A space where we indulge in our deepest vices through the optimization of daily routines. The anti-society.
What is a world of excess with a world of efficiency?

What is the permanent address of the future server city?

To be, or not to be. Referential identity.
The original relational identity. In the past, one’s identity was contigent on the physical interactions they produced with others. When the body was absent, so was the ability to interact. Memory took over.
To be, or not to be. Referential identity.
The current relational identity. Now exists the infrastructure for construction of identity without the physical body. The ability to reference the digital self of others, allows for constant existance of presence. Memory is replaced with cache.
To be, or not to be. Referential identity.
The paradox of the digital echo. Although the physical self is the original purveyor of identity, the digital self actually proves to be a more consistent reference point for the exposure and contact point of the person to themselves, and to others. Our digital selves have replaced the physical as identity.
To be, or not to be. Referential identity.
To be, or not to be. Referential identity.
Algorithmunication. Our relationships now live and are archived amongst lines of code and the crevaces of our keyboards. This allows a new relationship to idendity; the one where the digital selves speak to each other independently of the physical being present. Silent communication.
There has been a shift. No longer are relationships exclusive to their relationship to the body, the person exists beyond the confines of the biological, and the digital self substitutes it in its absense. The cloud is the new permanent address.
But then, what is the role of architecture in a digitally driven world?

Era of biological storage Our bodies as generators.
Brain as storage
Machine as storage
DNA as storage
Infinite, mobile, renewable storage. With our genome as the source of encoding data, we become the servers, the information keepers. Our bodies becomes the nodes of networks.
If the body is server, source of information, then architecture’s purpose is to protect. Architecture of immobility.
The circuit city. Our bodies connected to the city.
Because digital travel is important in the circuit city, the main servers act as neighborhood nodes within the city.
The circuit city. Our bodies connected to the city.
Homes are clustered around the server to maximize connectivity and usage for work and pleasure.
The circuit city. Our bodies connected to the city.
Superhighways connect the clusters for seldom, emergency travel. The body doesn’t move, only the mind does.
Cities as clustered networks
The neighborhood.
Superhighways connect the clusters for seldom, emergency travel. The body doesn’t move, only the mind does.
The neighborhood.
The server is the central node of the neighborhood. Each server is part of a physical network, and it grows with its cluster of users.
The neighborhood.
Each user acts like a smaller information node that feeds itself and off of the server. The entire population is plugged into the physical network, but can exist in different digital ones.
Neighborhoods as connective nodes
The building.
The DNA of every user becomes the world’s storage. For this reason, the body must be kept protected, while the mind can float around via VR in the digital.
The building.
How do you keep the constant stream of information from the body to the city? The building will not only protect the body, but will keep it perpetually connected.
Body as server
Welcome to the algorithmic city. The recipe for a physical dystopia, and digital indulgence.
