Fireflies 1. Helping Haiti- Everybody Hurts - This single was initiated by Simon Cowell after the Haiti earthquake. Gordon Brown agreed to not charge VAT and REM also agreed not to have any royalties paid to them. Artists who appeared in this single include: Leona Lewis, James Blunt, Mika, Cheryl Cole, Alexandra Burke, Michael Buble, Mariah Carey, JLS, Susan Boyle, and Robbie Williams. There are also many more who contributed. Now of course the X Factor contestants have just released their charity single a cover of David Bowies ‘Heroes’ which is honour of Help for Heroes so maybe that will be a contender to be the best selling single of the year 2010. American Music Awards

69

It’s coming to the end of the year and so it was time for one of the biggest Music Award shows after the Grammys that is The American Music Awards! The AMA`s was held in Los Angels on the 21st of November and was a night filled with stunning and mind blowing performances of all the best artists and songs of 2010. My Favourite performances included The Black Eyed Peas, Miley Cyrus and Katy Perry and I can’t forget Rihanna who opened the show with a medley of her hits. It’s like the highlight award show for the year. Now the 2010 American Music Awards or AMAs are all about the fans. The nominees are chosen based on album sales, radio play and other popularity factors and the winners are selected from fan voting via text message and online at the AMA website. Winning an AMA is a real honour and I think picks the winners in music of the year. Now as mentioned before this year the world has had what is called Bieber fever and it seems that the AMA’s have caught it as well. Justin Bieber has triumphed at another award ceremony this year walking away with four AMA prizes. The 16-year-old picked up the coveted ‘Artist of the Year’ award, as well as ‘Favourite Breakthrough Artist’, ‘Favourite Pop/Rock Male Artist’ and ‘Favourite Pop/Rock Album’ for My World 2.0. In one of his winning speeches he said “Without my fans, this would not be possible, I come from the smallest town in the world of, like, 30,000 people. I never thought this was possible!” What a perfect ending to a great year for the Teen Sensation Justin Bieber. Bieber’s mentor Usher also scooped two awards for ‘Favourite Soul/R&B Male Artist’ and ‘Favourite Soul/R&B Album’ with Raymond v. Raymond, while Eminem was the only other artist to secure more than one win, going home with ‘Favourite Rap/Hip-Hop Male Artist’ and ‘Favourite Rap/HipHop Album’ for Recovery. Elsewhere, Lady GaGa, Taylor Swift and Rihanna won ‘Favourite Female Artist’ in each of their respective genres, Black Eyed Peas were crowned ‘Favourite Pop/Rock Band’, and Carrie Underwood was honoured with the ‘Favourite Country Album’ prize for Play On. There were also wins for Shakira, the cast of Glee, Michael Bublé and rock band Muse. I think we can safely say the AMA winners are our most successful artists of 2010. Congratulations to everyone and we look forward to more fabulous music from you all next year!

The Good, the Bad and the Rehab in the world of Showbiz of 2010! Good TAKE THAT ARE BACK FOR

70

GOOD? One of the biggest Musical events that happened this year is of course Take That getting back together. It’s been over 16 years since the boys performed together as a group and with Robbie back the boys are up to old tricks which are of course making hits and making lots of girls scream! The boys made their first public performance on the X Factor shortly followed by their performance of Never Forget on Children in need. Their

Newest Single ‘The Flood’ proved extremely popular making No.2 in the charts and when they announced their tour in 2011. The 20-date ‘Progress Live Tour’ will include six European dates - taking in dates in Ireland, Denmark, Amsterdam and Germany. The tour follows 2009’s ‘Take That Present: The Circus Live’, which became the fastest selling in UK history when 600,000 tickets sold out in under five hours. The tour followed in its footsteps and sold out in hours making the boys add more tour dates. I actually spent 4 hours helping my cousin get tickets only having the site crash on me nearly every time that I gave up. It has been reported that their UK tour has had twice as much demand for tickets as Michael Jackson’s ‘This Is It’ shows. Also rumours are starting about who will be supporting them on tour and the names at the top of the rumour mill are UK’s Sweetheart Cheryl Cole and UK Rapper Tinie Tempah. With a sold out concert and thousands of happy ladies across the UK Take That’s success continues with their Brand NEW album ‘Progress’. It has rocketed to the top of the UK album chart which becomes the fastest-selling album of the century after shifting almost 520,000 copies in its first week. The boyband’s first record with original member Robbie Williams for 15 years is the first album to sell over half a million copies since Oasis mega-hit Be Here Now in 1997. Martin Talbot of the Official Charts Company commented: “Since their reunion as a four-piece four years ago, Take That have firmly established themselves as the UK’s favourite band.”Following the return of Robbie Williams to their ranks, that record has been further cemented - and they are now well on course to rule Christmas 2010, just as they dominated Christmas 2006 and 2008.” Congratulations to the boys and I hope they are Back for Good!

WIERD, WACKY, extremely talented and constantly PUSHING every BOUNDRY out there.

LADY GAGA Where Do I start. Born Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta on born March 28, 1986 Lady Gaga has since changed her name, her hair colour and the world of music. Wierd, wacky, extremely talented and constantly pushing every boundry out there. Lady Gaga continues her world domination in 2010 with almost every song making No.1 and breaking nearly all the records in the music industry. 2010 has been Gaga’d. I cannot deny Lady Gaga is fabulous in a bizarre way but I have yet to join the Lady Gaga Fan club. Her songs are ground breaking and incredibly catchy but her dress sense is not working for me. Underneath the crazy ward-

robe I think she is awesome but I cannot get past why she needs to dress like she does all the time but it’s been the year of Gaga and the list of her never ending achievements. First off, the singer is now the only digital-era artist to top the 5 million sales mark with her first two hits, according to Yahoo Music. Gaga broke the record when her single “Poker Face” reached 5 million in sales after her debut single, “Just Dance,” accomplished that feat last year. The only other act with two songs at or above 5 million is the Black Eyed Peas, according to Yahoo. And if selling millions of records weren’t enough, Gaga also reached the 1 billion mark in video views. According to Mashable, with numbers and analytics compiled by Visible Measures, Gaga is the first artist to have her videos reach 1 billion views. Three of her music videos hold spots in the 100 Million Club, including “Poker Face” (374,606,128), “Just Dance” (272,941,674) and “Bad Romance” (360,020,327). Most of the streams are through Vevo and YouTube. Following close behind Gaga’s record are “Twilight” (980 million) and Soulja Boy Tell’em (860 million). It’s recently been reported that Lady Gaga’s album ‘The Fame’ has become the best-selling digital album of all time recorded by a solo artist. To date, the princess of pop’s album has sold 605,000 copies. Lady Gaga also dominated every award ceremony this year including the MTV music and Video awards, BRIT and Grammys plus more. The singer is dominating the music world one record at a time. Lady Gaga was one of the most photographed; searched and talked about celebrities of

71

this year to top 2010 off for Lady Gaga she was also a newcomer to the Forbes Celebrity most powerful list. Bringing in an estimated $31 million with a 106-date tour that grossed $95 million Lady Gaga is ranked No.4. Now We’ve pretty much lost count as to how many world records she’s already shattered which continues to grow every time she releases a single, album, video or even a photo so I’m pretty sure that she’ll be breaking a lot more of them as her career continues and seeming Lady Gaga is pretty much just in the early stages of her career. I doubt we’ve seen the best of her yet. JUSTIN BIEBER: What a year for a 16 year old Boy. Justin Drew Bieber born 1st March in 1994 was first spotted on YouTube in 2008 singing cover versions in his bedroom and within a year became signed to usher’s label Raymond Braun Media Group and then to a recording contract with Island Records offered by L.A. Reid. His debut single, One Time”, was released worldwide during 2009, and charted within the top 30 in over ten countries. It was followed by his debut release, My World, on November 17, 2009, which was certified platinum in the United States, making him the first artist to have seven songs from a debut album chart on the Billboard Hot 100. His first full studio release, My World 2.0, was released on March 23, 2010 and has since received similar success; it debuted at number one and within the top ten of several countries and was certified platinum in the United States. It was preceded by the worldwide top-ten single, in January 2010. the lead single became his biggest hit thus far, charting at number five in the U.S. and reaching the top ten in seven other countries. Two digital singles, Never Let You Go”, and U Smile” were top thirty hits on the U.S. Hot 100, and top twenty hits in Canada. It debuted at number one on the U.S. Billboard 200, making Bieber the youngest solo male act to top the chart since Stevie Wonder in 1963. My World 2.0 also debuted at number one on the Canadian Albums Chart, Irish Albums Chart, and Australian Albums Chart, and the New Zealand Albums Chart and reached the top ten of fifteen other countries. The second single from My World 2.0, Somebody to Love”, was released in April 2010, and a remix was released featuring Bieber’s mentor Usher. In June 2010, it reached 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. On June 23, 2010, Bieber went on

72

his first official headlining tour, the tour sold out everywhere and is called My World Tour and it will be concluding in December 2010. In July 2010, it was reported that Bieber was the most searched for celebrity on the Internet. That same month his music video, surpassed Bad Romance” to become the most viewed YouTube video ever. In September 2010, it was reported that Bieber accounted for three percent of all traffic on Twitter, according to an employee of the socialnetworking site. Bieber began recording his second album in July 2010 in New York City. At this point, because of puberty, his voice was deeper than it was when he recorded his first album. In April 2010, the singer discussing his vocals remarked, “It cracks. Like every teenage boy, I’m dealing with it and I have the best vocal coach in the world. [...] Some of the notes I hit on “Baby” I can’t hit anymore. British singer/songwriter Taio Cruz confirmed in July 2010 that he is writing songs for Bieber’s next album. Hip hop producer Dr. Dre produced two songs with Bieber in July 2010 but it is unknown if they were made for the album, which is currently due for a 2011 release. He has also dominated all the award shows throughout the year including the MTV Video Music Awards, The Teen Choice Awards, The MTV Europe Music awards and recently the AMA’s. Justin has also been linked to every famous gorgeous teen star out there including Miley Cyrus, Selena Gomez and Demi Lovato his Love life becoming the story for many media magazines. Justin has also just announced his first UK tour starting in 2011 and has recently hit 6 million followers on Twitter! The year 2010 has definitely had Bieber Fever!

WHO WAS THE MOST POWERFUL CELEBRITY IN YEAR 2010? Forbes released its annual list of the richest and most powerful celebrities for 2010. This list of most powerful celebs, which is based on earnings in the past 12 months, as well as visibility across print, television, radio, online, is clearly dominated by women. Girl Power!! Oprah Winfrey reclaims the #1 spot after being overpowered by actress Angelina Jolie (#18) last year. Eccentric Lady GaGa makes a triumphant entry in the #4 spot, while “Avatar” director James Cameron takes the third spot right behind Beyonce Knowles’ famous booty! Golfer Tiger Woods maintains the #5 ranking after one scandalous year. Here are the top 10; Forbes’ Top 10 Most Powerful Celebs List: Oprah Winfrey: $315 million Beyonce Knowles: $87 million James Cameron: $210 million Lady Gaga: $62 million Tiger Woods: $105 million Britney Spears: $64 million U2: $130 million Sandra Bullock: $56 million Johnny Depp: $75 million Madonna: $58 million Also Taylor Swift made it onto the list for the first time, at #12, thanks to her status as the most-played artist on radio in 2009, multi-platinum album sales, and big endorsement deals with Sony and CoverGirl that netted her $45 million. She’s just ahead of Miley Cyrus (#13), who took in a not-too-shabby $48 million. Beyoncé’s other half, Jay-Z, also made a giant leap this year, jumping from #32 to #15 with a hit album, his investment in the 40/40 club chain and the Broadway show “Fela. Also new on the list this year are the Black Eyed Peas, who debuted at #16 thanks to a $48 million year pumped up by sponsorship deals with Target, Honda, Bacardi and Apple. Singer Pink crashed the party at #27 in her debut year, with $44 million, much of it courtesy of her smash international tour. Other musicians on the list include: Bruce Springsteen (#17), Coldplay (#35), the Jonas Brothers (#40), Diddy (#68), Lil Wayne (#74) and Akon (#80). “Twilight” star Robert Pattinson also makes his first appearance on the list, coming in at #50 with $17 million in earnings, followed by costar Kristen Stewart at #66 with $12 million in earnings. The woman who started it all, “Twilight” author Stephenie Meyer, hits the #59 spot with $40 million in pay thanks to the $1 billion in box office the movies have earned so far and continued strong sales of the books from the series. X Factor judge Simon Cowell earned a spot behind Madonna at #11 with a hefty $80 million payday. Surprising I would of thought Simon would of least made the top 10! One Day we will see CJ Hadlow on there I am sure! Other Celebrities I think had a Good year was the wonderful Michael Buble – His popularity soared this year, Cheryl Cole finally broke free from her cheating husband and her music career continued to boom including a massive record deal in America and a No.1 Single and No.1 album in the UK and of course Katy Perry who blossomed musically and in Love!

BAD

TIGER WOODS: I WAS a Tiger Woods Fan and 2010 definitely has been the down fall of one of the greatest sports stars in the world. Born Eldrick Tont “Tiger” Woods on born December 30, 1975 Tiger is an American professional golfer whose achievements to date rank him among the most successful golfers of all time. Formerly the World No. 1, he is the highest-paid professional athlete in the world, having earned an estimated $90.5 million from winnings and endorsements in 2010. This year he lost his No.1 title in golf to UK golfer Lee Westwood which was just the icing on the cake to a terrible year for Mr Woods. On November 25, 2009, supermarket tabloid The National Enquirer published a story claiming that Woods had an extramarital affair with nightclub manager Rachel Uchitel‎,a claim she denied. The story began to attract media attention when Woods had a car accident a day and a half later as he left his home around 2:30 am in his SUV, a 2009 Cadillac Escalade, Woods hit a hedge, a fire hydrant, and, finally, a tree down the street from his house. Woods was treated for minor facial lacerations, and cited for careless driving. Rumours circulated that it was his wife who caused the accident after finding out about his affairs and attacking him with a golf club. He refused to speak to the police and the accident fanned intense speculation for two days, until Woods released a statement on his website taking blame for the crash and adding that it was a private matter; he also praised his wife, Elin, for getting him out of the car. Woods announced shortly afterward he was quitting Golf. Interest in the story grew, until San Diego cocktail waitress Jaimee Grubbs publicly claimed in the gossip magazine Us Weekly that she had a two-and-a-half-year affair with Woods, producing voice and text messages that she said Woods left her. The voice message stated: “Hey it’s Tiger, I need you to do me a huge favor. Can you please take your name off your phone? My wife went through my phone...You got to do this for me. Huge. Quickly. Bye.” The following week more women came out claiming they had affairs with Tiger taking the total or women into double figures. Who knew if they were going to end. With more women claiming to have had affairs with Tiger he began to lose a lot of his sponsorship and advertising deals which of course was costing him millions of pounds. There were only a couple

of sponsors that chose to stand by this cheating monster. On February 19, 2010 He admitted that he had been unfaithful to his wife. Woods stated he had strayed from Buddhism, his trained faith since childhood, and that he would work to re-embrace his faith in the future. Woods also stated he had been in a therapy program for 45 days, and would be returning there soon. He stated he planned to return to competitive golf in the future, but soon returned to the Masters in March. He did not take questions. On April 29, 2010, the National Enquirer reported that Woods had confessed to his wife that he has had 120 affairs. The couple officially divorced on August 23, 2010 where she took him for millions and millions of Pounds. They share custody of their two children. Tiger Woods’ fall from global sports icon to tabloid fodder was stunning. He saw Accenture, AT&T and Pepsi drop him as a pitchman, but he remains the highest-paid athlete in the world thanks to huge deals with Nike, Electronic Arts and Upper Deck. Nike built a $650 million (sales) golf business from scratch on Woods’ back. His fledgling golf course design business has been hurt by the economic downturn, as all three courses he’s worked on have experienced major delays but despite it all he is still ranked No.5 on Forbes Most Powerful Celebrities. Also there are rumours that a Tiger Woods Sex Tape is due to be released. Something to look forward to Ladies...NOT! I think I can say 2010 was a bad year for Tiger Woods.

WAGS: 2010 has been a bad year for the wives and girlfriends of Sports stars. Tiger Woods was the first of many cheaters for this year. It’s like he started what would be a trend for the year 2010. After Tiger’s 120 Affairs, Chelsea Footballer John Terry was caught cheating on his wife with a team mate’s wife. Toni John’s Wife later forgave him. Second was Peter Crouch. The really tall one that plays for England, also not attractive in any way shape or form yet he has the most incredible looking fiancée. Model Abby Clancy. Peter was caught cheating on Abby with a Spanish prostitute while on friends Stag night in Spain, she also forgave him and weeks later announced they are expecting their first child. Third was Wayne Rooney or ‘Shrek’ as you might know him also known as one of the most amazing English footballers at the moment. He has been caught before cheating

75

on his childhood sweetheart now wife Colleen Rooney with older lady prostitutes and she forgave him so you would think he would of learnt his lesson but nope! Rooney was caught out again this year with yet another prostitute but this time one of the same age. The story was extremely graphic and must of been heartbreaking to Colleen who had just given birth to their first child. Colleen punished him for a couple of weeks with us all wondering if she would take him back but in keeping with the rest of the WAGS she took him back less than a month later. His football however has definitely been affected by these events as he is no longer playing very well. HA! Last but by no means least and most recently Basketball Player Tony Parker was caught red handed cheating with a teammates wife. Tony Parker is/was of course husband to the gorgeous Eva Longoria. Within weeks of finding out he was unfaithful and after almost 7 years together she filed for Divorce! Now that’s the way to do it if you ask me way to go Eva! I don’t understand how these idiotic sports stars can cheat on their wives who are not only gorgeous but the people who stand by them through every way in life including having their children. I hope 2011 puts a stop to this and sports stars start to behave themselves and start setting an example to kids who look up to them.

Lily Allen

I think this is really sad. Lily Allen has had a terrible year. 2010 for Lily Allen started off on a good note with her announcing she was pregnant but later on the year it was announced she suffered a miscarriage. The singer, who announced that she was expecting a baby with boyfriend Sam Cooper in August, was rushed to hospital after experiencing stomach pains. However, efforts to save the 25-year-old’s child failed. Her spokesman confirmed that Lily lost her baby six months into pregnancy. This was her second miscarriage as Lily Allen lost her child with Chemical Brothers star Ed Simons in January 2008. Then to make her year go from bad to worse she returned to hospital with blood poisoning only days after her second miscarriage. A statement read: “Lily Allen is back in hospital, where she is being treated for septicaemia. She is responding well to treatment and her condition continues to improve. Numerous celebrities have offered their love and support including Justin Bieber and Dermot O’Leary and A friend told The Sun: “Lily has spoken to a few

friends and family. She’s in such a terrible place, but everyone is rallying round for her.” I wish Lily Allen all the best and hope 2011 brings happiness and a better year!

Seriously though is REHAB a way of grabbing more MEDIA ATTENTION or are the celebrities for real?

Rehab

Rehab and celebrities why is it that they seem to think it’s the thing to do? The fashion personally I think it’s the media’s fault blowing everything out of proportion and driving the celebrity crazy and thinking they need to go to rehab. Yes Amy Winehouse needs to say Yes instead of No to rehab but is it necessary to make a celebrity go into rehab just for being caught drunk one night? Seriously though is Rehab a way of grabbing more media attention or are the celebrities for real? When you hear rehab you of course think of one person (well more but the more obvious and most recent) The one the only and incredibly messed up Lindsey Lohan. Paris Hilton doesn’t do Rehab she does Jail instead and she tries to make it fashionable am I the only one that thinks it’s wrong to try and make rehab and jail look fashionable?! Lindsey has been in and out of rehab throughout 2010. She probably won’t win an Oscar anytime soon, but Lindsay Lohan could certainly win the top prize for the most stints at rehab in the shortest amount of time. Lindsay Lohan embarks upon her sixth trip to rehab. The actress went to rehab on October 22nd and is set to stay there until January 2nd 2011, but this is by no means her first time getting help. How many times does she need to go to rehab? Other Celebrities who faced rehab this year where Disney Star Demi Lovato. I think this is really sad. Demi is incredible talented and at just 17 years old she checked herself into rehab for

‘physical and emotional’ issues. Kourtney Kardashian’s bad news boyfriend Scott Disick. Also this year Charlie Sheen has been ordered to serve 30 days in a Malibu rehab under a no-jail plea bargain in his domestic violence case. Actor Chris Klein admits he’s an alcoholic. The ‘American Pie’ star has checked into rehab in Utah following a drunken driving arrest - his second in just over five years. According to reports The Tudors’ star Jonathan Rhys Meyers has recently begun treatment for alcohol addiction, earlier in the year Sandra Bullock’s EX husband, Jesse James, checked himself into a treatment facility in the hope of saving his marriage to the Oscar-winning actress it didn’t work. The question is Does Rehab work for Celebrities?

The Sexiest Man Alive of 2010?

Yes Please! Ladies it’s that time of year again to give us an excuse to look over all the hottest guys in the world of Entertainment. People’s Sexiest Man Alive honor is a timeless staple that has produced some major eye candy in the past. You are probably thinking the obvious, George Clooney or Brad Pitt but George Clooney has already been a sexiest man alive so he doesn’t need to be again! George Clooney was Sexiest Man Alive by People in 1997 and then grabbed the honor once again in 2006. Brad Pitt also earned the title twice in 1995 and 2000, and so has Johnny Depp in 2003 and in 2009. Other past winners include Denzel Washinton, Harrison Ford, Richard Gere, Pierce Brosnan, Jude Law, Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Matthew McConaughey and Hugh Jackman. Last year, Robert Pattinson became the Sexiest Man Alive which was very fitting alongside the opening of Twilight Saga: New Moon. Do you think he will take the title again? This year his co-star Taylor Lautner has joined the list of Nominees along with Will Smith, Leonardo di Caprio, Enrique Inglesias and more. There are a total of 100 Nominees. The Winner was announced on November 17th and it was a surprise pick. The Sexiest Man Alive of 2010 is… Ryan Reynolds!!! At 34, Reynolds is a actor whose career took off starring alongside Sandra Bullock in last year’s hit romantic comedy “The Proposal.” He finds himself in select company as a reigning hunk, succeeding 2009 winner Johnny Depp in the annual survey that has also bestowed the “Sexiest Man Alive” designation on Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Richard Gere, Mel Gibson and Matt Damon over 25 years of naming the hottest male celebrities. Ryan Reynolds is married to actress Scarlett Johnansson who was also just named GQ Magazine Babe of the Year! I think you can say they must be the hottest couple of 2010.

Celebrity New Years Resolutions.

Most of us have resolutions to lose weight, eat better, find love, or just be a better person in general. So I thought I would put together with a little help from some friends what I think Celebrities should be doing for their New Years Resolutions this year: Cheryl Cole: Try to have some fun! Don’t take yourself so seriously and learn to sing! Lindsey Lohan: Stay out of Rehab or Stay in it! Mel Gibson: Take an anger management course! Simon Cowell: Put people through on their talent not their looks, personality or story! Kristen Stewart: Attempt to smile. (She does have Taylor Lautner and Rob Pattinson fighting over her what more could a girl want) Michael Buble: Write song about a girl named Ashton . What are your New Years resolutions? Or post us your Celebrity New Years Resolutions on the Tres Chic Facebook page! Wish all a very Happy New Year !!

CRANBERRY

Bold and dramatic lips have come down the catwalk this year ranging in all shapes and sizes. Blondes try rich purple shades and brunettes a rusty red. A top tip for applying a dark lip is to use a brush, starting darker in the center and getting softer at the edges for a more fashionable effect.

RASPBERRY 86

Let the eye’s this season been the focus of the entire facial makeup! Try overlaying various shades of bright high in colour like MAC – hepcat. Layering a smoky eye will create depth and texture, add more emphasis on the highlighter with MAC pigment – pink opal. Skin should have a flawless looking finish and almost colourless soft bare lips.

MULBERRY

Glitter is no longer just for kids, It’s become a high fashion makeup trend, seen on many catwalks and normally around the festive season to add that extra sparkle. Whether going subtle for the Christmas party or living on the wild size for the New Year. Add it to the corner of the eye or line it along the top lid, best go for a fine glitter, its more comfortable to wear and less irritating on the eyes.

*Your regular eyeliner will look glamorous by adding a line of glitter eyeliner on top of it

*Make sure the glitter you use is ultra-fine with no grit so it won’t irritate or get in you eye. *Best use a oil-based eye makeup remover to get rid of any glitter.

Lip Balm Carmex

Its a proven fact, soft lips are more kissable! With winter slowly creeping upon us this is a key product to have! It prevents dry chapped lips and a moisturising barrier helps protects the lips from dry air, wind, sun, cold temperatures and even dust. I have over time become addicted to carmex, you will either love it – or – hate it!!

my top 3 products this month . . .

Glitter liner Its that time of year to go all out with the *Glitz & Sparkles* then the festive season... If you can’t get your hands on gel glitter eyeliner. Take a normal pot of glitter, mix it together with a small amount of Vaseline and apply a thin line with a eyeliner brush.

1. A pair of FAB lashes will help glam up any makeup look. 2. Fridges are big again this winter. Perfect if you fancy a change, giving you that cheeky look. 3. Black pencil in the eye will create a sexier look. 4. When trying to achieve a smokey eye, key point is to...blend, blend, blend. 5. Go for a nude lip gloss when you have heavey makeup on your eyes.

How refreshing it is to see a young girl, at the mere age of 18, make a life-changing decision to leave the bosom of her loving family and secure but fun-loving life here in Marbella, to travel some 6000km to alleviate the suffering of a somewhat forgotten aids stricken community in deepest darkest Africa. Being the writer of this heart-rending article, I found myself recalling how, twenty odd years ago, I travelled into a very unstable war zone to deliver relief to refugees caught up in the suffering caused by the outbreak of war in Yugoslavia. I spent some 7 weeks there, where I witnessed terrible atrocities against mankind and was even shot at, thankfully only on one occasion! My reason for putting myself in the line of fire? I was fed up with my glamorous lifestyle that really did not seem to be giving anything back to the world. I wanted to go out there and feel some sense of ´putting something back into life´ by helping these lost, war-torn souls. I’m very happy to say that during that time our Charity, ´Relief Relief´ - together with a vast number of voluntary personnel on board, achieved that goal and we came back relatively unscathed, having hopefully helped those continuing to survive in a living nightmare. When I heard from a dear friend of mine, Miranda Pothecary, that a tender young 18 year old had in some way repeated my experience of two decades ago, I was obviWords by ANNABEL MILNES-SMITH ously intrigued to hear how she made a difference to the devastating disease-ridden plight faced by those in Africa. Bianca lives with her parents Robert and Penny in a beautiful tranquil house in the heart of Benhavis. “My expectations were nothing close to what I experienced. I knew that I would see a lot of poor and starving people on the They own the highly successful Galeria Germaux, a stone’s throw street but nothing prepared me for the actual reality - such from their home. There were two stops first year there. However since that time, I really didn’t feel I was to go to the bathroom and get food. The first stop, people doing anything constructive here. I would go out to Puerto Banus, crouched down by the side of the road and did their business drink and party; I simply got tired of it. I wanted to go away and - there were no bushes! When I reached the town of Mbeya do something to help people. I discovered the Iwandi Orphanage I met Deborah the founder of the orphanage and she took me through a friend of my brother´s, who was studying at Edinburgh to her home, the orphanage in Iwambi. I was in charge of a University. Her name is Deborah McCracken. She went out there, programme called Hero Books and many more. Bianca Germaux Butler casts aside her worldly goods and glamorous Marbella lifestyle to care for the aids stricken people in Mbeya, Tanzania

CHIC feature that they could, in some way, understand the contrast.” Give me an insight into your day to day life there. “I did a bit of farming and taught Massai children in various villages Swahili, which I learnt whilst living there. I took photos of patients who were very sick from HIV. I now want to continue learning the language. I cycled 40 kilometres a day visiting different villages and teaching the sweet African children. What were your living conditions like? “Sometimes I slept on the floor in a hut with no doors. Most people slept on a rice sack but I had my sleeping bag. We ate rice and beans every day. It was really delicious. Who would know I would find the food so good but it was nutritious after a long day of work? We would get up at 6am and be in bed by 8pm. It was just wonderful when I awoke not even to have to brush my hair or put make-up on. So refreshing” So how different was it compared to your sleeping habits here? “Here I used to get up pretty late, around lunchtime and then go out in the evening until the early hours. Now I get up early and go for really long walks as it reminds me a lot more of Africa. “ You obviously saw many sad and devastating sights. What was the worst? “I was photographing HIV patients for identification for the hospital and one woman didn´t turn up. We walked to her house, followed by children laughing and skipping and there she was, lying outside with a swarm of flies hovering above. I then realised she was dead. My first reaction, which may seem macabre, was to distract the children, ´come on; let´s take a picture´ because they have seen so much in their young lives that this was more or less an everyday occurrence.” So did you see many dead bodies? “Yes quite a few, but not every day.” Bianca answers this question with such candour. It is heartbreaking. I know this may seem a somewhat odd question to ask, but how did you feel? “No, not odd at all. When I saw the first dead body I was shocked. I didn´t believe it. However it didn´t affect me mentally as I had already prepared myself. Everybody was so casual about it because, sadly, death here is so normal.” How are these people educated about how to stop the spread of aids? I take it primarily they are supplied with condoms? “People have many different beliefs including that condoms are bad and some men did not want to use them because they thought that their wives had been unfaithful.” Many of our readers probably do not realise the horrific reality of what is happening in the disease infested Massai villages, so just how many people in the area have contracted aids? “One in three. However many do not know they have it because they want to remain ignorant of the fact.” What care are they given? “There are too many for each and everyone to be treated.

However Deborah, with HIV sufferers, goes from village to village educating people and singing songs about how people can still be beautiful with HIV together with role playing, thus encouraging them to have the HIV test. In 30 minutes she persuaded 20 people to be tested and it only took 35 minutes for them to get the result. Out of those, 7 tested positive.” What is their general life expectancy? “It’s late 20´s, early 30´s because there are so many diseases beside AIDS, such as Malaria, stomach problems, cholera, typhoid. It is the Third World.” Bianca felt so lucky that prior to her departure, she was vaccinated against all these diseases, although the anti-malarial tablets did give her rather funny dreams. She got sick once but for only one day! Whilst you were there, how many people that you knew died? “I cannot really say, as tragically, people living there, die every day.” What were the most beautiful moments and the saddest ones? “It was on my first day arriving in Mbeya. I got out of the car and all Deborah´s adopted children rushed towards me. One of them threw her arms around me and then rushed off with my bag to where I was staying. I knew then that I never wanted to leave. That night the children were smiling and laughing as if they had no cares in the world. So different from home. They have so much to give - are so happy when they know they have so little. The other beautiful time was in this village called Tukuyu where we went to visit ´Angels Falls´. We hiked for hours through the beautiful jungles. These picturesque waterfalls were so peaceful and heavenly, especially with all the children there. It felt surreal with so much water. We were just not used to seeing that in Africa.” “The saddest time was seeing a little girl called Tuma holding a huge bucket above her head filled with water. I could see she was struggling. She then balanced it with one hand on her head, waved at me and smiled. The bucket fell and the water disappeared into the ground. I felt like it was the drop of happiness she felt this second sinking deep into the African dirt, it vanished. She started to cry because she thought she would get into trouble. I mopped up her tears and helped her collect more water from 2 kilometres away. I felt so bad because people here in Spain and numerous other European countries simply do not realise how important water is. They just take it for granted.” How did you feel overall about your experience caring for an AIDS stricken community? Were you scared? “I had in my mind that if I sustained a large cut that I may contract the virus but largely HIV is caused by blood transfusions. I wasn’t scared. People who have AIDS should not be looked upon as different people or indeed pariahs of the community. I cared a lot for them. It made me feel humble.

“Sometimes I slept on the floor in a hut with no doors. Most people slept on a rice sack but I had my sleeping bag. We ate rice and beans every day.”

They were just so grateful. They made me love like I never have loved before” Indeed Bianca was the youngest volunteer they ever had. “Yes, Deborah was concerned that because of my age, I wouldn’t be able to face the harsh realities in Mbeya. However having worked there, she gave me the great compliment of saying ´I was a great example of what volunteers should be like.´ “I enjoyed the bad times as well as the good ones. It was the best experience I could ever have had. When I left to travel back home to Spain, I had nothing left in my suitcase except my journal. The rest I gave away. I gave my best friend Joseph a Maasai boy of 23 years old a pair of socks. He was over the moon. They’re happy with anything and everything. I won’t forget that boy and his wonderful story of being put in jail because he was at the wrong place at the wrong time and he came out with a smile on his face, Deborah had saved him. Are you planning on returning there? “Yes as soon as I can. Once my studies are over, hopefully this summer. I want to go for at least a year there. One day I feel like I will live there, I feel like I belong there. It’s not only the beauty captured in my heart by the views and the culture; it was the people and their smiles. Forever it will remain in my heart. I love Africa. I love all of them out there and I’m prepared to take anyone with me there and share the beauty in their world. Well, I for one, being the interviewer, have so much admiration for this young, beautiful and extremely courageous girl. Bianca, there are not too many people who, at such a tender young age, have made an enormous difference in a relatively

short time, to such a vast community which is suffering the ravages of living in the third world. I personally feel that in a few years to come, there will be a highly coveted humanitarian award adorning the wall at the Galleria Germaux in the heart of Benhavis. On a final note, the charity that Deborah tirelessly runs is The Olive Branch For Children. They do need volunteers. So for all those readers living their beautiful lives on the Costa del Sol who would like to give something back to humanity, log onto www.theolivebranchforchildren.org. If you are unable to volunteer (all expenses have to be paid by the individual personally), donations would be gratefully received.
